If you have problems reinstalling the Linux .deb version after trying out the Beta client, remember to remove the directory you installed Eve into - as using dpkg -r eve will only remove the "installer" part rather than all the files downloaded.

The wallet icon is worse than before.
I just sold 50m worth of items, and it's stuck on my previous figure. I've undocked, and jumped through several systems yet it won't change.

The Download page states that the EVE Client Software is 636 MB but when the Mac client is 844 MB. Nothing trivial but I though it should brought to your attention.

For those of you wishing to download and install the Linux client and you have already installed the test client.
Download the .dat and the .dat.md5 files to your home directory.
The start the Eve Configuration utility and select reinstall. Point it at the new dat/md5 files and the game will reinstall with the new version overwriting the old version. http://ccp.vo.llnwd.net/o2/linux/EveOnline-linux-000893_41736.dat http://ccp.vo.llnwd.net/o2/linux/EveOnline-linux-000893_41736.dat.md5

The new convert to fleet rather than gang still goes to the old gang section just named fleet rather straight to a fleet you still need to convert to a fleet after (Im assuming this is not intentional since you can switch back to gang once properly setup in a fleet).

I downloaded the Mac client - no joy. It comes up with the install screen Eve ===> Applications , drag to install. It copies to Applications, but when I try to run it from applications I get the error "You cannot open the application "EVE Online" because it may be damaged or incomplete" .
I've tried downloading twice and get the same result.

WORKS FANTASTIC on my MacBook Pro...
Only complaint was I needed a download manager as it kept timing out at EXACTLY the same point for some odd reason... like each time at like 485.2mb or some random spot.
I used Speed downloader 4 - and it downloaded at like 2500k lol... (Took literally 5 minutes.)
The only bug I can see - when I play in windowed mode - the bar on the top of the screen adjusts to the resolution of my window. Hmmmm - how to explain lol... Ok - i have it in windowed mode at 1280x800whatever - but my destop resolution is at 1400x900whatever - the top menu bar only stretches across 1280 px - not the full 1400...
I'm too lazy to make a screenshot - and it's not game breaking by anymeans - cosmetic and could care less lol. :) Just so happy I can take Winblows off my computer.

The Dev team is aware of the issue with the lack of killmails being sent and have found a fix. To deploy the fix, it is necessary to reboot the server, an operation that will begin momentarily. We apologize for the inconvenience the server reboot will cause.

i miss something ?
Ubuntu 7.10 nVidia 7600 1go RAM
You running it as root?
Apparently that can cause an issue like that.
I believe he's running as "jean".. :p
Also, I too get a similar issue. Try running debug to file from the Configuration tool and tell me if the log tries to take over your hard drive - seriously.
I'm getting the same thing as well with the new installer, splash and crash, on Ubuntu 7.10. I had it working fine last night under Cedega. Tried uninstalling Cedega, uninstalling eve, reinstalling, using the dat files posted in page 1, still splash and crash over and over.

After I installed the patch i trained a 2 hour skill and left, now when i got back "ooops the server is down !" , hope is not gonna stay like last time when i lost like a day of training time ! And btw, do something about this game, when there are above 33k players logged in I might as well leave the game myself cause otherwise I'm kicked* (connection lost), this happens very often and it's really starting to **** me off !

Honestly, don't play on patch day if you don't want problems. Put a long skill training "as they always suggest" and go outside. I consider a patch day to be 24 hrs of downtime. Sure, I'll log in and do some stuff, but system instability is to be expected. Anything can happen, so be conservative. Anyone who is complaining is being infantile. Grow up and learn to cope.

so regardless of the server being offline, I have another bug I want to mention.
When in windowed mode (Apple+return) I am trying to drag EVE to a secondary display. When I click and Drag EVE, after releasing it in the second display it always bounces back leaving an inch on the primary display and the rest of EVE on the second display. I cannot get the entire windowed EVE application on the secondary display. This only happens with EVE, no other application.
Anyone else having this problem?

Yea, CCP's download server suck. Very slow downloads and i usually get like >1000kb/s from other servers. I wish they would setup a torrent or something.

So youd be happy if your telephone was out of order for weeks at a time - patches are applied constantly by BT after being rigourously tested and if they muck up you get a refund - but as EVE only costs me about 21P a day I guess I won't get much !

Must be your first patch day, never train a skill that will finish within +-12h of patch time, sometimes the server crashes and they just keep it down to do the patch, sometimes everything goes horribly wrong on the different hardware and they keep it down for a full 12h, sometimes a full day. As far as getting kicked with 33k people online... stop sitting in a station in jita and this won't happen.

And all of you complaining about skills... I don't know what to say... they warn you every freakin time. Set a long skill training, because there could be and 9 times out of 10 there are problems, so if you scheduled a skill to finish right after a scheduled patch thats your own fault.

