As there are currently many threads on this topic here is how you fix it.
Reason: Usually when you have the "Local Session Corrupt" error, the only thing you need to do is close down the client and start it again. But it seems that for some people this issue persists, even after rebooting. The reason for this is that you have not used the /LUA:OFF switch on your shortcut when connecting to our test server. This can cause the cache to become corrupted and therefore rejected when you're trying to connect to Tranquility.
How to fix it: To fix this problem you have to clear your cache, as in rename the EVE-Online cache folder or delete it. Here is how you do it:
1. Exit the game 2. Go to: - Windows 2000/XP: "C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE" - Windows Vista: "C:\Users\%usernames%\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE" 3. In there, there are subfolders named settings and cache. Move those folders over to a safe location outside of the EVE directory (or just rename them). This resets EVE to its default settings as the game then regenerates the folder upon restart.
This also unfortunately clears out your bookmark folders (though the bookmarks themselves are perfectly safe), so if needed, you can try moving the \Settings subfolder of the original \cache folder back to the one in your EVE directory.
Do note that copying the settings folder or any of it's files back may cause your problems to resurface, this includes the prefs.ini file.

Deleting the cache doesnt loose your space bookmarks just the browser ones (favourites to windows users) so before you delete the cache goto - C:\Documents and Settings\YourNameHere\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\cache\Browser and save the notepad files named - 'bookmarksSites.txt' and 'trustedSites.txt' then reinstate these once the game is running ok to regain all your favourite pron sites :P

If you cant find the file just copy and paste the "C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE" into the run option on the start menu worked for me.

Thanks for that. For some reason I could not find that folder otherwise, hidden or something

Well, i don't get any specific message when i crash, it just freezes after i have selected a character and starts loading it up. This was fine before the server was brought down for maint.
I have tried doing what you say, but all that did was make it crash slightly sooner. Nothing has changed clientside so i presume you have seen fit to fiddle with a server setting somewhere.

Unfortunately, for me, when I attempt to locate the folder, there is nothing there. I copy the link and put it into my Folder Location bar, and go to it. It says that this folder does not even exist...
It says this. "Windows cannot find 'C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE'. Check the spelling and try again. Blah blah blah... Any ideas?

I had the same problem locating the local settings file. This was strange since I've done this sort of thing innumerable times on a XP pro, but it seems, in Home, you need to show hidden files through Tools<Folder Options and the option to change it should be on the list.

I tried what you suggested Eayo, but it is not even a hidden folder... I can't seem to find it anywhere. I am on the master account daily and that is the one it was installed on. I have checked it, my mothers account, my brothers account, my fathers account, and the all users account. I have Windows WP Professional. I can't find it at all... I have no Idea of what to do other than, re-install my client and delete the test...
Is there any idea of what could be done to prevent this drastic measure?

Re-installing EVE wont fix the problem because it will not change the cache\settings folder in your profile. You have to follow the steps above. I had the same problem and the above fix worked for me.

Thanks... I only bothered to look up the forums this morning after i finally got my server to work again, this happened to me after playing on the test server... it didnt happen to the other two people playing next to me though =/ Is it just random?
I did happen to find this folder but it was hidden on mine (just make sure you have hidden files displayed).
Also i had to delete another folder first though, in my documents, the eve cache can store there as well. Once i deleted both these folders and rebooted i could get back on eve!

i know what/where the file is to save your IGB bookmarks, ect... but anyone know what the file is named/located that saves your Overview settings? or is there such a beast? would be great cause i had 15-20 various OV setups for each toon (on multiple accounts)
thanks again mates. Dylon

a Side note to what changeing/deleting/removing the cache folder can do.
if you have any sort of customizations of the gui/hud. like window placement, sizes. were your devices are in the tray.the overview size and columns. most of those things. including any settings youve made in the settings menu. i know the first thing i had to do after removing the cache folder was reset my prefs.ini file and set my graphics options and other things of the like.
just mentioning all this, because i had to do it, and found it quite aggravating...

Important to underline that you may have to delete/rename the cache folder AND the settings folder. Deleting only the cache didn't help at all for me, took me 3 hours until I realised I could try and delete the settings too
I also got this problem after logging on to Sisi. I could still log on fine with 2 other accounts but the one I had logged on to Sisi with was borked.
I found the folder by doing a search for prefs.ini, once you've located it it's a good idea to go up one step in the hierarchy and make a shortcut to the Eve folder that puts you in, so you don't have to do the search next time something screws up.

