The name may change but the lagged out hell hole will always be the same wherever it ends up. And seriously? You young'uns have it good in Jita. Anyone remember Yulai on Sundays with a third of the current player base? Taking (and I kid ye not!) an hour and a half to jump 3 systems because the surrounding area was lagged out so badly in the last couple of weeks before the killed Yulai?

Some players choose not to enter lowsec. Forcing them to do so is unfair to them no matter how happy it makes your pants. Also i find my own pants a bit happy over the idea, but fair is fair.

It would make a whole lot more sense, and would be fair enough. There are hubs in each empire anyway.

People seem to forget that no matter what, entering Jita is a choice. If you don't like lag, you don't have to go there.
Of course, the root of the problem is that people want all the benefits of Jita without having any slow down. Fact: convenience has a price. In this case, it's lag. Deal with it. The "Archipelago theory" makes alot of logical sense. And if some don't want to make a few jumps through low security to reach another empire then so be it. They can stay within their own borders. The idea would help at least divide the trade hub that is Jita, as trading goods between empires would become more dangerous and costly. Forcing some to instead sell the items nearby instead of at one single point in the universe.
My favorite idea is to lower security as player population goes up, at a time increment of say every half-hour the server checks the population and as it increases the security inversely decreases, when it reaches a max point of whatever CCP deems to many it dips into .4 security and let the pirates come!
What also needs to be changed is the amount of people that can fit in the station each station should have a cap on how many players can dock there. Furthermore at stations like Jita 4-4 there needs to be a parking meter that needs to be paid and instead of a static amount make it proportional to the amount of people trying to get in. This would force players out to other stations and if all stations can be capped, other systems.

It wouldn't force players to enter lowsec at all, they could happily remain in their respective empire if they so wished it. Meanwhile other major trade hubs would spring up, inter regional traders would be able to potentially make better returns which would fit in with the higher risk. To me its a very fair proposal.

I would greet with cold satisfaction the news that Jita's primary went nova. But that is not because it is annoying to visit. Rather, it is annoying when problems in Jita affect other things (nodes, or the entire server) outside of Jita. Jita is a choice. The entire cluster is not.
Some pilots speak of economic incentives, and I imagine some of those would work. A reduction in sales tax or brokerage fees in other systems would see some marketers leave Jita like a bat out of hell.
Regardless, things are still much better than they were in the Yulai era. Each empire has a major trading hub of its own, and several very large minor ones. Even the short statement about what the next economic report will reveal could not ignore this. They mentioned Hek, but could as well have said Stacmon, or Gelfiven, or Motsu, or Nonni... That is a very good change from the old days. (Well, not for Nonni, but the others...)

Quick question: when was the last time you posted anything useful, constructive or informative?
And to the OP: I disagree. From a simple game mechanics point of view yes, it would be better if Jita wasn't a "real" system as such, simply an insta-jump-in-docked-market-hub. BUT the feeling and impression of a bustling, thriving, overcrowded trade hub is crucial to Jita IMO.
EVE can already feel like a barren, empty place, with only a few systems populated. Heck, if you live in 0.0 or low-sec you can sometimes travel for hours without seeing anyone who doesn't insta-safespot-cloak as soon as you enter local.
Plus, the war fighting that goes on in Jita is always entertaining :p

IMO Jita is the result of free transport given to everyone.
The only isk involved in transport is the one off buy of the ship, after that 1 jump costs the same as 100. One trade hub becomes viable. I havent forgoten about time costs which should influence things, but its clear we're not dealing with professional traders.
Eve traders might be more influenced if there was an associated fuel cost. Just my opinion.

Edited by: Sheriff Jones on 04/11/2007 12:10:30 Problems with the OP:
- New code to bring you from gatejump to station. - New code(+UI and graphics) to select an exit system. - New code to make the station->gate possible.
While a nice enough idea, implementation as such would take more work then any other solution.
Easier solution to Jita?
New gates AROUND Jita. Like a proverbial turn-about of spacial proportions.

What sense ? you see any "no-mans land" between borders of any countries in the world today ? countries can't have borders that goes between their lands ?
It does not make sense to have so between all the empires. ---------------------------------------------- "When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I felt as a child, I thought as a child: now that I am become a man, I have put away childish things." 1 cor. |

Fat Willy has good ideas.
Jita should be restructured a bit. Not like it hasnt been done to varying degrees in the past.
There will always be a trading hub, simply because this is modern life and we all enjoy "convenience".
You cannot fight it, just try and fix or - make it accessible.

Jita fix?
Go to Rens and start heavily undercutting all Jita prices on commonly needed items. Get the rest of your cartel to do the same. Encourage rival cartels to start up in Amarr and Oursuleart.
But you would lose tons of isk? Oh well looks like the Jita traders keep the goldmine forever then.
(by the way I dont care either way, off-peak Jita trading trip once a month for me :))

Edited by: Praenor on 05/11/2007 00:43:21 Just make brokerage fees and taxes scale with the level of market activity in the system. If Jita, at its current level, had broker fees and taxes of 10%, I think that would eventually force at least a somewhat-distributed world and automatically compensate for any new trade hub which pops up.
