The cans in belts served a purpose, alot currently dont and they are working on some method of dealing with them because they are a problem. For now its impossible to tell which ones are needed, and which ones are now just junk because of the sheer number. While can art serves no immediate purpose and its obvious that these cans could be culled with very little loss if any.
If its something thats meant to be visited, such as art, or cemeterys and it became popular, then it wouldn't be an out of the way system anymore would it, it would become a hub ( I'm not talking jita / trade ). If it didn't become popular, if it wasn't beneficial, then why does it need to exist ?
Take it to Sisi.
Perhaps you could enjoy the game for once, instead of whining about lag? Though I bet it must be harsh dealing with it in empire everyday. ________ "It's a good day to die!"

Had no one lended them a hand and shown them the errors they had been making I'm sure many a corp would be low in members.
I've filled detailed bug reports when I've found them and tried to keep them up to date.
What exactly have you contributed what to the eve universe?

To be honest, I mainly post on the forums during quiet times at work and downtime when nothing else has taken my interest. I wouldn't call it whining, especially not at the level most of the forums posters create replys with.
Also, never really been affected by lag, desync yes, lag, no. I'd hate to suffer from it, which is why I have voiced my opinions, and concerns, even added an alternative, rare amongst many posts. ___

Edited by: Admiral Pelleon on 15/11/2007 03:18:21 Sure it does, those who spend their lives living in places like Motsu, salia, etc (you) will complain alot more than those who live out in the middle of nowhere (me). For me, the answer is easy, lag is non-existent if you stay out of the 10 or so systems where it's always awful due to population. Maybe you'd be a better judge of that node's performance than he is. But from what I gather, it's a backwater place that doesn't see any load. ________ "It's a good day to die!"

Originally by: syphurous There are many other ways to be creative in Eve, CCP Prism X even suggests taking this sort of thing to Sisi where it wont inpact everyone playing on Tranquility.
The problem here is that regular can art is "just" empty cans that are mere building blocks. This cemetery uses actual corpses - unless there is a way to transfer items from Tranquility to Singularity, it'll be pointless to do it on Sisi.
I'd think the best way would be some sort of new container, surely there's a way to create objects in the database that won't need as much resources as a regular can. -------------------------------------------------- I'm a rich person. How I know? I can afford to be a miner. |

Continuing his arguement now with dev "backup".
Ok. Apparently you're right.
But actions speak louder than words, and hence CCP, CCP Prysm X, and you, by proxy, don't have a leg to stand on.
- People have been asking literally for years for a time-to-live timer to be put on GSCs. Why? Because it's an eye sore. Let alone the render lag it creates when you warp to a belt with tons of cans in it. It also can effect gameplay when you're trying to navigate by double clicking in space and accidently click a can instead.
Now a CCP rep admits that it has negative effects on the database? Um... ok. So, "can art", which might be comprised of several hundred cans is bad for the database but the MILLIONS of abandoned cans out there aren't? Makes no logical sense.
- There have been other suggestions put forth by players to address lag (need for speed?) that have apparently been ignored. One such is asking for the auto market refresh to be made an option. Try selling crap in Jita. Every time you sell something with the market panel up, you have no option but to wait for that to refresh before continuing on to the next item.
One of the best ways of improving a DB's performance is to get rid of needless queries. Seems like an obvious target but yet no action.
- There's lag inducing things that no one thinks about because they don't see it. Items in other peoples station hangers, is one.
You dock at Jita 4-4, followed directly by me. You have thousands of items in your hanger in tons of GSCs, all of which must be queried and sent to you before the database can get to querying my stuff and sending it to me. You're slowing me down by being a pack rat. All of these items have to be sent to your client including all the disimilar properties so your items list columns can be populated. Compared to 100-200 cans in space, all of which have exactly the same properties with the exception of 1 or 2 for description and owner tags.
----
But whatever. You're right because a CCP rep has complained about it and has a script he can't even remember when he made (that's how high priority it is) and maybe it will be used some day to clean up all those abandoned cans...
Here's a football bat to go with the logic of all this.
God forbid someone does something creative that might cause lag when we have to live with the remnants of thousands of lazy people which definately does cause lag.
Sure makes the "sandbox" feel free and open. More and more it's just a sandbox full of cat turds. And it really is depressing that as soon as someone does something creative or suggests something new, someone always has to come along and scream, "OMG u lag meh!".
----
CCP needs to get their act together and address these things in a clearly defined way. Simply dropping vague comments into threads hinting that something is lag inducing doesn't cut it.
What about the millions of abandoned noob ships? What about the millions of abandoned shuttles? What about the millions of abandoned drones? What about the millions of player corpses? What about the millions of abandoned GSCs at belts, planets, or moon "claims".
All things left in the game by players playing the game "by the rules". So is there rules about leaving things in space or isn't there? The only one I know of that is somewhat rule-like is no spamming cans at gates. Creates jump-in lag = exploit.
----
So CCP needs to either **** or get off the pot on these things. And you should stop crapping on people's ideas simply because you feel you have the unbroachable moral highground.
It's CCP's place to say, "That's lag inducing, don't do it" quickly followed by some game mechanic to make it no longer possible. Simply dropping hints that it might be a bad thing is BS and does nothing positive in regards to one's sense of freedom in our supposed sandbox.

that'll cost you. i'm not made of ISK you know, contact me ingame and we'll discuss something.
Originally by: Kirren D'marr I've got a handful of corpses I picked up in my travels, usually poor souls found floating outside a station. Do you have a preferred location where these can be contracted to you?
Originally by: Savesti Kyrsst Awesome idea. Again, how can corpses be donated to you? Can you accept them at a hub (Amarr/Jita) or only somewhere closer?
i can collect from any NPC station but i would prefer the contracts to be made in empire. Amarr/Jita is fine.
sypherous: please visit Molea and see what i mean by the fact its lag free.

noob ships and shuttles don't defiantly I still lose one;s today occasional I dumped years ago
drones I'm not sure of they never used to, but some say they get moved to center of sun these days at downtime.
corpses I'm not sureof either but I've seen some floating for days in past but yer I guess these possibly do disappear.
although I do think shuttles ect won't be as bad as belts full of cans ect cause if its in safe spot because you never visit it so dastbase doesn't really do any extra work I don't think, but a belt full of cansd has to be loaded and quired.

Really cool idea Always nice to see someone do something new. Player made content ftw - allowing players to add to the immersion of the game is one of the ways eve is dynamic. Would be cool if it could be memorialised in some of the fiction or news or something.
