Edited by: Skraeling Shortbus on 05/10/2007 05:20:35 Anyone have any tips for nailing these guys, do I just need to get lucky and nab em in a belt with them targetted by rats so they cant cloak instead of having to warp off?
Any ships that would be better suited to this (interceptor / cruiser).
Having a bugger of a time trying to catch em.
I need to get faster at scanning :(

From my experiences with them, you need luck. Most of them will fit 2 warp core stabs, in addition to logging at the first sign of trouble (ie you entering local).
I've had luck with a Myrmidon fitted with 2x 7.5km warp scramblers. Since they all fit WCS, they have to warp at the belts at 0 since their targeting ranges are crap, meaning your 7.5km scrams are plenty to lock them down. And of course they can't tank once you catch them, EM drones (or whatever, they really can't tank) will rip them apart. This only works if the gate you come in from is within scan range and you're good with the scanner though, otherwise they'll be gone.
Now, the smart ones just warp or log as soon as local goes up, only thing to do here is see which belt they log in, warp there, log yourself, and get lucky and log back on while they're finishing that same belt. Basically, it can't be done until CCP does something about logging to avoid PvP or cloaks.

Both of the ones i hunt regularly fit 0 stabs neither log either the wrinkle is that the systems they rat in are hard to scan quickly with the ship scanner giving them time to cloak in belt or warp.
To bad for this latest guy he thought warping to his safe but not cloaking would be enough....

The fact that he can avoid you is a great part of eve. If a pilot wants to avoid pvp with you then the mechanics should be there for him to do so and in this case they are. A raven ratting at a belt with a ratting fitted ship will more than likely avoid pvp for this reason. This isnt farming.

Just get lucky, fit more than one scram and even if they escape just keep the system they are in occupied most of the time either by you or some fellow friends, this should derail their morale and they may leave.
Once they are scrambled it's easy i even once killed a ratting raven with a BC ofc i got lucky and caught him in first belt i searched for him at zero warp in point. -------------------------------------------------- Holiness is in right action, and courage on behalf of those who cannot defend themselves. |

Probably all you can really do is cloak in the top belt and wait for him to get tired of hiding. Then jump him when he starts ratting again.
I've been lucky so far. The couple of times I've found ratting farmers, I guess they weren't paying attn to local. Had enough time to scan down their belt and warp in.

Edited by: VicturusTeSaluto on 05/10/2007 19:35:59 If they are logging off I would try to to guess where they logged and put down a bubble. Then have someone waiting for them. You need to be pretty lucky to kill one of these bastards. If they simply ss and cloak when you enter local it is damned hard to kill one.
CCP really needs to make it so non cov-ops cloaks can be probed out.

Try a dual-scram fitted cov ops shortly followed by a real combat ship (probably with a remote rep to keep your cov ops alive).
Too bad you can't fit a cov ops cloak on a stealth bomber-the farmer-slaughtering abilities of these ships would be epic. ------------------------------ One more soldier off to war... And one Velator in my hangars. |

I vote this "NEWB" to the idiot wagon, this game is not only a PvP game so if you wish to avoid it, it's your call.
How in the hell do you know first off, he is Chinesse second he is macro ratting?
BTW farming is something 95% of the player base do, some rat, mission, camp, roam for the only purpose to "farm" the loot.

I agree. It seems when ever a non-carbear comes on these forums to whine everyone has "macro" or "farmer" in thier adjectives, as if it somehow justifys ruthless behaviour(Your allowed to gank/kill anyone, you don't need an excuse).
Just because people play the game in a way different from you (eg not buying ETC for isk) doesn't mean that they are:
a) from asia
or
b) a macro farmer

Sometimes it's obvious though. When you go to 0.0, see a Raven briefly that immediately warps off and cloaks when you enter the system, who's about a year old, in the starting school, with a name like "Xiao15663" then it's quite a convincing sign.
I shared a system with a Farmer once when I was trying to get my Sec Status back up, it took him about 2 days until he decided to uncloak and start NPCing with me in system, but he did. And started doing it 23/7. Angry that my spawns were being taken, I tried to bump him out of alignment whilst he was being shot up but failed to kill him and he just returned to his Safespot, but forgot to cloak. (he had always cloaked previously) His SS was inbetween 2 planets so I just made BMs between them until I got on the same Grid as him. I had a point this time too, so was ready for the kill - Got within range, scrambled him and... he warped angry at this waste of time, I proceeded to kill all the Giant Secure Containers he had gathered there, which probably contained Ammo seeing as I never saw him looting. He left the system and I never saw him again. ---

I killed like 20-25 ravens already in 1-2 months The trick is - you have to live there as well, they become used to you, they become more relaxed and from time to time they do mistakes. Try to ruin their boosted system, kill all NPC self so they'll agro you. If they dont - leave system and let them boost it again, come there and ruin it again. It made "my" chineese to attack me :)
And sometimes, if you live with them for a long time, weird things can happen. Check, for example, my story :) http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=601388
Anyway, you cant do your hunting fast. Hunting farmers takes time :)

Its great to hear someone on these forums telling us that they can do it rather than hearing the whiners say that they cant. We dont want whiners turning eve to eve on easy mode.

I would say that nerfing cloaks would be impossible as cloaking has been nerfed as far as it can realistically can be. However the art of "nerfing" is ccps speciality.

if your so concerned about these so caled isk farmers then fine make it hard for them to rat.
I have two in the system i am using to rep my sec status. Richard 01 and Johnson 01, while they have both been in "known" isk farming corps I just make the trouble harder for him/them.
I found 4 giant secure cans at a planet 2 of each belonging to the pilots. now they are canless thanks to 2 hours and me being bored ****less with reppng my sec status.
And yes we all farm to a degree. be it farming ships at a gate ( gate camp ) or going from belt to belt increasing ones sec status....
shall i give you 12,357,322 matches and 2 tonnes of pva glue now or later? ( so you can build your bridge and get over it ) -
