Firstly this is not a "suggestions" thread, or a "What can be done to make these ships better" thread. I'm just posting some insight into what are currently the top 3 worst battleships.
#1 The Apoc: this ship used to be pretty decent. It could rat pretty well and was good in a dual rep setup that the geddon had a hard time fitting (impossible really). Nowadays because of the HP buff it can't do enough damage to make up for it's terrible bonuses. The one advantage it has is in fleet combat because it won't run out of cap as quickly, but a cap injected abaddon or geddon will outdamage it by a huge margin.
#2 The Scorpion: The only time you would want to fly this over a rook is if you are poor or don't have caldari cruiser 5 yet. It jams worse and has zero damage. Your better off flying a Jamming or Damping Raven any day of the week. (especially considering how low BS prices are currently)
#3 The Tempest: The Tempest is still a good sniper but it's out damaged and out tanked by the Maelstrom. In a small gang close range setup it's out damaged and out tanked by the Typhoon.
Production Profitability: I would personally never buy the BPO's for these 3 ships. Nor would I buy a Typhoon BPO. The demand is terrible. It's possible demand may go up when T2 battleships go live but that will be hard to determine. I really doubt it though because you will need the BPO to be doing invention anyway.
Jita Sales Figures, worst sellers: These numbers are currently best guesses since I can't log into the client I'll update this later today if someone else dosen't provide the numbers.
#1 Apoc #2 Typhoon #3 Scorpion
Battleship BPO purchases, worst sellers: This is something I'll really have to look at. I've never tried to look at BS BPO purchase histories.

Apoc, does not really have a role because of the abaddon.
I'd put the Geddon not far behind but still kinda good, if it had 8/4/7 slots it would go from kinda average to fricken uber IMO.

Fit it with heavy neuts and some kind or armor tank and use it in a remote repping gang as a cap warfare + ecm ship. But yeah if you're looking for a 150km+ sniper ecm ship then just use a rook or falcon instead.

You're pretty silly. The scorpion and 'pest are both awesome ships. Sure the scorp may not jam out to 219302km, but fleet battles are **** anyway.
The apoc isn't bad either.... at mining or playing bait. _______ shig |

Why would you ever fly a scorp for this role instead of a Raven? In fact why would you ever fly a scorp instead of a raven? Your doing your gang a disservice by flying something that does no damage and can't jam worth a damn. Being a flying brick without damage is terrible.
And yeah the pest is decent in fleet combat. But that is now the only area where it's any good. It sucks in every other situation, small gangs, ratting, etc..

#1 Apoc It really needs a new and unique role, maybe Khanid Mk2 should overhaul it too. With the changes to torps it might make a nice torp boat.
#2 Typhoon Its an extremly versatile ship but for a tier 1 bs its just too much. The skills needed to make it work are a horror if it was tier 3 with different bonuses i wouldnt mind but the way it is now ...
#3 Rokh The range bonus is nice but the damage it deals at those ranges is sub-par compared to other sniper ships and in mixed sniper gangs it just cant make use of the extra range.
BPOs i would love to have: Abaddon - great fleet and mission ship and should sell quite nicely as BPCs for production in 0.0 (or just build there yourself). Typhoon - just for invention. The pilots that can fly the typhoon efectivly will love the Black Ops version 100%.

Edited by: Vitaki on 15/10/2007 20:04:52 That is a very good point for the typhoon. I guess I'm biased because I fly with a few phoon pilots who do have those skills. But it is still a poor excuse for a dominix or a poor excuse for a megathron depending on your fit.
If you carry the right ammo a Rokh does the same damage as a Megathron at the same range, with the option of putting in even longer ranged ammo. So when in a 150km fleet, fit ammo to shoot 150km and it's all good. But it's bonuses force it into a very tight niche.

Actually Tempest significantly outdamages Maelstrom at BS5 without taking the 2 extra high slots into account. Maelstrom, especially the cap boostered variation, tanks like a mother, but Tempest will always do more damage and tackle better.

With the torp changes phoon will be able to deal 900 DPS in full tank mode(7 slot tank), and 1 slot for a target painter

Huh? When I run the numbers in eft with t2 1400mm and 3 gyrostabs on both with all level 5 skills using tremor the maelstrom outdamages the tempest and fits a much better tank. Do you think that people don't fit 8 guns on thier Maelstroms? The Maelstrom gets a better alpha strike too.

My 1st BS was a typhoon and with my skills back then i failed miserably with it. 3 years (and quite a few mil SP) later my typhoon turns out to be an awesome ship. Duckling turning into a swan like but for a tier 1 BS its too hard.
About the Rokh: Im a bit pampered by my abaddons alpha and range so the Rohk looks quite weak to me. With mixed sniping gangs (@160km) the Rohk really is sub-par for the skills needed and its price tag. If it could actually make use of its 249.99+ ranges things would be different but like all caldari snipers it really lacks the alpha to be a serious threat.

Why are you testing them with such bizarre fittings? Hold on, you're gonna make me download EFT at work...
Okay, with Maelstrom and Tempest piloted by a maxed skills character fitting only 800mm IIs (8 on maelstrom, 6 on tempest) their damages are 394 and 423 respectively. Tempest has two additional high slots. I was wrong about it outdamaging with just the 6 slots, but it certainly has more options open with those remaining two highs. As far as tank - meh. I'd rather have a heavy neut.

