Replace the M with a B and you're much closer to the target. All those companies also have vastly more resources than CCP.

Edited by: Kalahari Wayrest on 19/11/2007 22:20:47 ...There's a bit of a fault to this line of questioning.
The idea that there are specific things that could be done to 'attract females' just makes so many assumptions, the main being that there is a one ideal you have of 'female players' that you form in your head initially before you think of things which might appeal to the imaginary 'her'.
Which is balls.
Turn the question around and you can see how silly it is.
What could you do to a game to get men to play it?
Now look at eve and consider how diverse it is, given your arguement assumes that by needing to attract females, it currently only attracts men (or is designed in that way) there is a plethora of different play styles at work - eve is dynamic and diverse and able to suit different types of players. I'd be unable to break it down really, given peoples 'roles' tend to overlap, but the game play is very varied and allows both peace and pewpew, cooperation and competiton, and all the space inbetween.
As such, there's no one idealized 'man' who plays eve, and the different roles players undertake are often competing and conflicting.
So why are you assuming theres one idealized 'female' who could be appealed to? Any attempts to 'target' females like this, and simplify them into one characteristic of 'femininity' (some great examples in this thread, females like decorating, the sims, nintendogs...) is misguided and patronising.
Leave eve the way it is. The players who like it will play it, the ones who don't won't. As for less women playing games than men, society I think, needs to change before that stigma is lost rather than the games attempting to feminize them to make women playing games more socially acceptable.
edit: the short version is, my problem with your question isn't that you aren't treating women the same as men, it's that you're suggesting all women are the same. __________________________ Indulge Me Consider Yourself Indulged - Immy ♥ Wow immy scored - Xorus

Finally. A good response. My boyfriend tried getting me to eve for months before I finally relented to just try the trial. I said there was no way I would like something like Eve.
I really like Eve.

Edited by: Dr Paithos on 19/11/2007 23:12:43 Eve will have more women playing when there aren't ******** threads like this made every week
Seriously if girls wanted to hang out with a load of acne-ridden guys with aspergers they'd go volunteer to work with the disabled
The number one thing you could all do to "attract girls to eve lol" is to shut the hell up

I take offence in you stating that aspergers is a grave disability, and I also dislike the tone in which you use it. My girlfriend is a so called aspergers, and I happen to love her still. There's nothing bad with it once you can handle it.

For one thing it stops people from refering to you as 'he' all the time. Even if you play a female character they still do it. If you are a guy and play a male character and your friends in game would refer to you as 'she' all the time i'm sure you'd tell them that you're a 'he' in fact without trying to advertise anything.
I gently correct any player that assumes that I am a gender other than what my portrait displays. It doesn't bother me when it happens.
I am particularly fond of being called "dude" I usually ask that the player interject "ette" as a suffix next time.
"Hey Bro" is another favorite.
I prefer not to know the "true" gender of player. If I know and it is different from what their portrait displays I still tend to address them according to what I see in their portrait anyway.
I would like to commend the male population of EVE. I have played for 6 months and have never been disrespected because of my gender or had to deal with anything vulgar or sexually innappropriate.
Thanks "GUYS"

Um. I would feel really weird if the guys I fly with weren't vulgar or sexually inappropriate, because then I'd know they were being different and out of their element because I was there! I do put my face into my hands a lot but they make me laugh.
