OK so Jita is the longest standing lag-fest in the game. And before Jita, we had Yulai (nicknamed Yu-lag) that was the dominant trade centre in the game. Yulai only died when the superhighways were scrapped, in an attempt to relieve the pressure on that system, but surprise surprise, Jita simply took its place. So market forces seem to dictate that there will always be a master trade centre in the game.
The more the station at Jita IV moon 4 has prospered, the more pointless the rest of Jita has become. Other activity in Jita has become impractical because of the lag - even the agents have moved out! Lets face it, the only reason people go there these days is because of the trade hub, or if their sadistic agent from a nearby system happens to send them through there on a courier mission.
So why don't we accept that Jita only needs to be a trade hub now? Why can't we just jump straight into the station from the jump gate? It would save a lot of time-wasting for us all, and reduce the server-hits from this system. When leaving the station, we could instead be offered jump-routes out of the trade hub into a chioce of neighbouring systems. Yippee! No more laggy pile-up when we leave the hub, and no more frustration trying to align for warp whilst countless other ships are ejected from the station on top of you.
The only down-side of this that I can think of is that it makes the war-related camping that sometimes goes on there more difficult, but this could presumably move to the jump-in points.
So how about it CCP - remove this miserable system and give us direct jump access into the trade-hub we all need. You could probably do the same in Amarr, Rens etc as well?

Yup, but something does need to change in Jita. People will rightly continue to ask for something to be done until its fixed.

Thats the majority of players you're calling morons. Bet you've been to Jita too!
But seriously, the game will be better for everyone if this bottleneck can be bypassed. And this isn't a whine, its a practical suggestion.

The outstanding problem here is this. Say your idea is implemented and we can fit 2,000 ppl into Jita before the lag starts. What is going to happen? 3000 little morons will pile into Jita, start screaming bloody murder over the lag, and accusing CCP of being lazy, not caring about the people who pay the game, etc... etc... etc... And a million more whines will be posted across the forums complaining. There are thousands of systems in Eve, multiple trade hubs across the galaxy, just pick another.

I do, but I suspect that OP is too young character to remember Yulai... Jita is today what Yulai was before, they fixed Yulai .. but created Jita. Fix Jita and you create something else... just as bad or maybe worse.

To "fix" any sort of uber trade hub CCP should introduce escalating costs to doing business there. As more orders are put up the cost to do business there goes up. IRL if you have a store in the super mega-mall you will pay more as the merchant to rent space there than you would if you put your store in the little strip mall in the boonies.
This would at first spread business to other stations in Jita and then push business outside of Jita.
In short it is a self correcting mechanism.

I don't get it, why 95% of the repliers here, do not go to Jita, and still care about whether it should be fixed or not. I myself basically live in Jita, because it's nearby to 3 other regions and is therefore an excellent spot for a trader. I really do not get what should be "fixed", because lag there ain't that big (for me) to bother me. Ok, let them fix it or not, I don't care; but people, who swear they never go to Jita, and still are concerned about the lag... Really, stop it.

Jita is like a wonderous dream world where any want or need can be filled at a price. If I ever need or want for ANYTHING I can always be sure to find it in Jita.
It is a Mecca for all the universe to have dreams realized and the place where untold welth can be made and lost.
The scammers flock there to bait their hooks with lies to catch the lazy or trusting.
The manufacturers flock there because they can always count on the miners and producers undercutting eachother to keep stockpiles of materials from growing too large.
The speculators and traders move vast ammounts of every mod in the game to sell in Jita at low profit with high volume.
The major players in 0.0 and the plex farmers move their officer and faction mods their to where the people with Isk and the desire to buy the highest end mods in game will gladly pay.
Jita is a the most wonderful and "Alive" system in EVE... the only down side is the lag and constant spamming in local.
If anything Jita needs its own set of rules for local chat where the throng of players yelling to the masses about their contracts and items for sale are limited in the length and frequency of their wailing.

what? To be fair I have to comment that I rarely actually get lag in jita, surely all the people who are lagged to extremes into jita will learn that it is a place to avoid at certain times of the week and therefore not go there? It's a bit like evolution, if you don't want to get ****ed off by it, don't go there!

