Hello all,
This is a quick step by step tutorial to do what other 'entrepreneurs' are doing for massive profit. The idea is simply to grind up standings to access R&D agents for multiple alts.
But how? Well the ''secret'' that has been tried, tested and is soon to be used in quite a few endeavors for profit, is simple, take an efficient, speedy Level 3 (preferrably for rapid mission completion) Mission Running character (level 4 is preferred, gains are larger).
Gang your mission runner with 4 other alts (yours or friends), start chaining those missions, and use the share rewards option. This shares ISK, LP and most importantly, standing gains.
Now even though storylines can -not- be shared, and it will effectively take you the same number of missions required to grind up 5 characters (standings are split to 1/5 in a full gang of 5). In this time frame, you have brought 4 other characters (not counting your mission runner) up to access level.
That sounds like a lot of work
It is, there is a bright shiny side though, if your mission runner has high enough faction and corporate standing, creates a corp, and all the R&D alts are brought under the same roof, needless to say, you'll have the standings in very little time :)
I apologize if some parts aren't 100% clear, writing manuals and walk throughs are not my forte. I have tested and put this to use myself. Either way you go, either Amarr/Caldari or Minmatar/Gallente, it is very possible to get access to 5x R&D Mechanical Engineering and other fields of agents in a relatively short amount of time.
Why am I doing this? Because I personally hate to see people gloat about an 'uber' secret method for their IPOs and fat wallets, and as a mission runner, I stand to benefit directly from the windfall if more people start to put this method into effect, because it means datacores will be cheaper, which brings the prices of invented goods down.
Just think, each account, 3 characters, even at 10million a day, with 3 characters, that's 900million a month, and even after a theoretical high of 250million for a 30day GTC, you're still making out like a bandit with 650million.
Yes it's a lot of work, but wouldn't you want a monthly allowance?

Just a note, FACTION standing gains from storylines can not be shared. Corp standing gains from storylines however CAN be gained.
So all you need to do is to find a L3/L4 combat agent in the target corp, in the same system with an EVENT (storyline) agent belonging to your target corp (or at least, no other closer storyline agents). That way, you don't only gain standings from the regular missions, but you also gain corp standings from the storyline.
As for Mechanical Engineering agents in Caldari space, you get 5 more or less decent ones in Kaalakiota Corporation. And what do you know, there's a half-kill, half-delivery agent from Kaalakiota that has a Kaalakiota storyline (event) agent in the same system : HEORAH. Grinding standings for MechEng agents has never been easier. _

It's not really easy way. Doing missions in that speed is very very boring. Also dragging up 4 chars at a time is 4 times slower than dragging up one char at a time. Rewards are shared equally. You cant put them all in gang anyway usually as only one character per account can be logged in at a time.
Other than that it's they way all those 'uber' guys do it. Approx 1 week of missionwhoring per alt like there is no tomorrow and you are there. Depends a bit on your playing time per day. You can get it slightly faster, by grinding that combat agent sharing rewards until your alt has enough personal standings to use that agent (personal rises relatively fast), then accept missions with your alt, do them with your missionrunner, and turn them in personally with al, not for gang.
Lev 4 vs. lev 3 - Lev 3 is faster for 'regular' players. Doing it lev 4 way to outrun lev 3 standings gains (no looting in either case) takes very good equipment and skills. We are talking here about speeds of 2 to 3 level 4 missions per hour vs 4 to 12 lev 3 missions in hour. Getting that 2 to 3 lev 4's per hour is hard.

Look at the screenshot linked P.S. It was back when combat mission were bugged standings-wise (see cargo delivery, inf.outp. gains), so you could have had even more corp gains normally (like, right now). And I did that extremely leisurely, almost idle. _

The main obstacle to getting datacores isn't so much the standings gain...that can be done in a few weeks easy as has been said here.
The hard thing that most people try to avoid are the skills. It just takes too long for a non-research dedicated char to get lab op 5, research 5, and the science + research proj. management skill up.

One month and a bit for a decent starter skills, learnings done char to L4 in science and RPM. Another month for L5 science and some good level of Negotiations. Another month for RPM5. _

2-3 months without training my main is a bit hard to stomach. Maybe I'll get it done when I get to 20mil sp on this char. Then again, I'll probably have something else I really want to train for by then.

