Demandred is by my favorite character of any book series (which in this case is the Wheel of Time series...) his heart is in the right place. Anyway, If you read the big white book on WoT history, you learn that Bared Bel'Medar was second best at everything with the Forces of the Light but number one after he went over to the Dark One. After he left, he became debateably a better general than even the Dragon. So thats the history of my character's name... I want to know what motivated trigger to nae a character trigger.

So I took the surname of my favourite football player and reversed it. Thus, from Lucas Radebe, was Ebedar named

The Taiidani Ion Beam Frigates were nicknamed "Sajuuk Cor".. which roughly translates into "God's Wrath". Sounded like a great character name to me. Apparently Relic felt the same.. they used it 3 years later in Homeworld 2

Edited by: Entity on 05/03/2004 03:41:08 Entity for a lot of reasons :)
In no particular order: - Featured in Star Trek TNG (Crystaline Entity). - Relation to computer science (3D entities, HTML entities, etc). - Take the vowels out and you get NTT, the shorthand notation, which is pronounced almost the same as the original. - With certain fonts in bold face, writing eNTiTy sticks the NTT together using the dot on the i. - Can me made a nice logo, as "ENTITY" pretty much has the characters lined up damn well to be connected together. - Dictionary meaning, a lifeform. It doesn't say much about that particular lifeform tho, which I like.
Prolly some more reasons I forgot about, but as you can see, I feel this name totally fits me :-)

Viqer Fell was a character I created a long time ago in error. He was originally supposed to have been called Viper but for some strange reason i misclicked the mouse, didn't notice and Viqer was born. Fell came about cause I liked the phonetics and Fell sorta implies a dark mysteriousness to the character. It was not meant in the "he fell over sense".

Can't remember the author's name off the top of my head, but im sure some of you know him.
Rod Blaine is a somewhat anti-heroical ship captain that by coincidence get's to be the first to make contact with Alien lifeforms in a distant future. It ends up getting totally out of hand of course _______________________________________________

Hardin

I have used Hardin in at least two other MMOG.
The name comes from a character in Isacc Asimov's Foundation series (a great read for anyone into Sci-Fi).
I picked Hardin as I liked the character and his quotes including:
* "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent."
* "Nothing has to be true, but everything has to sound true."
* "It pays to be obvious, especially if you have a reputation for subtlety." * "A fire-eater must eat fire even if he has to kindle it himself."
* "To succeed, planning alone is insufficient. One must improvise as well." * "Only a lie that wasn't ashamed of itself could possibly succeed."
He was the First Mayor of Terminus, and owner of the Terminus City Journal. He became dissatisfied with the isolationist policies of the Encyclopedia Trustees at a time when the Periphery was becoming increasingly fragmented politically and economically.
After siezing power in a bloodless coup, Hardin steered the Foundation towards a measure of security through playing the interests of the neighbouring Kingdoms against one another, and enabled a smooth transition from pseudo-scientific backwater to a fully-functioning society in its own right.

The surname though comes from Richard Rahl out of Terry Goodkinds Sword of Truth series. Mainly chose Rahl because in the books Richard follows a set of ideals and morals about life that I have followed for years without realising it.
Anyone who has read the books knows what im talking about especially book 6 called "Faith of the Fallen". Recently found out that the philosophy is called "Objectivism". Anyone interested in it should look up an author called Aynn Rand. nuff said

Babs Johnson

[146]
Well. . .
Babs Johnson is the name used by drag queen Divine in John Waters' early 1970's cult film classic Pink Flamingos. Babs lives in a mobile home in the woods outside Baltimore with her friend Cotton, her delinquent son *****ers, and her morbidly obese mother, Miss Edie, who is so huge she spends all her time in a child's play pen in her underwear eating eggs. Miss Edie eventually marries the egg delivery man at Babs' birthday party.
Babs has moved her family to the woods to escape media attention after the tabloids bestowed upon her the title of "Filthiest Person Alive." Unfortunately for Babs, two jealous perverts, Connie and Raymond Marble also claim to be the Filthiest People Alive.
There is a scene involving *****ers, Cotton, and a chicken which disturbed me when I first saw it at the age of seventeen and still disturbs me today.
On the other hand, a foot fetish scene involving the Marbles is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
Another scene has Babs shoplifting a steak by hiding it between her legs under her dress and walking out of the butcher shop.
The film's plot, to the extent there is one, centers around the competition between Babs and the Marbles to be the filthiest people alive. Babs wins the competition by executing the Marbles after a trial attended by tabloid reporters, and then she seals her win by eating a dog turd on camera.
Well, you guys asked. . .

