Hello everyone!
I opened a petition to find the best place to put this topic and I was told to post it here.
Anywho!
I have made a new website for EVE videos it's called EVE-Tube. You can visit by going here: http://www.eve-tube.com
To celebrate the grand opening of the new site, we have decided to give away 1 billion ISK in a free to enter video contest. To find out more about the contest just click on the big banner on the front of the page.
If you don't want to enter in the contest that is fine too! You can upload any EVE related video you want for private or public viewing.
Note: Because EVE has such a vast array of age groups including minors we have to physically approve each video to ensure the content is suitable for all audiences. It usually doesn't take long as we have a few people reviewing the videos.
We hope you like this free service and good luck to all of those who enter the contest.

Damn, nice site. Unfortunately I don't have any 1337 video skillz, but I hope that it takes off. You should have people promote it at fanfest.
P.S. An idea - create an option to automatically upload and convert any specified video from eve-files. That will help.

Many people enjoy watching the full 300mb quality of movies, some even hit the 500mb mark.
How about upping the upload limit to 400m and adding a DDL link for the original video? Then we're talking!!

That wouldnt really work from a marketing standpoint, which he is intitled to have an interest due to the work he has put into setting it up.
A downloadable video option would remove a great deal of hits from the site therefore lowering its advertising appeal.

My idea was that people would watch the previews on eve-tube then download the full vid if they wanted, or continued to watch the lofi version on evetube. Because, basically, if there was a demand for low quality eve videos we would see them on the eve-video board, but there's not.

Don't know about that m8, tbh the reason most people watch things like youtube is they don't want to go thru any trouble with downloading videos. Stuff like video codecs, video players (of many names) and various file extensions can be daunting to the newb computer literate

One question tough, would it be possible to use a Divx codec much like stage 6? Eve vids always look so much better in HQ and the Stage6 model is very good viewing time with next to no buffering.

I just don't see why people would rather use this service than eve-files other than to preview videos that they will download in full-res later.
Your point is, don't put a download link because you won't make any profit. Except that many video sharing sites have ddl links anyway.

Thank-you everyone for the kind words, that means alot too me as the site was a learning experience and caused a lot of headaches, and I am sure a few more along the way. The site is currently in beta mode. We wanted to see what worked, what didn't work, what the community wanted changed, i.e. the upload limit, download link and we appreciate all the feedback we have gotten so far. There have all ready been some really cool videos uploaded and that is awesome! Thanks again and I have written down every suggestion on my lil piece of paper here next to my computer so I can go over it and think about how to best implement the changes if need be.

OP: One advantage of eve-tube.com is that you can count on all the videos there to be eve-related. This opens up a few cool posibilities regarding how you organize your information and lets you add a bunch of data to your database regarding the videos:
-Ship types involved
-Corporations involved
-Alliances involved
-Type of combat (PvE, solo PvP, small gang PvP, fleet PvP, POS warfare, etcetera)
-Region filmed
And a bunch of other cool things. EVE files currently doesn't have anything like this and it could be a big reason people upload and watch videos on EVE-Tube instead of there.

Thanks everyone, we ran into a bump in the road as almost every site does when going live but we are working on it to get the problem fixed. For some reason it is not liking anything above 70-88mb we are working on getting it to function properly in the 200-450mb range. I noticed someone asked about extensions that are supported as of right now these are supported: (3gp)|(mp4)|(mov)|(asf)|(avi)|(flv)|(wmv)|(mpg)|(mpeg)|(mpeg4)|(xvid)|(divx)|(3gpp
It sounds like a lot of you have that other extension .WKV we made this site for the community so we will work hard to get that extension supported.

Wow, what a great idea. Nice job!
A couple comments: I found myself noticing that your video window is slightly smaller than youtube's. Not by much, but enough for me to notice and to sometimes toggle the fullscreen.
Also, I'm not exactly sure about what codecs are used and stuff, but the pixelation was pretty obvious. Fullscreen is pretty bad too... How does youtube manage much better quality? Could you allow to undock and resize instead of fullscreen?

.mkv is a container format. Video codec is usually h264 or xvid/divx. It also supports UTF-8 subtitle streams.
mkvtoolnix will probably be useful.

One minor suggestion:
Given that most of your videos will have a black background, I think you should add a white outline to your "play" button in the center of each video. Currently, it can be a bit hard to distinguish from the video depending on the background.

I have gotten an e-mail or two insinuating that I am in competition with EVE-Files.com, this is not the case. Before the Tube went live, I had talks with Chribba about the possibility of some sort of connection between our sites, the conversation has stalled but I am still open to doing something jointly between the two websites.
I am not here to make money, not here to make buckets of ISK (in fact I am giving 1 billion of it away,) I just wanted to make a site that the community would appreciate and enjoy. Not to compete against anyone or any other website. I am trying to make the site as professional as possible but I am not a company nor do I have expert coders with me I am just a individual EVE player trying to give back to a community that makes this game a pleasure to play.

Two more suggestions, would make it easier for me and many others in porting our videos to eve-tube:
1) Allow remote download/upload (How ever you see it) from another HTTP mirror, i have 10-15gb of videos on my server and i dont wanna hafta upload em all at 60kb/s :x (Making my connection unusable in the process)
2)Possibly look into the option of having an FTP upload feature, helps especially with people on slower connections as it allowing them to resume uploading. So like ever account has an upload and view only ftp account releated to it, and the server auto purges complete files once thier converted to flv format and then purge the ftp off uncomplete files once every 2 weeks or so.

You should look into getting some Google Ads for funding - It should let you get some better servers and offset your operating costs. We can't expect you to keep this website up for us for free, especially since it looks like all the extra traffic WTFPWND it.

Think you could give your site the black and grey motif of the Eve-O forums? Would make a better contrast to the mostly dark videos over the current blinding white..
