I'm not sure that 5-hour mandatory ops with 300 man gangs which end in you watching the slideshow of your ship being destroyed is an attractive play-style.

I'm in 0.0 to blow my fellow players' **** up indiscriminately. I think all of you in highsec are nuts, spending hours and hours blowing the same pixel clusters up so your imaginary money builds up, allowing you to buy a better internet spaceship to blow up the same no-challenge AI controlled time sinks marginally faster. Any actual engagements are constrained by the ridiculous safety blanket of CONCORD. You might get a good fight here and there, but they're few and far between. Everything is so bloody consensual and rarely possesses any notable element of difficulty. What's the challenge in that? Where's the struggle, the competition, the excitement? Why would I even play if my experience lacked these aspects? Of course nullsec is a massive ISK sink, it's in a chaotic downward spiraling cycle of unending warfare as massive (and for that matter, insignificant) entities fight for their right to exist out here. We're here because we like that environment.

That's rather narrow minded of you. Eve is a game that offers reward in many different areas. 0.0 is just one aspect of the game. The risk may be your reward but may not be anothers. For me the reward is killing other people. I dont find the risk that much fun tbh.

No, I don't.
I despise POSs and everything that comes with them. Those who say that missions or mining is a grind, look around, POSs are THE GRIND. It's like having a second job ffs. A job to take care of them, and the job to blow them up. For me CCP dropped the ball tremendously here. No, tell me how many 0.0 ops don't look like:
waiting 30 min to 2 hours for a gang to be kicked off now, those 30 man travel 40 jumps to kill a ratter here and there meet a bigger/stronger gang... wtf zomg, we got pwned wake up at station or return home after spending 3 hours and killing 5 ships when everyone is so eager to lock them so he gets on the killmail
small scale skirmishes are dieing because there's too many powerblocks (one of them is especially known for that) that prefer to fight with the blob because they can't fight any other way

Most ppl in 0.0 pvp daily in small gangs.
Talking about 8-10 people.
So what if you meet a bigger gang? You kill as many as you can and have some fun.
The trick is to actually come with what you can afford to lose, rather than saying "zomg its a bigger gang, I dont wanna lose my HAC, run!" then they kill you 1 by 1 trying to logoffski.

Indeed I do - much as I expected. This time you've proved my point further by trying to imply that I am somehow playing the game 'wrong'. That seems to be two of my points proven correct. Would like to try for three in one post next time?

I have a small Corp (5-6 young players) in 0.0 and we rat and run from pirate gangs and killers. We rat salvage and then transport the loot to empire for quick sale. I guess we could make more money in empire, and the mindset of some alliances is very very annoying. The NBSI silliness that means neutral is bad is just an excuse to kill people. But the longer we have stayed the better we do at avoiding these pitfalls. We can fight off some of them, but the gank squads eventually get you from time to time.
Joining the local alliance powers would help, but i just don;t want to loose our indipendenance
Still my young members see the big $$ of empire and wonder if they should move out. Perhaps if local 0.0 powers were more welcoming and relazied that auto killing everybody they see is just depressing there region
If you are a pirate you want lots of quarry to choose from, so if you shut down 0.0 with random and purposeless gate camps and kill a bunch of shuttle scouts, you really aren;t helping the pirate profit margin.
Also non pirate powers should provide services targeted to general commerce and allow neutrals to ply their trade with their protection or at least their blessing. This will grow the population of traders and allow more active trade in 0.0 and reduce the incentive to haul everything to empire for the quick buck.
Murder and crime is bad for business, even the pirate business.

I somewhat agree. 0.0 is difficult to get into if you are a small corp without an established 0.0 allaince or alot of friends.
Without blue allies, moving around in 0.0 and avoiding the bubbles / camps is tough. At least everytime I've gone in everyone just shoots me on sight

Edited by: Commander Prishe on 19/11/2007 15:53:15 I want to experiance the entire game. I have been playing for 4 months now and havent really left empire yet, but have been in low sec quite a few times mainly for cosmos.
Every time ive entered low sec ive always lost my ship at a gate camp 1x drake, 1x raven and 1 x navy raven (wish I scouted first lol). I have only been on the reciving end of PVP so far by getting ganged up on by 5+ ships as I enter another system (which has put me off low sec or wanting to go to 0.0 untill I have more sp).
I Do plan to enter 0.0 allaince space when I am ready, with enough isk saved, a freighter, carrier or dreadnought skills, PoS modules, this will probably be around the 20 million SP mark.
I am in no rush to enter 0.0 as this is a looooong game. It is a good idea to stay in empire space for the begining of your eve life as you get increased sp accumulation from using more expensive implants, your assets and isk build up faster, your empire standings increase which will be usefull for factional warefare.
I also dont have any interest in flying smaller ships for pvp (maybe when I have T2 HAC skills I will feel diferantly), I am mostly only interested in flying ships from BS size upwards so I need isk saved up to support this hobby in 0.0.