Zephrim was the name I used first in EQ as a Erudite Necromancer. After a change in my network fubar'd my EQ experience, I switched to AC. In AC on the Frostfell shard, Zephrim was a Sho Life Mage. Following to AC2 again on Frostfell, the Zephrim there was a decendant of the AC Zephrim and was a Ranger / Craftsman. Deciding AC2 was one big lie, I started EvE and used, naturally, Zephrim; now a Minmatar Miner / Tradesman. When / if I go to Dragon Empires I'll do the same thing provided I can get in early enough to use it.
Unfortunately, college and other RL sundries keep me out of the game world so often I never have time to make a name for him.
Well met.

Anyway I chose Durandal after playing the Marathon games on the Mac way back. Excellent games, fps with a plot that was brilliant, and imho better than doom and doom II. Durandal was one of three AI's on the ship Marathon, although he was a little unstable to say the least. He eventually becomes a hero of sort taking control of the ship and kicking the Phfor's collective asses, and stealing one of their battleships (altho he does effectively kidnap the main character).
For anyone that is even the least bit interested you can find more about the story and Durandal here : Marathon Story

Quote: In the twenty-ninth century, the universe of the Human Hegemony is under threat by the rebel Ousters and the schemes of the secessionist AI TechnoCore. Seven citizens set out on a pilgrimage to the planet, Hyperion. There, the fabled Time Tombs seem about to reveal their secrets. But Hyperion is home also to the Shrike, part god and part killing machine, whose powers are said to transcend space and time. The seven have been chosen by the Church of the Shrike to travel on what may prove to be a final pilgrimage. While en route, the travellers, like another fabled group of pilgrims, share their stories on why they are on the journey.
Well worth digging into for those who loves a good read.

Creepy how we have the same last name :P. I came up with this name based on Chimaera, the mythical savage beast which had the body of three creatures(no, not from MI2 - this was before that) and masculinized it, henceforth Chimaero. Marcellus is a latin last name that has relations to being a master of battle.

In game: The story of Meer is unknown. The first I can remember in my life is wakeing up in the medical hospital in the University in Bourynes. I was then told that I was found in the hulk of a ship by a scientific survey team in the middle of the Vapor Sea. They said I was dazed and kept mumbling the word Meer over and over. Meer is the only word I remember, everything else seems to have been wiped from my memory. Having no identity I took the word Meer as my name. As I build a new life my goal is to find out why exactly Meer is. Somewhere out there there is an answer and I will find it.

My name was taken from two previous characters I played in other games. In Earth & Beyond because my first two choices were rejected, I combined them: Thorion = Thor + Orion In EverQuest I played a female Dark Elf named Bralilie (computer generated, not of my making). When she earned the right of a surname, I gave her Mortisfiliae (Loosely: Mortis = Death; Filiae = Daughter) changed filliae to filius (son). Thorion Mortisfilius