The name may change but the lagged out hell hole will always be the same wherever it ends up. And seriously? You young'uns have it good in Jita. Anyone remember Yulai on Sundays with a third of the current player base? People seem to forget that no matter what, entering Jita is a choice. If you don't like lag, you don't have to go there.
Of course, the root of the problem is that people want all the benefits of Jita without having any slow down. Fact: convenience has a price. In this case, it's lag. Deal with it. The "Archipelago theory" makes alot of logical sense. And if some don't want to make a few jumps through low security to reach another empire then so be it. They can stay within their own borders. The idea would help at least divide the trade hub that is Jita, as trading goods between empires would become more dangerous and costly. Forcing some to instead sell the items nearby instead of at one single point in the universe.
My favorite idea is to lower security as player population goes up, at a time increment of say every half-hour the server checks the population and as it increases the security inversely decreases, when it reaches a max point of whatever CCP deems to many it dips into .4 security and let the pirates come!
What also needs to be changed is the amount of people that can fit in the station each station should have a cap on how many players can dock there. Furthermore at stations like Jita 4-4 there needs to be a parking meter that needs to be paid and instead of a static amount make it proportional to the amount of people trying to get in. This would force players out to other stations and if all stations can be capped, other systems.

It wouldn't force players to enter lowsec at all, they could happily remain in their respective empire if they so wished it. Meanwhile other major trade hubs would spring up, inter regional traders would be able to potentially make better returns which would fit in with the higher risk. To me its a very fair proposal.

I would greet with cold satisfaction the news that Jita's primary went nova. But that is not because it is annoying to visit. Rather, it is annoying when problems in Jita affect other things (nodes, or the entire server) outside of Jita. Jita is a choice. The entire cluster is not.
Some pilots speak of economic incentives, and I imagine some of those would work. A reduction in sales tax or brokerage fees in other systems would see some marketers leave Jita like a bat out of hell.
Regardless, things are still much better than they were in the Yulai era. Each empire has a major trading hub of its own, and several very large minor ones. Even the short statement about what the next economic report will reveal could not ignore this. They mentioned Hek, but could as well have said Stacmon, or Gelfiven, or Motsu, or Nonni... That is a very good change from the old days. (Well, not for Nonni, but the others...)

And to the OP: I disagree. From a simple game mechanics point of view yes, it would be better if Jita wasn't a "real" system as such, simply an insta-jump-in-docked-market-hub. BUT the feeling and impression of a bustling, thriving, overcrowded trade hub is crucial to Jita IMO.
EVE can already feel like a barren, empty place, with only a few systems populated. Heck, if you live in 0.0 or low-sec you can sometimes travel for hours without seeing anyone who doesn't insta-safespot-cloak as soon as you enter local.
Plus, the war fighting that goes on in Jita is always entertaining :p

IMO Jita is the result of free transport given to everyone.
The only isk involved in transport is the one off buy of the ship, after that 1 jump costs the same as 100. One trade hub becomes viable. I havent forgoten about time costs which should influence things, but its clear we're not dealing with professional traders.
Eve traders might be more influenced if there was an associated fuel cost. Just my opinion.

Fat Willy has good ideas.
Jita should be restructured a bit. Not like it hasnt been done to varying degrees in the past.
There will always be a trading hub, simply because this is modern life and we all enjoy "convenience".
You cannot fight it, just try and fix or - make it accessible.

Jita fix?
Go to Rens and start heavily undercutting all Jita prices on commonly needed items. Get the rest of your cartel to do the same. Encourage rival cartels to start up in Amarr and Oursuleart.
But you would lose tons of isk? Oh well looks like the Jita traders keep the goldmine forever then.
(by the way I dont care either way, off-peak Jita trading trip once a month for me :))

eww - another america hater, who most likely is a us citizen.
it's progress, pro-globalization and expanding industry. you don't have to shop there, and you probably do not. none the less, the rest of us will
btw, next time you're drinking your cafe-bebe-mocha-grande-chai-liberal-uber expresso from Star*******s, you're still being the patron of a huge profit oriented corporation - which i am fine with, so long as you dont bs yourself about it
welcome to the free market, embrace it

Dumbest thing I've ever heard. Please don't talk when you don't know what you're talking about. And keep your pseudo-socioeconomic politics out of this thread, and off this forum.

Edited by: Praenor on 05/11/2007 00:43:21 Just make brokerage fees and taxes scale with the level of market activity in the system. If Jita, at its current level, had broker fees and taxes of 10%, I think that would eventually force at least a somewhat-distributed world and automatically compensate for any new trade hub which pops up.
