I am 29 years old, white, male, with disposable income, no personal relationships, and a job in the technology field.
What are the odds I would end up playing EVE?
Frank is 37 years old, white, male, with a disposable income, a potentially fictional "picture of wife", and a job fixing elevators.
Today I met Frank, we talked about "free time", and I mentioned I play EVE, and his next question was:
"High-Sec or Null-Sec?"
STOP!!!... WAIT... MY BRAIN HAS EXPLODED.
One of the following errors has occurred:
- I met a person in real life who plays EVE.
- I met a person in real life who pretends to play EVE.
- I met a person in real life who plays EVE, and pretends to fix elevators.
- I met a person in real life who pretends to play EVE, and pretends to fix elevators.
- I did not meet a person in real life, instead I suffered a temporary stroke and imagined the conversation.
- I did not meet a person in real life, instead I suffered a longer term stroke and imagined the conversation, this post.
- I did not meet a person in real life, instead in coma, imagined the conversation, this post, and my entire life.
- I am a "brain in a vat".
The way I see it any of the options are equally plausible. |

This explains a lot about you and confirms some of my previous suspicions.

No. Real people do not play EVE Online. It is only populated by machines. Skynet will once again prevail! Now back to my previous duties.

I have yet to meet someone IRL that plays EVE Online. I have sucked in a few IRL friends, though. |

Did he pod you, create a wifi hotspot with his phone, and then redirected all the wifi free loaders to a web page describing what you were wearing when he podded you?
Also, did you respond with 'lo-sec'?

Yeah, people's eyes seem to glaze over when yuo start talking about the game, what you've been doing, secstatus, rats, et al. It's kinda funny actually. If you bring down a giant, you're a hero. If you kill something weak-even if it has to die-then you will endure contempt. |

As a matter of fact, I never talked about Eve IRL - I once found out that some guy i flew with for quite some time lived ~30 km from where i live - I went totally paranoid for weeks...
Concerning your options, I think you must be something vat-related - not quite sure if there's a brain in it. morons- sting like a butterfly and-ápost like a bee. |

In over 8 years, I have only met 2 people in the 'real' world who even knew what EVE was. . . and neither of them played it lol.
By real world I mean just randomly meeting strangers on the street, in stores shopping, etc. And not co-workers already working inside a gaming company which would be cheating.

I've met plenty of people who know what EVE is. Its the same story "I really want to try that but.." Insert excuse here, they all condense down to the reasons people avoid MMO's in general. They are seen as addictive and life sucking. They are. |

I don't make it to Greenland very often, but when I do I ask everyone I meet, "Do you play EVE?" Invariably their response is, "Do I play what?" Then, they start looking around for a cop.
Elect me to the CSM. I'm totally untrustworthy, only worry about myself and vaguely have a notion what you're dealing with as a player. Anyone with any sense has already left town. |

Whenever I hear someone talking about Eve, which is rare, I get the heck away, because that person is probably a fricken weirdo.
Outside of that, one person I knew who played Eve for years had to biomass his characters in front of his therapist due to his fianc+¬ leaving him. Another's person I had a conversation about MMOs with mentioned being trolled constantly playing the trial of some space game. I acted like I didn't know what he was talking about, started talking about the weather. |

I am not real.
I met people who play eve. When I hear them talking about it, I do not introduce myself. They are stupid and putting a lot of effort into meaningless things. I don't want them to know me in eve because they just might know me in real life... and I don't want beggars around. Vermin that they are...

I met a guy about two weeks ago who had played Eve (though I don't know when). He was talking about being addicted to Skyrim, and I mentioned I played a game called Eve Online.
He said he'd tried it for about two weeks but it was: ' just grind, grind, grind, and then, when he tried to sell his stuff the designers had made it so the autopilot runs new players through dangerous areas and gets them killed by other players." I nodded noncommittally and mentioned "Eve can be a pretty harsh game."
He then asked me what I do in Eve.
"I'm a pirate", I replied.
* Technically, I'm not really a pirate, I just enjoy frigate combat in lowsec. But it was simply too good an opportunity to miss. |
