Doing level 3 mission 'Massive Attack' in my newly bought Raven.
Lots of frigates at beginning, torps pretty much useless against them.
So I figure it must be this whole 'large missiles suck against small ships thing'
So I take 2 siege launchers out and put in light launchers. Guess what, no help.
Centi Butcher and Manslayer have EM resistance of 0, yet my sabertooth missiles still only do 25 damage a pop.
How do my shields get down to 75% only trying to kill TWO stinking little ships? There is something seriously wrong here.

Since you're less than a month old, I would have to say "bloody lack of any relevant skills whatsoever". _

Hmmm dont think this game is for me then.
Been playing the game bout 3 weeks now, ready for level 4 missions already but can't do them because I don't have the skills.
Can't say I ever played a game where progression was limited to real time.
Oh wells, it was fun while it lasted.

Stick with lvl 2's man, the lvl 3's are for grown ups
On a more serious tone: Use heavy/light missiles, use painters, webs and so on. Lvl 3 missions dont have bs as enemies so you dont need to use a bs to make those missions.
Get a nicer smaller ship. Or get more skills -----------------------------

Yes... this game is not meant to be played all day, unless you do pvp when you can be all day online defending the territory. I you want to do lvl 4's, get some friends with you. -----------------------------

Pretty much true
you really really need to actually have the complimentry skills for whichever ship your flying. If your having troubles in a L3 killing stuff but tanking ok in the waven you should use cruise/heavies on the cruisers and drones on frigates.
L3 frigates are paper thin but move like [insert proverbial phrase] but if you have a set of med drones they should obliterate them without much trouble. Even then you will still need skills to help.
Dump that raven and try a ferrox as that can tank well and has bonuses thats more specific to smaller ships/missiles.

Thing was, I wooped thru level 3s in my Drake, then I sold it when I had skill for Raven so I could get parts and insurance. Boy was that a mistake
Wanted to give painters/webifiers a shot but wouldn't have much tanking capability losing the med slots.
Ferox might be a good alternative however...
Sux Eve isn't a game meant to be played all day, cuz thats what I do
Ugh please dont make me log into WoW while my skills are training

Have fun in WoW or whereever you end. EVE is kinda 'special' in that regard.

Might want to stick with the Drake and L3s then. I do L4s in a Drake, not Raven, even if I have the skills for it. And I'm at over 22 mil SP by now (most of it not directly combat-related though). _

Expecing to do L4s in only a month is foolish, you need far more support skills. In fact, I daresay you've got terrible skills for your raven. You need to train more, a lot more. ----------------

Besides, it's not SKILLS that matters most in here, it's ISK
Get enough of it and you can buy a ready-trained char. Think of it as this : get enough ISK with your Drake in L3s, and get a char that blazes through L4s afterwards. _

I recently made an alt. You can run lvl 4 in a drake with 900k SP. You can also run them in a raven as soon you can hop into it. It's harder but doable. It's all about knowing wich skills you should train first. You don't need much missile skills at first. Some drone skill would help agianst the small stuff. And for lvl 3's the drake is a lot better suited then the raven.

There's a whole SECTION of the forum where you do exactly that. Character and Timecode Bazaar You buy/sell GTCs and characters for ISK there.
Just don't forget to read the stickies with the RULES. _

About the OP, I would also suggest that you stay off the lvl4s until you get a bit more skilled, or do them in a drake since the drakes tank as better than a ravens tank, and it can kill most BSs at halfdecent skills (will take forever though).
I myself still stay off some lvl4s, and I'm at somewhere between 14 and 16M SP, but I didn't start to train missionspesific (read caldari ships/missiles) skills until the last two months or so.

L4 heavy missiles, L5 missile launcher operation, L4 rapid launch, XR (or Arbalest/CN if you have too much ISK) heavy launchers and one or two T2 Ballistic Control System, 3x purger rigs, 3x Large Shield Extender II and a few hardners, and most L4s are a breeze in a Drake. _

Well i've been playing it for 4 years mate and in all honesty if you cant do lev 4's in your raven after 3 weeks and are upset by that then no, this game isn't for you. EVE isn't about 4 weeks and I win. Glad you had 3 weeks of fun though mate

I never even tried a L4 mission until 6 months ago.. and i've been playing this game almost 2 years.
There were some times where I had a lot of time on my hands.. and I played all day too.
The key, and this is very important if you want to enjoy eve. Join a corp and make some friends.. and go do something.. there is so much you can do in eve.. missions are only a very small part.. and even then.. missions are much more fun with a group of friends.

patience is a virtue
never played it, but afaik u cant reach lvl60 or whatever in WoW within a very short time either. also, realtime skill training benefits a lot of people that dont have time to play 8hrs a day. if u think thats a bad thing, well then thats your problem :D
also: getting up skills to lvl3 doesnt last very long and can help pretty much too.
and what do u expect? in lvl3s you sometimes encounter elite frigates. 2 missile launcher just wont do in certain circumstances, especially if you have very low skills.
but true, get the drake, will do any lvl3 easily once u have some basic skills to fit it up.

Maybe I'm looking at this the wrong way but...
Couldnt you just use your Raven to run the L3's until you have the skills to properly run L4s?
Just fill the high slots with Heavy Missiles and Medium Blasters, then fill the lows with 2x BCU + MagStab + some shield / cap mod. Fill the meds with the best shield tank resists you can with 1 or 2 boost amplifiers and a shield booster as opposed to the drake passive tank.
Keep running L3's for cash to buy riggings and named modules while you skill up for T2 modules. --- ΞνΞ ΘΠLІΠΞ |

75%? Who cares? Peak recharge for shields is at 33%. The time to worry with shields is when you drop below 50%. Even then as long as it took half a minute or more to get there you have time to escape.
But..yeah. L4 in 3 weeks is pushing it. Eve is a slow burn game. It's about character progression and exploring the game environment and the people that inhabit it. Your mad rush to 'win' and to fly the best ship is going to see you burnt out and dissillusioned. Enjoy Eve for the experience of playing not as a way to get cool toys and look uber. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

Why do people keep talking about lvl 4, when the OP is talking about lvl 3's?
OP, fit 6x light missiles or 6x heavy missiles for lvl 3's.