Hey fellas, need a bit of help. Had the Local session corrupt deal there and followed the instructions about moving the folders, only thing is that everytime i log on, jump through a gate or dock/undock every single one of my settings resets. Including sound and graphics settings as well as bookmark folders deleted and overview settings lost. REALLY annoying to say the least, any help would be great, cheers.

Okay, here's a more accurate fix for people for whom Casqade's steps didn't work.
Background: [un]fortunately for me, the Eve client really really hates it when you run multiple instances on the same computer. Everyone once in a while, the settings for one of my pilots gets corrupted and I have to delete two specific files in order to fix it. This also fixed my test server corruption.
Somewhere on your computer (find it yourself; sorry, but different OSes configured differently with people who login differently means it could be in a lot of different places) is the CCP/Eve/ folder containing the folders "cache" and "settings". In the settings folder are six categories of file: 1) char_<number>.dat 2) char__.dat 3) pc.dat 4) prefs.ini 5) user_<number>.dat 6) user__.dat
I believe the file that gets corrupted is the user_<number>.dat for the character that you logged onto the test server with. (In my multiple instance problem, it is also this file that gets corrupted.) Unfortunately, if you're having this problem, there seems to be no way to fix it and also save your client settings (graphics settings, window sizes/positions, subscribed channels, bookmark folders, etc). However, you can at least fix this problem (and mine) without reinstalling Eve. Here's what you do:
1) Close Eve. All instances. 2) Cut (or Copy and Delete) the entire settings folder out of the CCP/Eve folder and put it somewhere else (such as the Desktop). You can also just rename it, but God help you if you're using Vista and you try that. 3) Log in only the character that is having trouble logging in. Log this character into Tranquility, not Singularity. If you accidentally log into Singularity, then start over, but this time Delete the new CCP/Eve/settings folder that will have been created. DO NOT overwrite the backup you made the first time. You shouldn't have any trouble logging in. 4) Close Eve. 5) You will have a new CCP/Eve/settings folder with six files, one for each of the six categories I listed above. Notice the numbers on the two numbered files. 6) Open the backed-up settings folder and Delete those two files. Make sure you get the numbers exactly right. 7) Delete the CCP/Eve/settings folder. DO NOT delete the backup folder. Delete the one that was newly created. The whole folder. DO NOT delete the CCP folder. Delete only the settings folder. 8) Copy the backed-up folder into CCP/Eve/ (if you originally renamed it, change the name back to "settings").
At this point you have deleted the two files in the settings folder that are specific to the character that was broken. You can now log your previously-broken character onto Tranquility and redo all of you settings. Those who read their character XML might notice that the char_<number>.dat file has a number that matches the character ID. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be a way to figure out which user_<number>.dat file is associated with any given character without following the steps listed above.
Dear CCP, I have told you about this before. You seem to have ignored me. You have a race condition which corrupts the user_<number>.dat file when some confluence of factors occurs. It is rare, but it does happen, and it does seem to be associated with running multiple instances of the client on the same machine. My guess is that the code which manipulates settings files is not reentrancy safe. Maybe you should revisit your concurrency model.

Overview settings should be stored on the server really, since they are only used after the game environment has loaded (unlike the graphics settings). Couple extra database tables with numbers I'd think, and no more hassle with corrupted client files all the time. Had to redo all my overview settings at least five times this year, they usually just vanished after a major client update and it seems I've lost them again this time by starting up the Trinity test client.

I have tried recommendation of OP (dev) and unfortunately, after deleting settings folder and cache completely, I am still unable to log into tranquility. I did log into Singularity, and i did press X on the window rather than log off, but you know what devs, the reason for this is simple, the LOG OFF BUTTON ON SINGULARITY (QUIT NOW) DOESNT WORK LATEST PATCH, so that is not my fault, after waiting 5 minutes i was impatient and closed out the wrong way. Sue me. But still, as much as i love you guys and your new patch, i cannot log into the live server now and its really annoying me. Appreciate any help or alternate options in english, as i am not a programmer.
thanks. _____________________________ V I R U S