You have to fool around with the arrangement of the displays in preferences. I offset the second display lower than the primary and it seemed to work. Not sure why - it's a bug for sure.

AS kieron said something about putting the server down, this doesn't sound like any accident. And so I don't see any reason why CCP doesn't have a small kind of warning - "The server will be down in 5 minutes, please look for a safe spot [...]". Sure, patchdays are difficult, but a lot players started missions, skills etc. Just to be curious - what about lost ISK because you can't finish your mission and won't get the extra bounty?

A warning is a nice but seriously, it's PATCH DAY!!! What about this don't you understand!?! System instability anyone? If you have a skill coming up, your fault! If you are ratting and log back in in a pod, your fault! Expect the server to go down unexpectedly (see how that works?) and don't take risks unless you are ok with the consequences. Now quit your whining and let the very nice people at CCP (who give us such a great internet spaceship game to play) do their work.

Despite how much stupidity you may insure yourself with, life has no warranty nor disclaimer.
Luckily CCP were kind enough to suggest a plan of risk management and informed you to train a long skill.
You did train a long skill didn't you?
Do you really expect them to reimburse you for refusing to follow instructions?
I suggest that you stop making demands of others and demand attention to detail from yourself.

It's true - if a person is not an experienced reader, they WOULD have trouble knowing what's going on. But in that case, how would you understand an answer?
If you can read well enough to understand an answer to you, you can read well enough to read the effin thread.

Yeah, they should just through all the money from the players at the servers and then maybe they'll suddenly work again.
Obviously something is screwy; we'll just have to wait. I'm not thrilled about it myself, but patches in any MMO don't usually go smoothly, it's not like CCP is doing a poor job here. I'm not a tech person and I can't code to save my life, but even I can understand he concept of unforseen consequences when you're talking about coding.
....That being said, I don't think, what... forty-odd minutes since it went down qualifies as "momentarily". Just sayin'.

They don't need to answer everyone's questions. Just have an intern post somethign like "hey, looks like it will be doen for about an hour/day/week".
Takes two seconds to do, they could even train a monkey to do it.
Instead we are always kept "momentarily" in the dark.

Perhaps the reason is that it doesn't help the situation to read people whining about CCP doing this or that. When in fact they are doing a pretty good work to supply us with a really nice sandbox to play in. This kinds of complex system is really hard to troubleshoot. Especially if the servers goes down unexpected. Hopeful they have pretty good logs, but even then there happens so much things so that there can be really hard to find the answer why it went down. So they have the option to start up the server, and it will crash again. or they can try to find the fault and fix it. Which will take some time. How long time? Well that is something that the stars will tell us....

It always seems that the best way to respond to whiners is to not. Then you get a thread cluttered with not only whiners but all the pointless replies trying to talk sense into the whiners. The ironic bit is that the replies are usually worse than the originals. Just ignore silliness and the thread would be half as long and it'd be a lot easier to see something useful when, theoretically, it comes around! Cheers all! :)

Then tell us WHY are you not playing WoW? Eve is not WoW or any other MMOG. Eve is by far the best MMOG I found there. Not the best background or the best concept. Eve has the best Customersupport and the fastes dev-crew.
Just for some not fit in coding: 1. Find the bug. Its not easy as it could hit the server a one place but hiding in some other place. 2. Find a fix/workaround for the bug. 3. Code it and install it. Check for incompatibilities. 4. Get the server back up and test it as good as possible. 5. Open the server for public.
each of this steps will take a while ... and unless they are at step 3 no estimation may be done to the extension of the downtime.
Well keep on whining as I like to be entertained but keep other games out of this system.

Well, had a day off work today due to illness. Tad annoying with the ext. downtime, and also for the bug fix, but these are to be expected. My love for EVE has not changed one iota. These things happen.
Also, I got EVE running on Gentoo today, thanks to CCP for the Linux client! I can stop running it thru Wine now ^-^ I'm hoping it's going to be quicker than in Vista :-\
Overall, a tad irked, but I suppose I should be resting to get over my illness rather than playing EVE ;)
Good luck with the patch, guys :)

Edited by: Judinous on 06/11/2007 18:54:28 It would be a good idea to write an installation instruction page for people not using an IDE with linux. I am using ubuntu server 7.04, and had to use the generic gentoo/slackware installation package. If the installation instructions are directed based on the OS accessing the page, this should be noted in case people are not using gnome/kde/xfce/whatever else is supported. Otherwise, it would be nice to have instructions for people using the other package types.

thats like saying "omg, didnt they test the space ship before sending it out?"
there is only one shot at certain things, you can do _certain_ tests and checkups, but they never amount to the same experience as the real thing(and therefore, certain bugs will only show when stuff goes live)