You can do 3 alts with acsess to 5 agents with level 5 in mech engineering in 6 months with few days to spare. As Akita pointed out, +3 implants and good starting char. Trick is to pick your learning skills reasonably.
Exact order of learnings is relatively easy to figure out using EVEmon. You will end up with approx 70 day plan before +3 set and plugging in +3 right at the start cuts off 10d from it. You can save day or 2 more actually from that 70d figure, as it is actually with ability to drive hauler also so that that alt could haul his own datacores.

Forgive me for being 'noob' in this aspect of Eve, but always hearing about people make tons of Isk from datacores and R&D Agents, I would like too know.
How in fact do they work?
Alls I know (and heard) is you grind standing to 'use' them and need the Research Project Management Skill
x;
Is anyone willing to shed anymore light on this?

I'd agree that R&D is better with alts as it doesn't prevent your main from training skills for a few months.. however, grinding standings for an alt is almost a full time job. So if you have responsibilities in rl, or in-game via corp/alliances it can be really tough to devote that much time for the grind.
Another thing with alts, dont waste time training combat so you can handle the combat missions. Just get armarr frig 3, grab industrial skill and use the awesome t1 armarr indy with 5 lows, equip it with inertial stabs II. Then run courier missions like crazy. Do some research to get storyline agents in the R&D corp you desire so you gain massive standing boosts via storylines.
You can run 3 accounts at once like this doing courier missions pretty quickly. |

You don't have to do R&D missions to get the storyline agents in R&D corp. Storylines are assigned to the closest storyline agent so you can run missions for other corps and still get the massive boosts from the storyline agent. You just have to be sure the desired storyline agent is the closest.
Obviously it does help that the agent you work for is also in the R&D corp but depends on the agent really. Pure courier missions are almost worthless but if you get a mix of lv3 combat missions and have a command ship to blast through them, you will be on a winner.

This is for those who wish to get their several alts access to high lvl RD agents. It's too slow to use 1 main who has uber skills for blasting through missions, in gang and sharing the standing gains with the alts. Rather, get the alts themselves to run courier missions. You can easily run 3 of them at once, and if you do research, the storyline will boost standing in the desired RD corp really fast. The idea is to blaze through easy and quick couriers in alts with no skills in combat for the storyline bonus.
In fact if you got a main that can blaze through combat missions then its even quicker. While you run the combat mission with your main, get the alts to do couriers. |

Ok its my understanding that the character running the level 4 missions must run these missions for the R&D corporation right?
So before doing any gang grinding you must get a Level 4 R&D agent the standard way first?

An slight but effective variation of doing gang missions is not to have the one high skilled uber gang runner accepting missions and sharing, rather each of the 5 members accepts a mission (lvl 1 to begin with) and then the skilled guy runs the 5 missions concurrently, best with low lvl combat, as couriers require the mission owner in the destination station if its a delivery.
This way all 5 get a storyline which can be shared or not, makes little difference.
Undocking a BC with small guns and light drones then blitzing 5 lvl2 combat missions back to back, will take no time at all. 30 minutes at most if in system. Much faster than docking between each mission.

Kaalakiota has a courier mission hub with about 8-9 courier agents in the same system. One thing about Kaalakiota is that there best lvl3 agents give more RP then their best lvl4 due to the quality gap.

Edited by: Toria Nynys on 13/10/2007 20:39:02 Other things to remember: COSMOS missions provide a monstrous boost to standings. And L3 in social/connections skills can get you to the L2 COSMOS agents instantly pretty much instantly.
I prefer to grind L2 combat missions for standings. Just get your alt pulling 5-6 missions at a time at a location that results in the R&D corp's storyline agent giving you the storyline. Tavel time is the gating factor in grinding. Fly out in your squadron of battleship and drake alts, wipe out 20+ missions an hour and you'll have your R&D faction standing in 20-30 hours per alt.
Also, if your 'main' pulls the L4s, you can boot all alts but the one getting the standing to get them to mission pulling status faster.

they only shared LP and ISK

There's one approach that a character with a high faction standing can do.
Whenever I need to raise my standing quickly with a corporation, for R&D or whatnot, I find an L4 courier mission agent near a storyline agent of the target corporation. Usually within a night or two of flying with my interceptor or industrial I have enough standing to stop grinding.

Yes storylines share no standing gains, not faction or corp. Just select the best agent to work with don't worry about the storyline agent at all (do them of course but only your main will get the benefits).