Edited by: Steph Wing on 06/12/2007 03:45:58 Well I filed a bug report, since the devs don't seem to be paying me any attention. I was advised to do two things:
1) Clear the cache in Documents and Settings, as documented in the first post of this thread. Perhaps whoever responded didn't notice my comment to the effect that I did exactly this.
2) Not to click "Connect" more than once. Well, if I'm not to click "Connect" multiple times, how long do I sit staring at the login screen before concluding that I can't log in? Ten minutes? Fifteen? Thirty?
Come on, guys, I want to play Trinity, I really do, but I can't if I keep bashing my head against this Local Session Corrupt error.

same thing here -- very, very frustrating to not have an updated response from ccp
disappointing to see ~20k players in the server while you've been stuck at login screen for 9 hours... trying endless variations of ccp's 'solution'
to the op, i've never visited the test server or had anything to do with it in any way - why would i be having this same problem then?
i haven't tried anything to do with the premium patch or client download, etc
this was a strict patch old eve to eve classic -- with the above problem resulting
so i download the full classic client, uninstall eve and remove all eve files, and reinstall from the fresh client -- with the above problem resulting
so i rename/move/delete (tried all permutations) the cache/settings files specified -- with the same problem resulting
so i uninstall eve again and remove all eve files, and reinstall fresh classic client -- with the same problem resulting
in none of these scenarios have i tried moving any of the cache/settings files back before starting eve

Ok, here is the resume: - The game worked fine tuesday before trinity patch - The patching went smoothly without errors - I didnt botch around with windows (recently at least) - I run W2k with SP2 (which OS do you run?) - I tried the "delete cache folders solution" which didnt work. - Some other tried a new installation of EVE which didnt solve the problem. - I looked into the registry but there is no information which could lead to the error (actually eve puts hardly any information into the reg) - Almost all others CAN play eve. Did they all install the new graphics like Vuka did?
Well, i cant figure out what kind of error this could be. Need more information. Its either our operation system, or the patch which might not work properly in all cases, or its an error at server-side.

I have very much the same "stuck at login process" as the last posters, and I've tried all with the classic client, from the 24 MB patch older version to the unistall, clean all folders and registry and full new install to no avail.
The client connects, makes the password check, bulk data thing and then it stops there.
Right now I'm downloading the full graphics version to try....

I'm running WinXP SP2 so if you're using W2k and have the same problem then it isn't OS related atleast.
The game worked fine for me tuesday. I'm using classic graphics. not good grapics card engough for the new nice stuff. I have ATI X800 Pro. I have tried to delete cache folders, didn't work.
Devs and Supporters, i know you had a hard day yesterday but now its a new day, you should have had some hours of sleep and now please help us
thanks god my other pc broke yesterday so i have something to distract myself

Hi again!
Downloaded and installed the full graphics client and I CAN connect.
If your graphic card can't support SM3 You can try download the full version and DEACTIVATE the new content (there is an option for that in the "graphics settings" tab). I'm running this mode now.
good luck m8s!

Removed the following folders and files: -Settings -Cache -history.txt

Uninstalled EVE
Checked for persisting folders / files and deleted them.
Rebooted
Installed Classic EVE
Hanging or "Local Session Corrupt" persists.

Same as all the others. BTW, if only 20k players on that means 7-10k can't get in.
Authorizes Aquires bulk data window disappears and I'm staring at connect button again.
I've cleared cash using the settings - uninstalled / reinstalled and all the other garbage.
I had this happen on another patch - this time I set a 15 day skill in breathless anticipation of playing trinity yesterday. Way to go CCP.

Check out this bug report. You're in for a laugh.
Here¦s my problem:
The pesky Local Session Corrupt error rears its ugly head once again, each time I try to connect, and no matter what I do. For clarification, YES I know there is a cache folder buried in Documents and Settings, and YES I have deleted it, and NO the problem will not go away.

Assuming that you haven't done so already, upgrade to the premium graphics. If your comp doesn't support it they will be disabled and you will have classic graphics. However, I was having the same problem as you are and this worked for me.
I'm guessing the classic version is flawed or something. Rolling Eyes Hope that helps!

Must be a problem with the classic version I guess.

I'm having the same problem - was able to log into trinity once; second time got "local session corrupt". Have deleted the CCP folder from <user>\local settings\application data\ - did not fix problem.
but here's the thing: create a new user account under windows XP - log in and run Eve --> WORKS! (but only once; the second time i log in: local session corrupt!!!!!!!!
Also - have never logged onto test server - have not "upgraded" to premium (will take few days to download 1GB!! - Telkom sucks!)

