This game has potential if the vets just sit back and accept changes. Interactive toons add a new gameplay into the world. One day, we could have FPS boarding parties raiding ships and that is as close as you can get with role playing space pirates. Isn't that awesome? --------- Technica impendi Caldari generis. No! FPS boarding parties, you can't be serious. Oh, Lord. Counter Strike in space. Hell the kill boards are worse enough but this... this is just comical. |

Originally by: Bolt Zapper My point was simply that if you're in either the first or second category then EVE may not seem like the ideal option as it tries to achieve both these things at once rather catering exclusively for what interests you.
Which is how game development as always worked. If youre a PVPer then exploration or mining content wont cater to you, same applies the other way around.
New features rarely, if ever cater to the entire game population, if you dont like internet walking then you dont have to use it, stick to being a spaceship.
Being a spaceship however is one of the major turn off points for a lot of players coming from diffrent MMO's, pretty much every single one allows you to create a character and dress him/her the way you want to, yet in eve there is nothing that sets you apart from the next guy, even char pics these days are starting to look quite similar.
CCP is opening a new market, which means more people to pew pew for those who want to stick to the internet spaceship stuff
Not to mention internet walking is only the basis, i hope that one day conquering space stations will be done on the inside, by blowing other peoples brains all over the wall behind him. Thatd be epic -----

I believe this sort of move is an excellent idea. I'm tired of games always "fixing" things while I'm already playing. If it needed fixing, or more added to it, I would've quit already and found the next game with all that stuff. That said, I think not enough games actually ADD content. Face it, it's usually all filler. If they didn't do ambulation, and they instead released 200 new ships and 50 new mods - would that really make eve much better? --

Jenny, I understand all this. I just don't see how this will help RP, when CCP can already REVIVE RP with current tools. You can call me Claude.
It adds some atmosphere. If I wanted to roleplay a pilot, I'd like to live like a virtual pilot ingame. And big part of it are the things that happen on station before and after flying a ship like meeting people, talking to them, making plans, maybe a briefing with mates. Meeting someone in (virtual) person on a station is just something else than seeing like 20 icons in your local list.
So yes, if not too many whiny pvp-haters get attracted and CCP loses their track, then I think ambulation improves the athmosphere a lot. I don't play this game as a real time sim like others, but because it's a virtual universe, where I can play a virtual pilot in a roleplay sense, although I'm no hardcore roleplayer. ( I don't like to prepare/plan roleplay like others do it. I just want to play my virtual pilot, how it comes into my mind and see, what happens. )

In the presentations on this they (CCP) did say that it was to attract a larger market. And why not? Some of those will get immersed into industry/exploration and invention, others will go the way of the pew pew and some will quite happily hang around stations.
One of the most interesting announcements made that I haven't seen any comments on are the possibilities of rank/corp/alliance insignia on uniforms. Uniforms would be pretty much limited as they have a clear idea on the "look" they want people to have, no neon pink trouser suits lol, but might warrant customization so yeah, insignia looks good.

The are building the stuff anyways so they figured they would bolt it onto eve for some fun free stuffs for us all. Dont get why so many people are complaining. Surely you dont think its a bad thing if subscriber numbers rise? or if you have something free you can play with when bored?

Although perhaps I am equivocating your point, perhaps you missed theirs as well.
IsnĘt Eve about finding your alter ego? Except for a few crazy people that Eve may have, as every group seems to get one or two, I donĘt honestly think anyone playing the game would shoot me at the check out line at the local market and run away with the pot roast. Certainly not the -10 pirate friend of mine who is quite a sweet lass, even if she does treat others pods like play things.
Agreed this is a new direction for Eve, a shift in approach, but such things are required to gain new markets. If more players lead to more hardware and more developers and make the game better, then good. I donĘt think CCP wants to loose the artistic integrity (and I donĘt just mean eye candy,) of Eve at all, that seems pretty clear. So long as that integrity is maintained, I donĘt think we have to worry about it.

if by that you mean they nueraly link you to your crew and control them agiast thier will using your willpower if you so chose, and by that mean you could control another human using your nueral uplinks in your pod and shoot someone else using that pawns body as your own...
then yes, eve could have FPS someday.

Won't happen because your clone is updated via the POD. Being killed outside your POD means your clone will not be updated.
The backstory has to be consistent so the FPS aspect if it is ever introduced, cannot have pod pilots shooting each other

Yes why not. Lets make it as simplistic as possible. Why don't we remove death penalties as well. Oh and maybe we should abolish PvP as well.
If you have nothing constructive to say, shut up.

I am very new to Eve, but I have so far quite enjoyed the game, and the gameplay. Its got a lot of long-term interest potential, but is also quite easy to get into from the start; There is so much variety in the gameplay (in that you have many many options starting from day one and continuing for most of the forseeable future). This is the core of the eve game; Do what you like.
But one thing that I thought, newbie that i am, is that it would be nice to get out of the ship once and awhile; and I'm sure players would like to leave their pods in an environment other than hard vacuum once in awhile, too :) If anything, it allows more social opportunity for players; its easier to meet an avatar or be introduced to a random when its a bit more human than a big shiny ship. Earth and Beyond allowed this, and it provided a nice place for players to get together IG. IT provides opportunity for role-playing, and perhaps would allow people to feel a little bit more like Characters than a simple 2d image at the top left of their screen.
They don't want to change the core game of eve, and it looks like they won't. Furthermore, its optional; you don't have to participate! And I'm sure a few diehard and set-in-their-ways veterans of the game will indeed take this route. Which is absolutely just fine; its nice to have a choice. Choice is the core of Eve gameplay!
One thing that might be interesting would be deuls, or some kind of 'fake' combat permissable on station, though. Nothing that actually effects the game; players would only gain/lose bragging rights and/or a little pride. Also, you'd think there should be some dangers too. After all, You walk around in a seedy station in a .0 system and you should expect there to be some dangerous characters about, and a player should feel like they have to be on their guard.