Like Microsoft?
Actually it is not so easy to test everything that can goes wrong in such complex system as online games or equivalent systems. Since I'm working as a Tester for a International software company that delivers high performance software. I do know how difficult and how long time it takes to test only a fraction of all the functionality.
So in my book, CCP are doing a really good work to have such a high quality in the system that they have.
P.S: Well actually I'm in, and the reason for that it is that my computer is inside and not on the outside of the house :-D D.S:

Example:

Bad example:
Nada, Zip, Zero... Then 50 minutes later "Sorry, sumthin happened... Jeez" Then 40 minutes later "Wow dude... It ain¦t workin" then a while later "Lets reboot......" Then a even longer while later "Err... Reboot again.."
Come on, post a post with details what¦s going on, and give us a realistic approximate how long it might take ffs.....
I had a beer when the DT started, as I had my faction shippie just agressed on a bad ass lvl 4 mission, currently I¦m on 3 liters+ and I¦m fearful I¦ll be to wasted to care by the time the Server goes up again...
Anyway¦s, if my shippie aint blown yet It ain¦t getting blown as It usually dissapears from space altogether after 15 minutes, so I¦ll just go on and keep on drinking, since it don¦t matter anymore.... :/

Make sure you use Polar brand tuna, it's the only house-wife/non-institutional small can that actually gives you large chunks, everything else is soggy cat food.
However, you could just buy tuna steaks, grill it and chunk it yourself. ...way better.
I suggest adding celery to the salad btw.

For everyone, and this is almost reposting, eve is a pvp game which has the best anti pk system, because it emulates reality, which is what a beautiful game like eve makes a point of : you re playing in the future, yet its seems so plausible, and Fun XD

I'll label myself a carebear, but when I need to fight, I get in a ship and fight. I don't really enjoy PVP that much, but it's a necessity in a game that features a large and robust player-driven economy. Without it, all the game would be is "generic MMO in space". There's no challenge, there's no danger, there's no reason to play for more than a few months.
That said, I'm looking forward to the server being back up so that I can start a few more manufacturing runs... in the meanwhile I will wait patiently for CCP to fix whatever needs fixing.

Ok, just downloaded the patch and tried to install. Error message: bad timestamp, found 11 06 07, expecting 04 21 06. :( Installshield suggested reloading client. Did so, and now have error messages on almost all the files that say error on reading file. Unistalled and installed client 3 times. Still the same timestamp error. Checked clock and date on computer-shows correctly. Now what ?

Hello there :)
Being a Linux user at heart I reactivated my subscription for eve Yesterday ;) - Thanks transgaming and CCP for this step forward.
Unfortunatly there is an obstacles in my way that keeps me from enjoing eve. I am not able to change the screen resolution. When changing it ingame, the game crashes/ends. When i restart eve i see the same resolution of 1025x768 - having planned to enjoy eves full beauty on a full HD screen you can imagine that this is somewhat frustrating ;). When i add desktopWidth=1920 and desktopHeight=1020 to my prefs.ini those settings change nothing - eve starts with the sam old preferences again.
I am using Ubuntu 7.10.
Has anybody experienced this effect and/or maybe knows a workarround?
thank you :)

Am running the Windows version via Cedega on Ubuntu 6.06 (and no, this PC is NOT going to be moving to a newer version of Ubuntu for some months yet). All was running well this morning, but this evening, nada. The client doesnt appear to be connecting to the server, and Wine just sits in the background chewing up as much CPU as I'm not using, after the splash screen goes away...

The linux client is plagued with graphical errors. The game is absolutely not playable at all for me, or anyone else I've talked to who is trying to use it. I can't open the ingame menu to fiddle with the settings (well, it opens, but all you can see are a couple of characters and glitchy graphics). It also appears to be impossible to leave the window without using a keyboard shortcut to switch workspaces. Also, it often leaves zombie processes lying around after you close it. Aside from eating resources, they have to be manually killed before you can start the program again or else you get black screen/splash and crash.
To copy and paste a rant from the goonfleet boards:
the documentation was pretty ******* atrocious. they only had installation instructions for some of the packages. there was no readme or directions for the .tgz version at all. no man page written for the command (which is /usr/bin/eve, by the way. i had aliased a cxoffice instance to this and couldnt run it immediately), and though i saw during the install that you can feed it arguments, i can find no documentation on what they were or how to use them. also, if youre not using an IDE (and im not) then they dont mention that the configuration is added to any existing cedega install, and thats where you need to go to configure the emulation settings.

