Hiya everyone.
I keep seeing these lotteries where people people put up a ship and expect 1.5 - 2x the value of the ship in ticket prices. How lame is that?
Here's my plan - I'm going to have a lottery via the event forums here. Tickets will be 1 million ISK per person, limited to one ticket per person. The prize is one of the following at the winner's choosing:
Bhaalgorn Vindicator Megathron Navy Issue Rattlesnake Raven Navy Issue Tempest Navy Issue Apocalyse Navy Issue
The thing that makes this a special lottery: The ship of choice will be completely officer fit, limited to what I have, or can get, with a spending limit of 50 billion ISK.
However, I'd be looking for a significant number of people to enter the contest - If Eve has 300 thousand+ active subscribers, I don't think it should be too difficult to get 2,000 people to buy in. Offhand, I'd disqualify any obvious alts.
This is my "Here's what I did in Eve" landmark. Just in case I haven't managed to do it yet with my parodies, other contests, etc.
So I'm going to leave this thread up for two weeks to solicit input from you, the community. Don't EVEmail me - my EVEmail box is cluttered enough. Don't send me ISK, this lotto isn't live yet. Post here with your thoughts.

Agreed, I'd like to know what method you propose to use to determine the winning ticket. The same as the BIG lottery? (lots of people get in a channel and start shouting out random numbers, then the sum is reduced modulo the # of tickets sold. The last number is submitted by a publicly trusted figure) My research services Spreadsheets: Top speed calculation - Halo Implant stats |

Edited by: Curzon Dax on 13/10/2007 02:56:46 Well, I hadn't thought about it yet.
I know the EVE Radio DJs have a lottery program that generates a name based on a random number generator for ticket entries. If there are two thousand entries, and I have to pick a number 1 - 2000, I can't exactly use a lottery. I'm not sure how BIG does it. Usually I just give ISK away in contests for people to write funny stuff, or make a video or something, I've never held a lotto.
*EDIT* Honestly, I could reduce ticket prices to 10,000 ISK per ticket - regardless of how you look at it, I'm not coming out ahead on this one, I just need a way to track people. =p

I'd definately buy a ticket for it and I know several others who'd do it to.
Nice initiative to see one of the really rich players do something for the little people and not just for making their already huge wallet even more huge.

If it's 1 mil ISK for 1 ticket and 2000 tickets will be sold, that means the total Revenue from the ticket sales is 2 bil. You are donating up to 48 bil ISK to the winner? (Which, btw, is probably why the 1 ticket per person limit) I know you're rich Curzon, but if this is true, gotta give you props for being one of the most generous multi-billionaires in Eve.

Yes, the whole point of this lotto is to hook someone up. I don't believe that lottos need to be about making ISK.

you could make an alt just for this then export the wallet and do something with that to track the people somehow.

They don't if you already have more than you can spend. But I do understand why people with smaller wallets want (and for some, probably need) to get a buck or two out of organizing stuff like that.
That said, ofc I'd buy a ticket.. 1 mil is.. well 1 mil and who am I to tell you not to throw isk at us if you want :D

I'd say to track people using the API is not too hard since you could easily export the transaction log and filter out the unique participants (so if one gives twice the pilot would have "donated" 1M since the name will only appear once in the drawing anyway).
But ofc then there is the "problem" of chosing winners, I'd say in an event like this just throwing in all the names in a big bowl (read db and randomize the "select" statement) would be a good option - if it can be trusted that it will go down that way ofc.

I'll be in as I'm not allowed in the BIG one.
also - I'l limit it to 1 / character - and use the API cash tracker to pull the data out, as you will not be able to spot all alts - so why not allow them.

Do it! I've been following your Battleship-fight thread and I must say that you seem to be a nice and VERY rich fella. This is a perfect way to do something nice to the community (tho your' battleship-thingy is way more than a lot of ppl have done). Well, you can count me, a lot of corpies and some friends in. I really want you to do this and I'll even help promote it a bit out of my regular sphere of ppl if thats what it takes.
Ps. The "One ticket per dude"-thing is crucial. It's sweet that a n00b has got the same chance as an old fox at this.

That sounds workable, even if I don't know what you're talking about. More details? :)
