Infinity, one guy and some random contributors, are going to build a bigger and better game than EVE? Good luck to them, it does look beautiful, but then I'm sure CCP devs could whip together equally as delicious tech demonstrations. Will that game live up to its promises, will it be more than pretty images and roleplay with no in-game mechanics beyond shooting other ships?
If it reaches gold, if it lives up to its own hype, if it gets hundreds of thousands of subscriptions and tens of thousands of players on the server at once, fantastic. Will someone eve mail me when that happens?

No, because by the time that game is released EVE will have long since died after many, many years of service.

the company doesn't exist anymore, they will never make the game.
the only thing they have is the engine, and that is up for sale.
lets hope someone buys it. ----------------------------------- I'm working my way through college target CCP need...more room... |

aha, I knew it had something to do with Jupiter .
Oh and to one of the posters above, the planet in the vid is not earth, just an earth-like planet to show the engine of the game. Go to their website to see more cool vids (there has been lots of advancement since that vid came out). -----------------------------------------------------

Every line I went down/through I kept thinking "why do I feel..."
Just read this thread and sheesh... "mildly" interested in how this game would be, seeing all this mocking towards eve and such comments made me figure it's not worth it.

Seriously, its a FPS which is NOT what EvE is about. It might entice all the twitch players/WoW kiddies to go somewhere else and bring some tactics back to Eve though....
Umm. Since when do you have to be a wow kiddie to enjoy a bad-asp looking FPS game?
Personally, I will be looking to play that game soon as it comes out. Huxley is another one that looks f'in amazing.

Going gold? Imho, this game is vaporware. Its never going to get so far as a QA team let alone getting pressed.
Even if it weren't, and it is released in 4 to 6 years... I won't play it. I really don't want to play an MMO (not an MMOrpg as they've said) where its twitch and there is absolutely no character advancement beyond, "I just bought like 60 gizzilion of the game currency so now I can fly whatever I want."
BTW, to whomever linked this and is now spouting off about the "eve zealots" spamming the IQFE forums, how exactly is what you are doing here any different?
I anxiously await your reply.

Well since EVE-O is in its early development stages and you can't play, can I have your stuff. Its not like you can use it anyway.

Better than a razor we can't use? I mean if the intention would be to cut ourselves with a razor, the razor you can actually use would be better..

Infinity looks very nice.
I would really like it if CPP introduced optional 'first person perspective' and 'landing on planets' in EVE.
However ...
Quote: How long will the development last ? When are you planning to release it ?
The official release date is "when it's done". The beta might start in 2008, but it's just a rough estimation due to the fact we are working on it in our spare time.
... I'm kind of skeptical about how much they can achieve.

actually, I want the abillity to turn OFF ships and fancy effects on the fly. Sure it runs silky smooth when mission running, ratting and the like but in the few times I've been in space with 50 or so ships engaged in anything resembling combat, my system slows to a CRAWL. It isn't like my sytem is a slouch (Dual Core processor, 2x Gefore 7900's in SLI 3 GB ram) - eve just seems to chew up more resources than it's presentation would imply. Increasing that dramitically seems that it would exacerbate the current issue. But then again, I don't know how it well it will run - can't ever seem to get singularity to work.

infinity looks cool but they don't seem to have any commercial sense, so it might flop not from being a bad game but from being poorly marketed
That'd be a shame as it looks like the devs there put in a lot of effort and enthusiasm, but could see it happening

You know, people keep bringing up Infinity, as if it's some golden magical King of all Space Games that's going to blow EVE out of the sky.
It's not. It's a different game, aimed at a slightly different market. I just can't work up the enthusiasm for Infinity that I have maintained over EVE for the past two years.
So, pretty though it may be.... is it really necessary to bring it in here? - The game is not the problem. The problem is that you are not adapting to the game.

That is pretty optimistic. I have played plenty of new games with less annoying bugs, glitches, and flaws than EVE. EVE is popular because there is no other spaceship MMO. I for one have no brand loyalty thanks to all the subpar service CCP has given me, and will switch as soon as something else as good comes out (and the bar is not high).

Infinity is a carebear/solo player's dream. Infinite universe means you will never have to fight if you don't want to, and there's always more of the same territory for you to build on.
IMO it will be like playing sim city, IE get boring very fast. Its pretty to look at, but nothing you do has any real consequence. Somebody conquered your npc empire that you built by yourself(rofl at being able to do that)? No problem! Just fly for 10 minutes in a random direction and start a new one! It'll be a bunch of solo players or small groups of players carebearing to their heart's content. There will be runaway inflation because there are no real money sinks in that game and it will be farmer infested.
All that will matter is how much money you have in your wallet(which I'm sure 2 weeks after it comes out you can buy on ebay) and nothing else. Its the ultimate carebear land.
I for one see that as an extremely boring game. What good is building a giant empire with thousands of players(like people do in eve) if it has no impact whatsoever? People will simply run to some other part of the universe far away and enjoy the same benefits as you do even with all your teamwork and dedication. signature removed - please email us to find out why (include a link to the image URL) - Jacques([email protected]) |