The only reason I'm not in 0.0 yet is (a) I'm not yet good enough and (b) I can't afford to lose too much yet. Point (b) I'm almost to the point of taking care of, even more so next month. Point (a), well, next month I'll be testing out my covert ops ship. Hopefully I'll be able to sneak around a bit at least. The other main thing keeping me out of 0.0: I don't have any 0.0 friends yet, and I don't see the point of going there just to be ganked at the first gate I come across and donate my corpse to the nearest alliance.
Actually, now that I think about it, I think the biggest thing keeping me out of 0.0 at the moment are those darn warp scramble bubbles, or whatever you call them. I understand their necessity at being able to protect the borders of your space, but at the same time they leave a semi-new player with little to no incentive to go get squashed with no chance. Part of the reason for my covert ops ship. Hopefully I'll at least have a chance. :)

You're ship cost much more than my battleship, so I'm happy.
On topic: 0.0 is for PVP and Alliance warfare. Empire is for Market, Manufacturing and Logistics. I spent my first year in Empire, and the last 2 in 0.0. I won't go back to Empire cuz in 0.0 I can build an Empire of my own.
Those who think 0.0 is 'oh well I'm dead' have got it wrong. We're so secure that I can spend an entire day in a system without seeing ANYONE, and weeks without a hostile. 0.0 is not dangerous...its MOVING BETWEEN 0.0 and Empire that is dangerous.
I challenge the 'Risk vs Reward' to show higher gains in Empire for the vast amount of activities. 0.0 allow me to make isk at rates that my initial Empire corp could never match.

I think you realize that statistically there are more "unskilled" players than there are skilled ones. And if we are going into "bring more" mentality we will eventually get a lagfest where whoever brought more "any" players wins.
This is a totally different topic, but may be, advanced skills should be more rewarding, so that lvl 5 advanced skill (i.e. HAC lvl 5, Large Artillery Specialization lvl 5) should give significantly increased bonus or open a new Advanced specialization tree with more bonuses (but that would add even more skills to train so former proposal may be better). This way ppl would care about bringing quality, not quantity.

Edited by: Cireg on 19/11/2007 17:31:27 There are several things that would encourage me to head into 0.0 space.
1. Expand it ALOT! 0.0 if supposed to wildlands, all they are now is isk-farming grounds, where the pipelines are being blocked by gatecamps. I would like 0.0 to be a vast wilderness, where there could perhaps be very small "islands" of empire space. Also, making the current empire space disconnected of eachother. You wanna go from Amarr to Gallente, you have to go through 0.0 space. Also, 0.0 space would have dangerous(gasp!) npc's and perhaps even npc gangs, so you are in danger not only from a gazillion motherships and carriers, but also from the environment.
2. The political climate needed to change. I am so fed up with the current political situation, where everybody and their mum are on one of the two sides. And any small knit of friends would have to join crappy alliance X, that promises the world, but in reality a bloated failure of discommunication, in order to get out into 0.0 space. Because god forbid that the "elite" and established alliances and corps out there actually bothered to encourage newer players to come to 0.0 space. A large universe would perhaps aswell prevent smaller alliances from being pets of larger alliances. I want to be part of an alliance that has earned our own space, not just coattailing whichever thousand alliance is on top of the game this time of year.

You see, 0.0 alliances are typically about absolute uncontested territorial control. They ally temporarily with one another, but in the end it is all about sovereignty. Which doesn't just mean your name in the top left corner of the screen, but means that everyone who passes through, everyone who rats, mines, blows stuff up, does so with your express permission, or marks themselves as an enemy.
Naturally this is just an ideal, and it never works just this way, but that is what alliances stand for. Those who have enough power or are clever enough (which itself is a power) can work out deals, but at the end of the day, for most alliances, there is no such thing as "neutral." Either you are part of a friendly alliance that acknowledges sovereignty, or you are an enemy.
As well, alliances increasingly deal only with other alliances. Look at the sovereignty maps, there are so many entities there that keeping track of smaller corporations simply isn't feasible. So you just say "Wanna have relations? Get in an alliance or create one, and we'll work out standings."
As for myself, I would rather live as an industrialist in lowsec, where I can more easily sell capital modules and ships to others, yet have access to the mineral markets of highsec. I definitely don't want to be trapped 30+ jumps out because my alliance accepted a constellation to call home way out of the way.
