HTML would be nice! PDF could be difficult, the scan strength must be adjusted induvidually.
Thanks nice Guide :)

I can confirm the validity of the file. The reason it is in excel format is because there are pages that you can plug stats into (probe strength) and they will output signature strengths based on that. The text portion of the guide could be word/pdf/whatever but unless you wanna do the math yourself those pages are handy. |

It can't be done as PDF, and HTML might require skills or resources he doesn't have. As they say in the south, don't look a gift horse in the mouth. If your Office is patched properly there's little risk.

I have managed to whip together an HTML version that uses Javascript and cookies to calculate the signature strengths for your personal probe strength and to show/hide one pirate faction at a time. It is usable without either JS or Cookies but it will then default to a probe strength of 10.
I've also PDFed the Excel sheet so you can print it and DIY and fill in the signature strengths yourself
I haven't touched PHP in many years so unfortunately I cannot put together an IGB version that checks which solar system you're in and filters the sheet automatically.
It'll still be a while before I manage to add WH-space, but in the mean time I suggest you read Aandaan's post on the old forums.
The HTML version also features links to the EVElopedia articles, and lastly I'll be adding the new 5/10s (and any other new DED plexes) as I hear about them.
Thank you all and have a lovely day :) |

yes, it is possible if signature strength is very weak
you drop core probes and see more signatures in system than with DSP.
try first scan with DSP 128 or even 64 AU to discover all signatures in system and second scan with 256 to filter desired signatures. |

the thing is that if your probes sensor strength not high enough (ship without bonuses for example) some "weak" signatures have strength less than 0,01% with 256 AU DPS. In this case they will not show up in signatures list.

Yesterday I did some scanning in a C2 wormhole and want to confirm some wromspace info.
My probe sensor strength was equal to 13,2 and, as supposed, I've been using a deep core scanning probe with distance set to 256AU.
The following sites had strength of 0,26%:
- Ordinary Perimeter Deposit (Gravimetric) x1
- Sizeable Perimeter Reservoir (Ladar) x4
- Token Perimeter Reservoir (Ladar) x2
- Ordinary Perimeter Reservoir (Ladar) x4
- Minor Perimeter Reservoir (Ladar) x1
- Wormhole K162 (Unknown) x1
- Wormhole B274 (Unknown) x1
The following site had strength of 0,17%:
- Wormhole D382 (Unkown) x1
The following site had strength of 0,13%:
- Unexceptional Frotier Deposit (Gravimetric) x1
The following site had strength of 0,10%:
- Wormhole Y683 (Unkown) x1
The following site had strength of 0,07%:
- Unsecured Perimeter Comms Relay (Radar) x1 - this should fall into 0.06% category I guess
The following sites had strength of 0,06%:
- Unsecured Perimeter Comms Relay (Radar) x2
- Unsecured Perimeter Transponder Farm (Radar) x1
- Forgotten Perimeter Habitation Coils (Radar) x2
- Isolated Core Deposit (Radar) x1
P.S. Thanks for nice html version! |

well ichecked it with a deep space probe, and i was wondering how can i know what my scan strength is, i use dees space scan with a 5 scan strenght and i have noticed that the radar, magno's i found were in spectrum 0.08 and in 0.04. But i had set the strenght on the website to 4. Now i ve got frigate lvl 5 and with an imcus i get strenght 0.17 the website says its 0.16 for unknowns so how do use the website? |

There are some plexes you missed, not sure if they should be added tho.
If you go to Black Rise (hi sec of it) you can find Unknown signature which is part of Caldari epic arc:
Federation Detention Facility FNSBR-106V
It is quiet interesting plex, despite the fact you get serious hit to your standing to Gallente. I know people farm it for tags after DT and in hope for some Faction BS spawn. The issue is once everything cleared plex remain till nex td, or someone got thru gate and trigger it off.
When I was scanning Black Rise I always used DSP to filter this plexes out.
I not sure, but I presume such kind of plex exists for each faction in particular region.
In any event with DPS strength 10 and radius 256 signature is 0,07 if memory serves me right. |

Thanks 5nipe, I guess I'll have a look around Black Rise for it this weekend. I'm sure there's still plenty of COSMOS and Epic Arc sites I'm missing from my lists.
Mark: this guide unfortunately won't help you to find Radars faster if all you're looking for is Radars.
If you're looking for a specific site (e.g. Local Gurista Minor Shipyard) or sites on the same rows (e.g. Gurista Scout Outpost, Gurista Watch and Local Gurista Data Processing Center) then it will help.
But I'm assuming you're looking for sites based on column (i.e. only Radars) in which case you can't exclude any signatures because (almost) all of them have a chance of being some kind of Radar. Sorry :( |

