Another year has come and passed and it is time again to remember all of those who lost their lives in the bitter war around and on Caldari Prime. I will host this year's memorial as I have in the past over the former homeworld of the Caldari people on the 1st of January in the Luminaire system. The time the memorial will start will be announced when we all are closer to the actual event. ----- *results may vary*

Well, I'll be there, Ms. Scarlet, respecting the dead, whether you approve of it or not. I suspect that Mr. Wassenar won't be backing down either.

Regardless of the current lamentable diplomatic stance of the Caldari State, the fact remains that the Caldari people bravely and honourably fought for their nation against a superior force. That is something that I, and most likely many other Matari warriors, can respect.
So, if I can, I will pay my respects at Caldari Prime. If I can't be there in person, I will be there in spirit at least.

In fact, your corpse graces my personal laboratory collection in silent memory of that event, though I grant you the odd molecule likely still circles Caldari Prime.
As to turning one's back on the State... Dear me, as the State has no interest in Caldari Prime other than as a brick in the wall of propaganda mythology that it uses to exert control over the minds of the credulous, I really wonder if it is meet for people to suggest that a Caldari cannot mark the event in their own way, ties to the State having been severed or not.
I also wonder if certain people will be attending in sack-cloth and ashes, on bended knee, asking their forgiveness for their part in a certain recent event. Possibly, if there is a shred of honour and dignity in them, that might be a higher priority than criticizing other Caldari for honouring the dead of that long ago struggle for freedom.

The Amarr have their own history to remember, Cosmopolite, and it is true for us as well.
I will be attending, I think. I've visited the skies of Caldari Prime in the past. It's only fitting that the pioneers of the new generations should honour the losses of those that came before. Whether or not the State has any interest in retaking our old homeworld is irrelevant - credulousness or not, our history and what was done to us have helped shape the Caldari into who we are today, and we should at least be able to honour that formative process. - The game is not the problem. The problem is that you are not adapting to the game.

None of you, none of us have the right or the ability to do anything that the fallen soldiers of the War haven't already done. Everything that was worth doing and undoing, they've done long before any of you were born. At best, understanding why they were sent to war will show us how stupid and pointless war is and that good men and women can and do die for no good reason. At worst, their actions will fill us with pride, honor, and glory while reminding us that we all still have scores to settle and that this time, our noble heroes can be victorious.
I'm a relic. I'm filled with hatred. I hate the Gallente for what they've done to us. I hate the Federation for what it tried to keep us from doing. I hate the masters of the State for going back on their fine promises of liberation and choosing to serve their own ends at the expense of the people. I even hate that our people are so strong that they can endure what the State has become without complaint and without faltering. But most of all, I hate that those who do not learn from history inevitably repeat it and that none of you have learned ... yet.
So go on. Remember everything that happened before you were born while learning nothing. Honor your dead heroes for their grand sacrifices. Remember them as proud and noble warriors who were glad to lay down their lives for the good of their people. Fill your head with the glory of their deeds. Forget about what total war really is, why the last wars finally ended and tell yourself that next time, things will end differently. Perhaps this time, you'll all will finish what the last wars started.
Best of luck, heroes. _ Never believe anything until it has been officially denied.

I might attend the Memorial, if I think that the Caldari State loyalists might make some attempt to mend the rift between themselves and Federal loyalists such as myself. The Federation is not ruled by the bastards that bombed your nation - nor is your State run by the people who destroyed Nouvelle Rouvenour or drove carriers into Hueremont. There were atrocities committed by both sides, and I am mature enough to realise that it was not all the State's fault - the Federation are not free of guilt, nor are the Caldari.
I say let us bury the hatchets - all of them. There are bigger things at stake in this universe than this old enmity, and it is high time ties between the Caldari and the Federation were mended.

The rift between our nations will never close until both sides are prepared and able to lay difference aside, and it's pleasing to me to see anyone, regardless of affiliation, take those steps.
Nevertheless, if you're going to come, I'd suggest flying something with strong defenses. I doubt that your welcome would be universal. - The game is not the problem. The problem is that you are not adapting to the game.

Are you saying that what you honor Tovil-Toba for is a lie?
From public historical records it can be read
Quote: The week bought by Tovil-Toba and the ensuing confusion following in the wake of the new government gave the Caldari enough time to finish the evacuation of Caldari Prime. Only a small fighting force remained, acting as a guerilla force.
Then the planet was bombarded.
Or was it an attempt at a blatant lie on your part to support the picture of "the evil Federation"? ---