Jade Constantine

[191]
So, Jade Constantine ?
Well, I did actually had a fairly complete character background worked out before generation ... my rl friends and I in Jericho had decided the type of corporation we wanted and the type of goals we were going after, and so as CEO, Jade had to fill a couple of important roles as spokesperson for a mercenary psychological warefare and public relations corp.
"Jade" is I think, a working name, because in terms of character background she was a bond-slave-courtesan for the Amarri empire, Sarum family, and a very accomplished practioner of the oldest profession. Some of my old background stuff tells of her rising up the ranks of Amarr servitor class for spying and intel gathering and finally winning freedom and a stake in the great game of politics by subverting a galfed espionage plot (with the aid of athule) and escaping with her life and freedom and newfound sensitivity to prevelent societal memetics. I admit I was influenced by the wonderful: Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey Which is the first book in a rather wonderful trilogy that mingles interesting sensual perspectives with high intrigue and lovingly described decadence.
I did my bit for carrying this off with the selection of social skills, high charisma, and Amarr ship technology, but I admit I may have got a bit too carried away with politics and the high profile PR game recently to play too much of the covert stuff. On that score the other major influences have been Neil Stephensons Diamond Age which is a fabulous take on technological capability to reshape the world and the wonderful Star Fraction by Ken Mcloud which explores revolutionary politics in the information age.
"Constantine" well, its always been a favourite name of mine, both for the amazing Hellblazer comic and cameos from Lady Johanna Constantine and of course the relevence to earlier british history and Arthurian mythology.
Here is another excellent Johanna Constantine piccy here
The idea was to suggest that Jade had an extended family and connection to several old families in the heirachy of Eve, potentially a galfed lineage that stretched back a long way into post eve gate history.
Plus of course, it just sounds cool ;) Anyhow, months and months down the line I am still quite happy with the name and the portrait. And its nice to see that Jericho Fraction achieved lots of the goals we set ourselves as raw noobs. And have literally claimed the high profile position we once dreamed of taking in a round table discussion in a north london coffee house ;)
Still, lots left to play for.
(Hope that was interesting to some)
Love and peace

wanted something clever using the French language, to reflect the French heritege of the Gallente people.
i typed in "star searcher" (one of many, many combinations and words i tried)into Google's language translator tool.
technically, it should be "Chercheur d'+toile", but that didn't have the same ring to it. i mean, how silly would "Luke Walker-of-the-Sky" sound?
also, it was pointed out to me later by a very nice French girl that Etoile, meaning "star", is a GIRL'S NAME! d'oh!
but she assured me that since i was using Chercheur, a masculine word, as the surname, it took precidence, making the complete name of Etoile Chercheur masculine.
phew!
another interesting sidenote: because of my name, EVERY French player in the newbie corp i was in would ask me for help in French, of which i only know a couple words... namely "etoile" and "chercheur" and "je suis dÚsolÚ. je ne parle pas franþais."

Eclipse (nick name given to me by my volleyball team)
They used to say that when u look up at gymnasium lights they glow like the sun, and that when I hit the ball at them, the last thing u'd see was an eclipse (gym lights + round black obscured by light object "BALL").
So the name stuck, since the name eclipse was taken, I went for some variation of it :)
Thus, Eclip "tical"

Mine name is a mixure of the ..well, 'name' more or less "Ford Prefect" from Dauglas Adams wonderful 5 book trilogi. One of the main characters, a space traveler, chooses this name thinking that cars are earths dominant life-form. (Just explaining in case someone hasn't read the books )
'Fnord' is a word that means... well, if you don't know you're probably not cleared to know.
All Hail Discordia!

Telos Sascheros

[239]
Technically you could find my whole name in Knights of the Old Repbulic. Telos is easy, I think it's the name of the planet Carth comes from. Sascheros I'll leave to you ;)
Also after I made the character I found out that Telos, as a word, actually means something too.
Main Entry: teÀlos Pronunciation: 'te-"lõs, 'tE- Function: noun Etymology: Greek; probably akin to Greek ''tellein'' to accomplish, ''tlEnai'' to bear : an ultimate end
or
The end of a goal-oriented process.
and
Greek term for the end, completion, purpose, or goal of any thing or activity. According to Aristotle, this is the final cause which accounts for the existence and nature of a thing.
I made this character because I got bored of my old one, so the name fits pretty well I think. ----------------------------------------------- Stand tall and shake the Heavens. |

Mine comes from the Simpsons....spanish version
When Homer (Homero) takes something from someone he screams: Matanga!! (I have no idea what he says on the English version)
I use this nick for all the games I play (so if you see a Matanga running around in DC,BF1942 or BF Vietnam.....that's me )
