Personally I think j0rt's alt characters were very well named. His ore thief was called "j0rty McGrief" and his scamming character was called "Commander Con". Not that you'd ever do business with someone called Commander COn ;-) Was just for fun really...

yes names have meanings, my name was after a realb Pirate Capt Longstreet, and for a civil war general James, Longstreet, and for a sucessfull gunman, who lived in Tonapah Nevada, to the ripe old age of 90 years old, i would say he was sucessful, to live that old. and i muyst confess that is where i got the name. the other two, were also real people. So yes i got my name from real people.

I hate seeing names like "Darth Assneck" and "Commander Jollynutz." Hate it. Maybe CCP's next game will have both PvP AND an incredibly hardassed naming policy.
My favorite names are always the ones that look like they fit into their racial background, or like people at least put some effort into upholding the fiction of Eve.

I like names that suit the universe, but i also love the funky one word nicknames. I look at these like a callsign or whatever, they still work.
I also think the names show a lot about the player if you think about it, you can tell the greifers and the roleplayers and the wannabees ect.
P.S my name is just totally random and made up if you cant tell, thought it sounded funky.

i got my name from a random name creator in FFXI...
kinda sounds japanese or sumthing...but whatever, better then "stupid563" and "IRl337"
bet ive seen some nice names...but i fail to remember them at the moment
