Quote: I have used Hardin in at least two other MMOG.
The name comes from a character in Isacc Asimov's Foundation series (a great read for anyone into Sci-Fi).
I picked Hardin as I liked the character and his quotes including:
* "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent."
* "Nothing has to be true, but everything has to sound true."
* "It pays to be obvious, especially if you have a reputation for subtlety." * "A fire-eater must eat fire even if he has to kindle it himself."
* "To succeed, planning alone is insufficient. One must improvise as well." * "Only a lie that wasn't ashamed of itself could possibly succeed."
He was the First Mayor of Terminus, and owner of the Terminus City Journal. He became dissatisfied with the isolationist policies of the Encyclopedia Trustees at a time when the Periphery was becoming increasingly fragmented politically and economically.
After siezing power in a bloodless coup, Hardin steered the Foundation towards a measure of security through playing the interests of the neighbouring Kingdoms against one another, and enabled a smooth transition from pseudo-scientific backwater to a fully-functioning society in its own right.
Fantastic books I have to agree. But you missed one of Hardins quotes (unless you just don't like it) - its in my sig
Anyway I chose Durandal after playing the Marathon games on the Mac way back. Excellent games, fps with a plot that was brilliant, and imho better than doom and doom II. Durandal was one of three AI's on the ship Marathon, although he was a little unstable to say the least. He eventually becomes a hero of sort taking control of the ship and kicking the Phfor's collective asses, and stealing one of their battleships (altho he does effectively kidnap the main character).
For anyone that is even the least bit interested you can find more about the story and Durandal here : Marathon Story

Quote:
Quote: In the twenty-ninth century, the universe of the Human Hegemony is under threat by the rebel Ousters and the schemes of the secessionist AI TechnoCore. Seven citizens set out on a pilgrimage to the planet, Hyperion. There, the fabled Time Tombs seem about to reveal their secrets. But Hyperion is home also to the Shrike, part god and part killing machine, whose powers are said to transcend space and time. The seven have been chosen by the Church of the Shrike to travel on what may prove to be a final pilgrimage. While en route, the travellers, like another fabled group of pilgrims, share their stories on why they are on the journey.
Well worth digging into for those who loves a good read.
Oh yes, I love stories.

Quote: Edited by: Rod Blaine on 05/03/2004 09:55:37 Mine's from a well known science fiction novel.
I think the original english title is 'the moot in god's Eye'. Dunno for sure, I read it in Dutch.
Can't remember the author's name off the top of my head, but im sure some of you know him.
Rod Blaine is a somewhat anti-heroical ship captain that by coincidence get's to be the first to make contact with Alien lifeforms in a distant future. It ends up getting totally out of hand of course
Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle, "The Mote in God's Eye". One of the best scifi duo's ever :) There is a sequel called "The Moat around Murcheson's Eye" if you are, on the gripping hand, interested
John Rourke, protagonist of "The Survivalist" series written by Jerry Ahern. 29 books long. The guy survives anything and everything by being generally brill and a solid stand up guy. He never met Moo in the books though

Ertai is a Wizard from Magic The Gathering. Vodalian is related to Merfolk in Magic - so i slightly changed it to Vodalion which sounds great imo...
All that is related to the Colour Blue in Magic - water-elemental and illusionary Magic.
thought the illusionary part would fit for a gallentean Trader aswell ;)

My name is a result of me mashing the numbers on my cellphone, in an attempt to send a text message to a friend of mine's phone, via the infrared port.
That, and the fact that all the other names i tried were already taken. ___________________________________

Chimaero Marcellus

Quote: I wanted something frenchy so I went with one of the french revolution masterminds, something-something Danton and then since I couldn't get creative with my surname due to restrictions in the name generator I went with my favorite movie gladiator trainer/druglord Marcellus.
Not being very imaginative upon creation I'm a wee bit embarassed now and again when I come across real good names but then some of you cross my path and I feel I did good after all.
Creepy how we have the same last name :P. I came up with this name based on Chimaera, the mythical savage beast which had the body of three creatures(no, not from MI2 - this was before that) and masculinized it, henceforth Chimaero. Marcellus is a latin last name that has relations to being a master of battle.