Edited by: Manipulator General on 09/12/2007 05:21:55 I'll stick my name down on the list of Local Session Corrupt victims.
Tried the renaming/deletion of the whole folder in the Documents and Settings, to no avail. Whilst I was sitting at the login screen (right before you get the error if you hit enter again), and logged in on my other PC. That promptly kicked me off on the error-tastic PC. So it appears the server realises I am logged in to some extent, and boots me since I logged in somewhere else.
Fwiw, I didnt install the premium graphics, since the PC in question is of the lame variety, and wont handle the new graphics. It ran fine pre-patch though.
Bah. :(

Add another to the list - tried all, clean classic install with all previous folders/caches deleted. Completes the login, but never goes to the character selection screen no matter how long you wait. Trying the connect button again gives the corrupt session message.

OMFG, there appears to be be nothing wrong with my PC, my connection, or the server. It's the CLASSIC CLIENT THAT'S AT FAULT!
I just ran the premium client on my PC, and it's fine suddenly. And I'm not the only one this is the case for.
PLEASE FORUM MODs - update the initial thread with this possible fix.

Worked for me.
I couldn't even get to the character select screen. Tried reinstalling the classic client, tried clear cache, nothing worked.
Upgraded to the premium client (on a computer that won't even support the premium content) and every works fine now!
PLEASE add this fix to this topic... I wasted my whole day trying to figure this out!!

Originally by: CCP Casqade As there are currently many threads on this topic here is how you fix it.
How to fix it: To fix this problem you have to clear your cache and settings, as in rename the EVE-Online cache and settings folders or delete them.
And still the real solution isn't posted.

THe cache directions from CCP is wrong (on XP at least). Caches are stored in the hidden local_settings folder (in your user folder), then application data, then CCP.
Why the hell they've placed them in hidden system folders in beyond me...

I had a similar issue on one of my PC's running win2k. Game froze up after entering login. The "Preparing data" progress window would show and disappear, and eventually I'd be back would stay at the 'login window', apparently frozen (but still playing the EVE music). Clicking on 'connect' again would bring up the corrupt session error message mentioned at the start of this thread.
This was on a PC where the BITS service used by windows Update is broken to the point where Microsoft Tech "Support" can't even figure out how to fix it. It's probably due a full OS reinstall, but I didn't want to go to that much effort just to fix EVE on an otherwise working PC.
I'd tried full client reinstall of the classic client, deleting caches as suggested in other posts in this thread. Based on an obscure message 30 pages in the past in the forums here, I suspected EVE Classic client was hung up talking to BITS to see if I could run premium content.
Fortunately, the system barely met minimums for the Premium content client, so I downloaded that, cleared up enough free space for it, and installed away. This seems to have cleared up the login problem.
I ran across an interesting bug in the installer -- if you don't have sufficient disk space in its default location, and enter in the text box a custom path, it doesn't check the space in the custom path and un-grey the 'install' button.
I've had petitions open on this problem since patch day with no responses --oh, 3 weeks ago. If I didn't have two other PC's to play on, I'd be pretty ticked off by now.
Thanks to those of you on the forum here for providing some useful help!

Ran into this error today. Here is what happened:
1. I closed EVE the night before, went to bed. PC was running through the night with no application whatsoever running. 2. I came home, wanted to start the client -> Local session corrupt \o/ 3. Cleared cache -> fail 4. Deleted both the cache and settings folder in ".../local settings/application data/CCP/EVE/" -> fail 5. Played around with premium/non premium settings -> fail 6. See 4. 7. Played around with the /LUA:OFF command in the shortcut -> fail 8. See 4. 9. Current status -> fail
I have not been on the test server since Trinity so the statement about the missing /LUA:OFF while connecting to SiSi causing this problem is not entirely true/incomplete. It just happened over night for no reason i could see. Also someone in this thread mentioned you should have 6 files in the settings folder after deleting it. I only have 5 after doing that. The char_number.dat is missing. I guess it is created after you have logged in successfully which i have not managed to accomplish yet.

I've never been on the test servers, and I have tried all of the above fixes, but still cannot get past the login screen. Could this be an OS issue? I've noticed my yahoo client is not connecting aswell... It's not yahoo that's causing that problem as I can log in under linux fine. So I'm wondering if it's an OS update that might have broken something.