Anyone else have this problem.
I am running winXP here is the error I get when I hit connect agian.
"The client's local session information is corrupt, probably as a result of failed cleanup during a disconnect. Connecting to the server in this state could lead to a rather unpleasant game experience. Please restart the client prior to logging in."
I never even logged in.. Dunno any ideas guys?

I was hitting pirates, than i used chat a bit, and than after i closed chat i saw about 75% shield and almost gone armor and than structure. So i got my drake crashed having about 75% shield... Didnt knew npc pirates can hit armor and structure not touching shield...

Okay what you need to do is go into the Eve Online Configuration and change the window size under Configuration Options -> General -> Run in Window to the size you want. That sets the "Virtual desktop window" that eve runs in in Cedega. You may also want to turn off DXGrab if you run it in a window and not full resolution.
Fyi. The windows version patched and runs just fine in Wine v. 0.9.46 The cedega version is pretty much the same. There are a few graphical glitches with some bitmaps in both. I did have the Cedega in the test version lock the keyboard up and had to ssh in and kill it. I believe that with wine you should be able to get it to run with an ATI card, but I dont own one to test it, got fed up with their crappy drivers in the past.

When using the MacOS client, the game will freeze if you attempt to select multiple mail senders and attempt to delete them. One at a time works fine, but otherwise it'll freeze the client requiring a force-quit.

I'm having a really irritating problem with the linux client. I can get it to run, log in, and get into the game just fine. Unfortunately the game process seems to sit on one of my two CPU cores showing 100% use while the other sits at zero, then whenever i move the camera around or do anything really, the process seems to jump to the other core. The core that was at 100% suddenly drops to zero and the other core spikes to 100%, this causes a terrible stall and makes the game totally unplayable for anything other than maybe changing a skill (at least i can do that). I did have this problem when running the old windows client in cedega, but i was able to resolve the issue by forcing it to a single core using taskset. Taskset now has no effect, i can only assume it's due to the 'eve' binary i run spawning some other process which no longer obeys the restriction to a single core, but so far my investigations have not found anything that helps.
Does anyone else have this problem? Any ideas? Send halp! |

Okay here's my info on the Mac client:
1) When firing it up, the 'server status unknown' hangs around for a long time. Eventually it does get it "right".
2) Lack of being able to set it to windowed mode in the graphics setup pane = fail. Having to cmd-enter it all the time = teh suck.
3) During play, the graphics tend to stutter at times. No apparent reason. Running this on a macbook pro with ati x1600 card.
4) Odd crashes and hangs. At times the client will lock itself up solid, and if this happens in full screen mode there's no other option than to power off the macbook -- this is extremely sucky.
5) Complete lack of documentation on where the EVE client manages to park itself and it's preferences. Fail.
Oh, yeah..
#4 seems to be either related to running fullscreen, or having your home directory FileVaulted (which I have, I'm paranoid like that). After a little digging expedition to find the prefs/cache folder, I moved it outside my homedir and symlinked it. Things seem to work now without crashing.
Overall: nice that a mac client is available, but it still has too many issues to be called stable. QA didn't do their jobs on this one.

I do agree, Mac client is sucky, as any emulated program tend to be.
4) Option+Cmd+Esc will kill any active application, fulscreen or not. It won't work in extreme cases, when OS is locked up itself (unlikely the case).
5) 99% of apps keep their preferences in ~/Library/Preferences/. EVE on Mac is no exception.
And it "parks itself" at whatever place you drag it to (i.e. /Applications/).

As others has pointed out, it would be best with pure linux/mac client, not just windows eve-online client in a package with Cedega, but I am happy to no longer need to boot into windows to play. yes, i could use wine, its a great software, just could not get it to work, problem detecting my graphic card, even when I installed/copied dll files from a directx9 cab file.

Hi,
I am using ubuntu/gutsy. I have an ATI Radeon X1650 video card with ATI's 8.42.3 driver. This is a completely useless setup for eve. I can only run the client in 1024x768. I cannot change any settings, because after I change a setting then click the close window button, the computer interprets that command as crash eve client and reset the os screen resolution to 1024x768. If I click the undock button, that apparently has been reprogrammed to mean undock pilot, warp pilot to some unknown point in space, crash eve client then force end user to log onto to eve with a Windows client then dock pilot.

I like how it now says "pause skill training" rather than "abort skill training". I'm sure that will save a lot of noobs worrying over their skill points. Kudos to whoever thought of it.

the only thing that you guys missed is the ability of the client to store more than 4 account names at login screen. not like all of us have 5 accounts, but i do!

Originally by: Bahubali lag is less with this patch, but getting frequent disconnection.
I don't know about the lag being less but I have also been having disconnect problems. There is the possibility my machine/router/isp is the problem but this has only started occuring since the patch, never had disconnect problems before. The timing is certainly coincidental.
