Hello. I have been debating with friends if there are hi-sec systems, low-sec systems, and 0.0, or if it is OK to split the systems just to hi-sec and low-sec. So please, answer me this yes/no question: Do you think that 0.0 should have it's own cattegory, instead of merging it with 0.1-0.4 into "Lowsec" systems ?
Thank you for your votes :)

There are too many differences between 0.0 space and 0.1 - 0.4 space to lump them together.

If anything, it's divided into deepspace (o.o) and empire (hisec and losec), but mostly ppl use the three places approach: hisec, losec and deepspace

Well the distinction between high sec, low sec and 0.0 is very important. And it already has "its own category" imo. At least if you actually ever leave high sec.
Here a quick list for you: High-sec = pretty "safe" besides wardecs and gankers Low-sec = still pretty safe if you know what you are doing. No bubbles here so for 0.0 dwellers this usually already feels safe. 0.0 = lawless ranging from safer then empire (because you recognize hostiles much easier then in front of Jita 4-4 CNA) to pretty deadly due to bubbles and NBSI. |

0.0 is seperate from lowsec. Different combat mechanics.
You have concord and sec status loss in highsec (also no bubbles). You have sentry agression and sec status loss in low sec (also no bubbles). You have free for all pvp and bubbles in 0.0 (no sec status loss).

There are distinct sets of rules for hi, low, and zero sec space:
hi-sec: owned by NPC empire, cant attack unprovoked or get pwned by CONCORD. no bubbles or cap ships.
low-sec: owned by NPC empire, can attack uprovoked but still get seclevel penalty. no bubbles or cap ships.
zero-sec: everything is allowed, also possible for alliances to acquire system sovereignty.
~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |
Empire: 0.1 to 1.0 (what's with the decimal points anyway, why not just 1 to 10?) High Sec: 0.5 to 1.0 Low Sec: 0.1 to 0.4 Zero: 0.0
That's what I've always called those things. I guess a lot of people consider "Empire" and "High Sec" to be the same thing although I prefer to think of all positive sec systems as Empire, simply because there are both high and low sec systems where the listed sovereignty is one of the four main factions.
A fantastic a alliance mate did the other day.... invite them to a gang. he did it to 1 yesterday who accepted. he then warped his crow in on him uncloaking him so guy logged while scrammed and he popped the guy. funny eh
Oh and yes. There is Empire. High-sec and Low-sec. then theres 0.0 3 different areas. if i grouped any together it would be high-sec and low-sec. all of its Npc Sov etc, most of 0.0 is player owned.
The latter not in 0.0 with npc sovereignty.
So I devide EVE in empire space and 0.0, with empire further divided in high sec and low sec. And 0.0 with the subcategories 'conquerable space' and 'npc sovereignty'
Edited by: hydraSlav on 02/10/2007 20:20:19 0.0 is nothing like low-sec (0.1-0.4).
It is absolutely different.
I usually unify low-sec and high-sec under a generic "empire" term (all low-sec belongs to one of the empire factions), but i am yet to meet anyone that would include 0.0 in "low-sec" definition.
It's either: 0.0 and Empire or 0.0, low-sec and high-sec
Low sec is much more dangerous than 0.0
0.0 means its got no security and isnt under empire control, so saying (word)+sec anything about 0.0 is a contradiction itself.
parts of zero sec are safer... bubble camps and can be much worse. and when an alliance patrol wants you out of their territory, they can be more persistent and organized than the average lowsec pirate.
So true, but when you're newer it can be 'Mostly safe, except when you panic and do the wrong thing and promptly and efficiently explode.' |
Hell no. Unless some dumbass is camping a gate with a Nyx (which only happens at like 2-3 gates in all of Eve) low-sec is almost as safe as high-sec.