Originally by: Public Record What made the situation so tense right from the start was the situation on Caldari Prime. Being located in the same solar system as Gallente Prime made the Gallenteans very nervous and, more importantly, a sizeable Gallentean population was living on Caldari Prime. Right after the Caldari defected from the Federation they focused on securing the jump gates leading to their (once) hidden bases, as those bases provided the backbone to the Caldari military infrastructure at that time. At the same time the Gallenteans moved their fleet into orbit around Caldari Prime and started blocking the planet.
For the next few days nothing much happened. The Caldari were content to sit by the jump gates, while the Gallenteans were debating how to best negotiate a peace agreement. But the Caldari on Caldari Prime were restless. They found the Gallente blockade intolerable and soon small-scale guerrilla activities escalated into all out hostilities. In the end the Gallente population on the planet had to pay the price for the FederationĘs indecisiveness.
The turning point came when Caldari partisans sabotaged the glass dome of the Gallente-inhabited underwater city Nouvelle Rouvenor. More than half a million perished. From then on a lengthy, bloody war between the two races was all but inevitable ū the Federation retaliated at once by sending an invasion force down to Caldari Prime and began a systematic orbital bombardment of the planet. Soon, the Caldari population had been driven to the mountains and the forests; their resistance getting weaker by the day. The only question was: how would the newly formed Caldari State respond?
That was the start of the war, after Nouvelle Rouvenor a right-wing government took over the Federation and advocated a deadly response: bombing Caldari Prime and sending in troops to take control of the planet.
After a dicussion between the main Caldari leaders which led to the Morning of Reasoning was it decided to evacuate Caldari Prime.
After two weeks the evacuation was far from complete with more then half of population still on the planet, it became obvious that the gallente were going to launch an assault on Caldari Prime. Admiral Tovil-Toba led a delaying action that resulted in the time required being gained but at the cost of his fleet. His own ship, the Kairiola for which todays modern Carriers are named after, was the last to be destroyed and "In his dying breaths Tovil-Toba directed the huge vessel down towards Gallente Prime."
The Kairiola broke in the atmospheare and its pieces scattered, the largest hitting the city of Hueromont.
This is not an attempt at propaganda but the truth. The actions of the past are in the past, and the men and women of both sides must be remembered. War is a deadly thing, and we can but hope that our sons do not have to bare such a conflict not that our daughters have to live with the loss of loved ones.
EDIT:
A representitive of the ATTC shall be attending to remember the loss of both sides of the conflict.

Thuul, my friend, now is not the time. I feel that this is an excellent time to mend the tattered and precarious relationship between our nation and theirs, and that squabbling over who did what and whose fault it was will only exascerbate bad feeling. As I have stated, there are far more pressing threats to our Federation than the State - they just want to be left alone. And to be perfectly frank, I for one, regardless of their politics, which I have no real disagreement with anyway, would rather have the State covering my back than sticking a knife in my face.
We're not the bastards we were back then, and neither are they. There's been enmity between the State and the Federation for far too long and it's high time it ended.
I will be there, on the 1st, and I will happily share a drink with any Caldari to toast to the memories of those we lost in the past, and to toast to better days to come.
Will you be there drinking with me, Thuul? ----- I never sleep. I wait. |

I personally welcome to memorial service those Caldari who have turned their back on the State, despite our numerous differences. That friends of Guristas, pirates who gorge themselves on the blood and property of our people, yet call themselves Caldari is however beyond absurd. I do sincerely hope that they shall not stain the memorial grounds with their presence, and also, that anarchists have enough dignity not to try turn the service into yet another platform for spouting propaganda. I also sincerely believe that my hopes are misplaced.
Thuul'Khalat, I do not blame you for swallowing the Federal mythology on Caldari Prime's bombardment. That wasn't exactly the proudest moment of your people. Nouvelle Rouvenor wasn't ours, either. Still, the historical evidence is clear.

Dignity? The tool of the lordlings in the CEP, resting comfortably on laurels purchased by the blood of the soldiery, the proletariat, and free-thinking intelligentsia of those long lost days, should not dare talk about turning the memorial into a propaganda platform.
The Memorial is to remember the ultimate sacrifices made by so many on the altar of freedom. Whether or not they cling feverishly to obsolescent notions of order or not.
What, instead, these troopers for the status quo should consider, on the note of "anarchists" and "guristas" is whatever might be pushing people out of your so cherished system so constantly and in such numbers - and with such vengeance. But do so outside of this memorial, for this is a memorial to ultimate heroes - those who sacrificed their lives for ideals with no hope of cheaply purchased reincarnation.
In that aspect, they are betters to all of us in their activism. Let that be it.

I haven't attended in the past, but having taken part, now, in a truly massive, brutal war, I have a renewed understanding for what the Caldari must have gone through during the Bombardment - and the immensity of the crime which the Federation committed when it was still young. There are some of us, at least, who remember what Dorneaux said that day, even if the Caldari revile him as a murderer still. I would like to attend, if just to prove that not all of us are, or were, frothing Ultra-Nationalists.
If any Federal citizens are attending, might I reccomend we come in either Velators or shuttles? Whatever is as non-offensively-oriented as possible. For us, at least, it seems appropriate. -----
