I don't have any examples, but i think that the best name are the names that sorta fits in with the world, but isn't based on other people's fiction or ideas. Or other RL stuff.

names that arnt things like john604525 or stuff like that. is a space type game so the names should saound at least vaguely spacey imo. in a dungeouns n dragons type setting you should go for Lord this or Sir that something that goes with the setting.

Ontopic, and interestingly enough, best name I ran across is probably Istvaan Shogaatsu - that sounds 100% Caldari and 100% appropriate, unlike the vast majority of usernames.
The funniest name I saw was Qtip...really...

Since my usualy online name of Brom was taken I thumbed through a dictionary and came up with hematic which I think just means 'of or pertaining to blood".

I have to agree with the respondant above: the best names are ones that maintain the character of the game. Having names like Cobra2003 just defeat the whole "rpg" part of mmorpg.

Personally I think j0rt's alt characters were very well named. His ore thief was called "j0rty McGrief" and his scamming character was called "Commander Con". Not that you'd ever do business with someone called Commander COn ;-) Was just for fun really...

yes names have meanings, my name was after a realb Pirate Capt Longstreet, and for a civil war general James, Longstreet, and for a sucessfull gunman, who lived in Tonapah Nevada, to the ripe old age of 90 years old, i would say he was sucessful, to live that old. and i muyst confess that is where i got the name. the other two, were also real people. So yes i got my name from real people.

I hate seeing names like "Darth Assneck" and "Commander Jollynutz." Hate it. Maybe CCP's next game will have both PvP AND an incredibly hardassed naming policy.
My favorite names are always the ones that look like they fit into their racial background, or like people at least put some effort into upholding the fiction of Eve.

I like names that suit the universe, but i also love the funky one word nicknames. I look at these like a callsign or whatever, they still work.
I also think the names show a lot about the player if you think about it, you can tell the greifers and the roleplayers and the wannabees ect.
P.S my name is just totally random and made up if you cant tell, thought it sounded funky.

I personally don't like the number in names rubbish, and sometimes I wonder how some people's names get thru without being changed. I also don't like all the darth's, skywalker's, and other sci-fi names stolen from other books/games/movies (I'll make an exception for Josh and Maud, only cause I like the people tho)
Personal faves atm:
* Drunkenmaster - a great film and a great name for a pirate
* The Reverend - completely normal until you realise he is a pirate, and then it becomes very evil.
* TornSoul - just a very cool name (and a cool person playing the character)
* Slinky Redfoot - just sounds dodgy as hell
* Entity - sounds mysterious
* Talon Ferez - one of the best military style names i've come across
* Jade Constantine - Sounds like a ruler/politician, and she writes like one

I think "BringOutYourDead" was a good name cause besides podding himself he was always spaming trade chat trying to buy corpses (monty python reference) but i think that guy changed his name to BeefStu, afaik he still pods himself for $

Hugh Janus makes me chuckle, especially when he feigns innocence about his name
drunkenmaster just because of the cool film reference (incidentally there's also a player called Drunken Master - which has made me double-check the system sec status on more than one occasion )

I remember flying in my industrial in atlar and showing my friend the game and then two pkers jumped through the gate and started to volley off missiles at me, i looked at there names and it was something like tampax and maxi pad, i had a great laugh after i saw that :)
