Hey I wouldn't post links to that. I'd play Black Propehcy if it was released. Looks like a total rip off of EvE, but it still looks nice.

It's about time EVE got some similar competition.
All the others are either PvE, Roleplay or consist of drawfs and spells, with i can officially say none of which tickle my fancy.
Bring on something similar gameplay wise and im game :D Duncan Bannatyne

Hmm Black Prophecy, a spaceship MMO game where lasers actually are useful?
Anyhow it looks rather intresting, though time will tell which one lasts out.

It kind of sucks though doesn't it. Because it probably means less people are going to play EvE. It's already a small amount who are online.
Still, if these guys are cheaper/buy and play games, then I may get them just to test them out. Are there any release dates on them?

Edited by: Tamayo on 13/11/2007 14:25:19 It's good to see that other 'space based' MMO's are in development. Although "Earth and Beyond" didn't do very well...
But, it will be at least 2 to 3+ years before either of these make it to the market, if they ever do...
...and who knows what EVE will be like 2 to 3 years from now

[Whine Mode] If there last 6 months has been anything to go by then we'll all be stuck in frigates with absoluetely no differences and have concential PVP. [/Whine Mode] Duncan Bannatyne

Infinity will not be ready for at least 3-4 years, if ever. I dont know about black prophecy either. It didnt seem like they had a lot of info on their site so its probably many years until that one is ready for release as well.
I wish them luck, but i doubt ccp has much to fear for now Your signature exceeds the maximum allowed filesize of 24000 bytes -Kreul Intentions ([email protected]) |

All that we do know is that CCP will allow Amarr pilots to transfer their SP to another race, before deleting the Amarrian Empire from eve!

I just hope CCP don't start acting like Valve. CCP: "Oh yeah, Trinity will be out in 2 weeks" 2 week later Players: *Browsing website* "Now, lets see here... someone wreck hits for 1000 damage, big fleet war, blah blah, Trinity delayed...
WHAT!?! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"
2 years later Players: "******* finally. Any idea when next patch will be?" CCP: "A Couple Months" Players: "STFU"

Infinity is trying to bite off more then it can chew it seems to me. It's either will never be made or is many years off.
Black Prophecy uses shards and limits amount of players that can fight at the same time so is an instant loose for me.
But I agree that eve needs more competition. I admire greatly at what CCP has done. Eve isn't a small project by any means and CCP created something extraordinary. That said, no other game can get away with so many bugs and lag.

Star Trek Online is also a huge threat to Eve. It could launch next Christmas, but more likely it will slip.
As well as farting about in spaceships it will have walking in stations, planetry interaction and for the tiny minority that wants it, PvP.
And it is set in the Star Trek Universe. With big white starships and sexeh engineers.

Except it has no PvP, no possibility to play as a non-federation race. No multiple-crewed ships, and you can't even destroy ships. They just end up getting towed back to a station.
Just because a game has ships, or is scifi, does not automatically make it like Eve.
So in other words, it will take all the Trekkies, and that's about it.

Yeah, I think Black Prophecy looks like the main contender to me. It's the sexiest looking one anyway. How ever fl-tw has a bloody lot of features.

Every played a game by Reakktor? I used to play Neocron, and while it was good for a time it was also one of the most stagnant and badly managed MMOs I've ever played. PVP was utterly without point. Their games look great, but don't stand up to long term play.

I think infinity will get made however, as the devs seem to have a genuine passion for it / are treating it more than just a job. It needs to deal with the massive scope creep
However infinity isn't commercial enough. It is some indy game some guys are making in their basement/garage from what I can see. Might take off and be huge but more likely flop not from being a bad game, but from poor marketing. Most businesses go under not for being unprofitable but for cash flow problems?

Black Prophecy looks like a hardcore "PEW PEW" version of X3: Reunion. And I agree with Blinky, PVP in Neocron was horrible.
Infinity looks more like a hobby project than anything. But hey, who knows because at one point in time, CCP were in the same boat.

of the above mentioned i only await infinity.
but that one... if it only can half of what is promised atm, i'm pretty sure TQ will have no lag problem ever again. then again, its years away, so alot of time for CCP to evolve into a universe of equal proportions (is that a correct english word???), so we'll see

Indeed. I'm about 90% carebear, and a Star Trek fan, and I would never go near that game. It really looks like WoW in space.
WoW in space is probably dead-on...
Star Trek Online will be another MMO marketed to the masses...designed to appeal to the 'casual' and 'PvE' players of all ages. Basically, log in and press the 'easy' button...
And then let us not forget the infinite (ad nauseam) variations of the name 'James T. Kirk' that people will name their characters...