The client's local session information is corrupt, probably as a result of failed cleanup during a disconnect. Connecting to the server in this state could lead to a rather unpleasant game experience. Please restart the client prior to logging in.

I had the same experience. Went to bed after closing EVE correctly. Got up this morning and experienced the corrupt local file message. It seems to me after reading all the posts here that the real problem is the online server login. How could all of us have the same issue and not have this be something that the online server is creating even though it reports to us as a local issue. One thing that is crystal clear, removing your cache and settings folder will not fix this issue. Everyone has tried the suggested fixes and they do not fix this issue.
It would be good to hear from CCP on this forum so that we could at leasts know that it is being looked at.
If they need file/logs from us, I wish they would just ask us here. I'll check back here later but for now I'm gonna not going to waste my time trying to fix it.

I logged off some seconds before DT today. When i tried to log in again after an hour i got the Local Session Corrupt Error. I had that error before, after trinity was introduced. At that time installing the premium graphics solved my problem. This time i tried:
- Deleting the Cache and Settings
- Deinstallation of EVE
- Resinstallation of the classic client
- Adding the premium graphics patch
and NOTHING of this steps helped! I'm still unable to connect, due to Corrupt Session Data! And as i see here, i'm not the only one. It would be really really nice, if someone in charge could answer to this. I'm running W2k SP2, btw. ----------------- Never knock on Death's door. Ring the bell and run! Death hates that. |

Still the same result. I am also running Win2k by the way.
I am not an expert but this does not look like a client side error to me or at least not entirely client side. There are several people who posted after me having the exact same problem and before i posted there have been no complaints at all for 17 days in this thread.

Well it would seem atleast from DT today, W2k mashines cant connect...
And CCP, no matter how, why or what u did, stop blameing the players. You did something during DT, that have corrupted this. The fact that some ppl can log in once, fact that they have to reinstall the client (witch not always work), sugests the client IS damageing the files itself. Ive not been on the test server for like a year, and the cache i erased to fresh start, when trinity hit, to make sure i didnt have any problems.
I run w2k SP4 on 1 mashine, it wont work, no matter what trick i try. Tried all the sugestions above, and i already run premium, tries turning graphics off aswell. My XP mashine next to me works just fine with Premium client. I have tried copying the settings from that computor even, to the w2k one. Same result. Even copying the intire client from the XP mashine to the w2k, still same error. It tries to connect, after prepareing bulk data etc, it just "returns" to log in, and then u get corrupt info, dispite fresh cache, settings, logs AND client (downloaded today).
I used the log server, and it shows red exeption #8 at the exact moment the prepair data vanishes. IF there is a place to post or upload the logs ill do it.

Win2K here also. I REALLY have to remember to read these before I start mucking around with my files. After many reboots and tweaks, thinking my client really was broken, I uninstalled. Now I sit, waiting for the fresh client to download - and my training finished an hour ago! |

The client's local session information is corrupt, probably as a result of failed cleanup during a disconnect. Connecting to the server in this state could lead to a rather unpleasant game experience. Please restart the client prior to logging in. then I get.... Connection Timeout - The server did not respond to the client's secure-handshake request within a reasonable amount of time
cant reply to the official thread
Eve showing 35, 183 players.
Running windoze XP sp2
tried an old copy of the client - unable to connect to 87.237.38.200 on port 26000
essentially made the eve folder another name and made a new folder called eve in the local settings dir... entered username and password, tells me it is connecting and then nothing else, then it just sits there and should I click on the connect, it loops back to

The reason for this is that you have not used the /LUA:OFF switch on your shortcut when connecting to our test server.
I've never connected to the test server. I can't fix the problem with this advice

Originally by: CCP Casqade As there are currently many threads on this topic here is how you fix it.
How to fix it: To fix this problem you have to clear your cache and settings, as in rename the EVE-Online cache and settings folders or delete them.
I have tried all the above & after a great struggle in finding the settings & cache folders which do not show up in the main EVE folder, still the same old message keeps comimg up every time I log on, any other ideas would be appreciated.

And another one bites the dust.. This problem has just started for me too.. Logged off earlier this afternoon and now I can't get back online because of the corrupt session thingy.
Tried all the above steps and nothing worked.. Wonder if I'll get a refund for the time I'm unable to play? :)