The scorpion can easily take 2 opposing battleships from the fight permanently using 4 slots for ECM and still tank as well as a plated megathron (about 100K effective hp accross the board) using 2 Inv Field II, 1 Extender II and 3 Core defence field extenders. Add the damage it can inflict, which is NOT neglectable even if lower than most battleships, and you have an extremelly effective ship for small to medium gangs.
There is a reason Scorpions are always primary. It is because they are extremelly dangerous. If you can keep your scorpions alive (through remote repairing, for example) you will most likely win most engagements.

To/for me I rank raven and megathron on the bottom, but then the raven doesn't feel right/comfortable for me and the megathron looks like an old woman who paid a plastic surgeon $30k to have a tummy tuck, her cheeks lifted, botox injections, breast lift, liposuction, and everything else but forgot to have the cellulite sucked out of her ass.
Mind you my experience with battleships is limited as I've only owned (on Tranquility) an abaddon (great DPS support ship), rokh (great mining ship), hyperion (okay mining ship, okay tagalong mission assistant), dominix (used to like it, fell out of love with it, should try it again), machariel, nightmare, and raven and flown, in addition to those, a maelstrom (nice ship, good looks) so you shouldn't use my opinion as any sort of basis for how most battleships manage.

worst to best, IMO
1- Apoc. because it's horrible 2- Abaddon. because it's amazing on SiSi but extremely immobile and awkward to use on TQ because of Cap issues 3- Rokh. 4- Maelstrom 5- Hyperion (you can tell I don't like tier 3 BS ) 6- Dominix 7- Scorpion 8- Typhoon 9- Raven 10- Tempest 11- Geddon 12- Megathron -----

No it cannot. The 6 Tempest Turrets will be the equivalente of 9.975 turrets in the Apocalypse. So unless you have 10 highs and 10 turrets hardpoints in your Apocalypse it does not outdamages the tempest. Even if you don't fit missiles in the 2 additional hardpoints of the tempest.
The damage difference between the Tempest and the Maelstrom is very slight. The Maelstrom wins but not by much, and it is heavier, slower and doesn't have 2 free highs to play with. It has a hell of a Tank though. So as a previous poster said, they are two different ships for 2 different purposes. I personally love the Tempest. It fits my play style in ways the maelstrom never could.

my fault i didnt phrase that right .. when you fit an apoc with an arty setup of 8 T2 1400mm Howitzers ( and a few gyro-stabalisers) you can ^_^

Maelstrom 4th worst BS?

It's the single best artillery boat, and one of the best autocannon boats. In point blank engagements really only the Megathron can hold its own.

If you fit a scorp as described you get 21,000 shields and do 200dps. I tested this with my 50m caldari/gallente pilot. If you were in a gatecamp defense situation and 100km off the gate this setup would be alright, but if you are that far from the fight, why not use a rook instead and perma jam 3 or 4 battleships?
If you actually get into the fight with a scorp your going to get primaried and die quickly, unless your whole gang is repping you, or you have a logistics ship 40km away repping you, but if you bother doing that, why not just stay out of the fight in the first place and use a better jamming ship, that can do so from even further away?
In roaming HAC gangs we use rooks for eccm, in fights near stations in empire we use rooks and at gatecamps we use rooks. The scorp just does no damage and is much harder to avoid getting killed in.
Originally by: kessah Tempest and maelstrom are completely different ships for different purposes. Theres absolutely no point in comparing them.

How are they different? the only difference that I can see is that you give up a good tank and better dps for two high utility slots when you pick a tempest over a maelstrom. And if I'm not an experienced player I don't know what kind of classification you are using. I've got pilots of every race with over 30m sp.
Originally by: Shereza Stuff about how I've not flown hardly any battleships.
I'm sorry man but the raven is far and away the best PvE ship and not bad when it fits EW stuff or a huge tank, and the Megathron is quite possibly the best sniping battleship.

No clue why people are listing the Scorp as one of the worst BSes. It has a role and is decently good at what it's supposed to do. It can tank like hell or it can jam several other ships.
Tempest is an ok ship, but it is competely outclassed by the Maelstrom, both in damage and tank. It's slightly more manuverable... whoo dee do da... If you're in a BS in the first place, you probably aren't overly concerned about manuverability.
The Typhoon is really a poor BS. It can get high theoretical DPS, but in more pratical fits (you know the ones that don't involve 6 slots of damage mods...) it is outclassed by almost all other BSes. The torp buff, if it does reach TQ could make it not such a crappy BS, but it certainly needs more powergrid.
That brings me to the Apoc. Yuck. Is outclassed in almost all ways by the Abbadon. It's essentially a poor man's abbadon, which isn't really a role at all (a relationship similar to the tempest-maelstrom).

the mael is an amazing Tanker but as it only has an ROF bonus it's DPS is severely lacking unless you fit 3 Gyro IIs. It also isn't versatile in the slightest when compared to the Tempest. I see a LOT of tier 3 BS on Sisi and there, they can be very successful. On TQ however the Tier 1 and 2 BS just seem a far better option 90% of the time, for various reasons which i'm too lazy to list right now -----
