Are there any? Never seen one, is there anything in the backstory about it? Everything seems to be gas giants or rocky moons.

well in our WHOLE galaxy we only have one.
in eve there are maybe.... 20? 29? (completely made up off the top of my head)
the rest are gas and rock and junk
pator is the dirty minmatar planet :)
but yeah keep an eye out they are there. and hopefully in the eve planets expasion this will be much different and important to the game!

and even then there are other planets like mars where someone could live, it would just suck, but I'm sure that the matar slave mine planets are much different than mars :) so are we talking can be lived on planets? or green grass blue sky planets?

Lets look at the numbers shall we, in the Milkyway we have [inset really really really large number] stars. Now in our solar system we have earth, a planet very earthy like planet, in a sense. Now we also know that Mars once had oceans. Point is that around our sun, two planets looks like earth or used to look like earth. You get the point, I hope. Futher more regarding other planets outside our solar system. Yes we have found a few [inset hmm a guess of around 20ish] planets. Now we can't really see them but we can see their gravity effect on the star they are orbiting. So making conclusions regarding their appreance and whether they look like earth or not, is pretty much impossible. '

Considering That there are hardly any known planets outside our own solarsystem sol. I'd say you're jumping the vagon prematurely. There are somewhere between 200 and 400 BILLION stars in the Milky way alone. Even if only a small fraction of these 200billion stars have planets the chances of at least a few of them are earthlike are rather high.

Actualy it is sort of posible to do. A few of them have been idendified as gasious planets. This was done by various means but the main idea behind it is that when they are so big that we can actualy see them (on the infrared or other none visual wave lenght) and their mass (read gravitational pull on the star they orbit compaired to the estimated stars size) is relatively small then they cannot posibly be made of a solid substance or at least not for a large part as they would have to be much heavier in that case.
At least one team claims that they found a planet that could posibly contain liquid water... but then again there is still quite a bit of discussion about that at present.

There is a big difference betwen messuring something and seeing. But you are right we think they are gasious planets. Because of their size, you see the luminans of the star drops [inset very very small number *10^-(something)] when the unknow planet is in front of it. And big planets normaly are gasious, and have large masses. But again its all guess work based on what we can see in our own solar system.

my point was that if we can see out say into 20 stars and see no other planets well then in eve one could say that it's it's one planet for every 20 star systems which would mean that eve had 250 planets.
in a round about way was trying to point out why they were rare to come across in eve, I wasn't saying that there are no other planetslike earth in the universe.
I mean... duh, there is. I don't care what anyoe says, there are other planets out there, it's impossible for there not to be. We just can't detect them because of their low mass. By the early 2010s we should be able to detect Extrasolar planets with a similar mass as earth. My 2cents

actually the number of known planets outside our system is well over 200 and growing fast. to date these have been jovian or superjovian types simply because they were the easiest to detect and as such their characteristics are easy enough to figure. we are now starting to be able to detect the smaller worlds like earth. we have just discovered a jovian in the "habitable" zone which means it's likely that it has moon(s) and if so they can have liquid water on their surfaces. give us another decade or so and we'll be far better able to estimate how many worlds and what types there are out there.

I was wondering the same thing lol. I dont think we could see planets that small from here even if we did look evrywhere tbh, all the planets have seen anything about them discovering have been huge gas giants, and they cant even SEE those. Back to eve, i suspect that when the holy grail of planetry interaction comes along alot of those brown planets are gonna magically turn green and blue :)

The only one I've seen so far besides New Caldari Prime is a planet in Vouskiaho, pretty blue and green and all that, makes a nice background while mining

I've seen at least half a dozen blue-green-white planets that appear to be Earth-like, and as many more that look like giant spherical cities. ---

I would like to add that a majority of these planets have been detected in orbits that are very close to their suns. So, the theory of the "Goldie Locks" zone has been put upside down.

They're fairly heavily urbanized, however, so their default texture isn't totally blue and green like you might expect. If you get behind them, however, on their "night side" you can see the city lights.  -----

Now you make perfect sense ;) I think it would be a blast living Mars! As long as they'd give me a good internet connection (using some alien technology for super transfer speed), built me a cinema and supplied me with several lifetime subscriptions on various "mens" magazines. One thing though, but it could be me...
Do moons revolve around their axis at amazing speeds? When I undock I can clearly see the moon rotate around its axis, as if it only takes 10 minutes to do a full revolution. Could just be me though.

why are you talking about mars and not venus? (which is just a tiny bit smaller than earth)
because in the 60's (or so) scientist discovered the venus athmosphere is extreamly hot and toxic. thats why movies started to use aliens from mars instead of earth's sister planet venus 
if you take out one planet in our solar system, it colapses in just a few hundred or thousand years, depending on which one you pic.
someone mentiond the habitable zone, thats very important. the distance to the sun has to be right, so it's not too hot and not to cold. but it doesn't work with just any sun. if the sun is small, the planet in the habitable zone start's syncronising the rotation, just like our moon or merkur do. with such a slow rotation the clima is very unfriendly, the planet gets heaten up on one side and cools on the other, which means big storms. and very long days and nights of course. if the sun is too big, the radiation is too big. and the star won't live long anyway, so theres no time for live to envolve.
85% of the suns in the galaxy are smaller than ours
if the planet is too small (like mars) the gravity isn't strong enough to hold the athmosphere.
it's beleved that the solar system needs a big fat tank like jupiter to stabilize things. it cleans out the rocks that could be dangerous. there are still a lot left in our sys, but it would probably be full of them if there would only be a little planet or tow like earth.
how solarsystems develop is also very important (this is a very hot topic in astronomy at the moment). a lot of suns are not born 'single', but twins or more. it's belived that it's not possible to have stable orbits in such a system (which is kind of important.. you wouldn't like some hundred degrees temparatur variations do you) the popular theory atm is that a solarsystem in the start isn't just a nebula that turns around one single point, but has multiple 'cores'. this results in twin suns. but if there are cores left after a sun or more has started its nuclear fusion, all the gas gets blown away, leaving the underdeveloped cores without material. that how giants like jupiter occur (scientist think they have to develop already in such an early stage, because there wouldn't be inoff time to gather all the gas when a sun starts burning (also, jupiter seams to be a very little giant, most plantes which where found outside the solarsystem are like 50 or more times bigger)) in computersimulations of this process the giants move towards the sun most times (don't know why), which isn't the case with jupiter.
The position of the star within the galaxy is also important. we are between the arms, not in one. in the arms are the big birthplaces of the galaxy, and there are alot of big stars. this means alot of supernovae, which means a lot of radiation (a supernova in >10 lj radius would be dangerous to us)
and there's more weird stuff about our solar system, like the materials it's made of doesn't fit the region we're in (to envolved stuff like uranium), so it might have been kicked out from the center of the galaxy or something.
with all this and probably more (with more accuart numbers ) its estimated there can only be a few such plantes in our galaxy, simply because of the probability.
but hey, there are still billions of galaxies out there

Back on topic: I've got about 8 planets bookmarked that are 'Earth-Like'. I'm really hoping that when the time comes for Planetary Interaction, these will be somehow special.
CCP: There are NO Earth-Like planets in the Drone Regions that I have found. That fact in itself tells me that the planets will be special. See, we Drone Regioners are used to getting the shaft. So when we DON'T see something that everyone else has, we know its something good.