Hi Leeho/ All
Where is this mission hub, I am looking to grind out standings with Kaalakioka, but would love to know where to start, so that storyline missions come fast and furious to me, with same corp (as kaalakioka)
Carthum was pretty fun, as the L3 agent I used has a Carthum storyline close by, which helped tremendously
So 2 questiosn here I guess
1- Where is best place to run kaalakioka missions from (courier), this mission hub mentionned here 2- Any details on where Kaalakioka storyline agents being close by, or where they are would be very nice 3- Is there a way to find out, by Corp, where storyline mission agents are ? This place does not show it :( http://www.eve-agents.com/

I am a little confused by this right now.
So, to get the storyline missions the fastest. I should get in a gang with 4 others. We all go run courier missions, and share the rewards. Sharing the rewards like this gives a standing gain and a +1 count closer to the storyline mission. So once the 5 of us have done 1 mission each we are all +5 closer to the storyline agent. We all go run another mission each, and now we are all +10 closer to the storyline agent, and we keep running missions like this until we get the storyline which will increase our faction standings.
I finally get my storyline mission, I go run it and I get a faction bonus for myself only. Then I can go back to running regular courier missions till I have accumulated enough points to get back into the storyline.
- Is this how this works? - Will this get me from lvl 1 agents up to lvl 4 agents quickly? - Can you stack storyline agents missions? Or do you have to do them as you get them? - How much faster do you get to the lvl 4 agents if you run it for the R&D Corp? (example: Carthum, Kaalakiota, Lai Dai, Boundless, Duvolle, or Core Comp)
Or do you have to get 1 main character to run all 5 courier missions?

If you are starting out with near-zero standings with Caldari state and Kaalakiota Corp, then OHIDE in Amarr space is the place to start for your Kaalakiota standings. There are many level 1 (like 6) and level 2 (like 2) courier agents in Ohide as well as a couple level 1 courier agents out near Lisudeh in the same constellation, where you frequently travel through on your delivery runs. Lisudeh also has a level 3 kill agent that can be utilized for the Kaala storyline agent in Ohide.
If you start with some standings for level 2 and level 3 agents (like if you have connections skill trained up), then ZIONA in Amarr space is the place to go. Ziona has about 6 level 2 courier agents and 4 level 3 courier agents for Kaala with the Kaala storyline agent in nearby Sukirah. Sukirah also has a lvl 4 qual -18 or so kill agent for Kaala to add spice to the grind.
Graduating to Ziona after Ohide is the plan for those starting from scratch.
One thing I haven't seen mentioned here is that the higher level R&D agents require corp standing as well as personal standing to use. Thus, your corp must have sufficient standing with Kaalakiota to use their good lvl 3 and 4 agents. I put all my chars with kaalakiota standing in my corp to get the average standing to rise to the needed level. I thought that this would be harder to do than it ended up to be: my corp has appx 1.37 standing with Caldari state and 1.70 with Kaalakiota, which is enough effective standing to use any of the ME agents for Kaalakiota. If anyone is looking for a starter industrial corp with a big future, as you get your Kaalakiota standings up, contact me. My corp can provide that last puzzle piece for standings if you don't want to do it on your own.
At 2m per datacore, I have calculated that 1 acct x 3 chars can bring in appx 1.2bil per month using the top 5 Kaalakiota agents. Pretty nice for passive income on top of all other income-making activities...

That's strange... what kind of storyline did you have, courier or combat ? I'm pretty sure combat storyline corp standing gain WAS split, just faction wasn't.
I could of course be remembering it wrong, or it could have been an older bug/feature/whatever.

Errrmh... you got that backwards. The alts must have a personal alt--to--NPC-Corp standing above a certain level IF they have a higher personal alt--to--NPC-faction standing and want to access the R&D agent that way. Your Player-Corp--to--NPC standings don't matter even one little bit. _

The important thing to consider is that for now it is a good business to have R&D agents. As more and more people go for it the demand won't cope with it and the prices will fall. So if you are a competent mission runner, do not have an alt yet and are thiking about expending 3 months of training in an alt to get more ISK, I would rather go for a support killer to run level 4s faster.
If you already have a trained alt, though, then by all means go for it. I am an inventor and nothing could make me happier than cheaper datacores. :)

It doesn't require 3 months of training. With the right starting skills, it requires under 6 weeks (so only 1 month sub needed) to get lvl4 RPM and lvl4 RD skill. --------------- This sig has been censored in fear of recieving the ban hammer... |