Hi St Mio
I have unfortunately come across a lot of inconsistencies in the information for wormholes, but I think I am definitely doing it wrong. I'd just like to ask, where do I read the exact strength for my probes? I currently will open fitting window (in space) and show info on the sisters deep space probes that are loaded. Showing a base strength of 11. Is this correct? I then type that into the HTML sheet and get calculated values. However the k162 (large band) is about 0.2 + calculated, but I never gets readings over 0.12! |

St mio,
I figured out what I did wrong. I thought you'd have to put the deep space probe several AU away from the center of the solar system (100 au further away than the outer planet) to get the most exact and correct readings. Turns out, if you do that you more than half you scan strength readings when trying to compare it with your datasheet.
So from now on I just launch the probe where I am and do the scan. And behold! I can use your lovely sheet with extreme accuracy <3, Thank you! |

I have been moving the DSP to the center of the system (right around the sun). The readings have either matched exactly or been .01 off (not really worth worrying about). This is due to the fact that I am far off the center of the system in a safe spot.

Oh belive me, it will, especially if you are scanning for plexes in highsec.
Quick trick: jump into system, align next gate, drop dsp, set to 256AU, press scan and commence warp. Scan only takes a few seconds. If there's a sig you like, press "stop ship" mid-warp and you won't jump the out gate. You can then sit on the out gate and recover your dsp and launch scanner probes.
If there are no good sigs, just recover the dsp. It will be back in your cargo bay before you complete warp, and you will have scanned & jumped straight through a whole system without stopping at all.
To do this effectively, take half a dozen dps's with you so the launcher doesn't have to reload too often.
The box said "Requires Windows-á2000 or better", so I installed Linux. |

Huge thanks to St Mio and everyone else who has contributed. I moved back to wspace where I belong, and this technique is a game changer when finding routes thru wormholes.

So am I right?
When I scan the system with my deep scanner probe at 256au with Probe Sensor Strength at 11 points in Fountain, and when i get a result with signal strenght 0.21, I'm still not certain I have a wormhole or a Magnetometric site or a Gravemetric site or an "unknown site"?

Yes you need to scan it down to see what it actually is. However it will only be sites that can be found within this particular band.
The example is a bad one tho. You do not want look for this band, as it contains all the k162s. |

As Mnemo said, the sheet works better if you look at from the other way 'round and say "I want to find DED 4/10s, what strength signals do I look for and which can I ignore?" as opposed to "I have 0.21, which site is it going to be?" |

and this is about the only example where it is usefull ... if you look for radar sites, you have to scan all except the first band. similar for grav sites.
finding the DED sites is the only example where the guide is usefull ... |

It is extremely useful in wormholes, where you can be facing dozens of signatures and know the static, and want to quickly filter a mass of bands where the static isn't.
There speed can also have real meaning, not just isk/hour :)

I finally did the Astro V, started using this and realized that I been stupid not to do it immediately upon reading these ideas a year ago. Made a billion following it in the first 3 days, course that means I'll get nothing for a month now (1 week down of that).
For Hi-Sec there must be one sig missing. When I look at LowSec, there is clearly a wh going from low-sec to hi-sec. So either there is something missing from the guide, or the game is broken and there can never be a wormhole that runs from hi-sec to low-sec, there are only K162 in hi-sec that represent the exit from low-sec space.
Over in Black Rise, there is a COSMOS site that is a little stronger than the Vigil, so there are some sigs missing from the guide. The ellatha list show a lot of "Leads into low-sec system" whs.
Oh, and for those that claim the guide is only good for DED sites, nope, I find it helpful for pulling up that wh I want.

I have very rarely found an R051 WH sig in the same band as the pirate watch and the X702 C3 WH. Theres another signature missing if you look at the best grav sites for high sec. Large Hemorphite, Jaspet and Kernite Deposit is probably between the average Hemorphite, Jaspet and Kernite Deposit band and the lowest band. |

Hello!
I spent some time yesterday on SiSi scanning down my alt.
tl;dr scan results for ships are
(Target Signature Radius / Target Sensor Strength) * (Your Probe Strength / Diameter of Scan Probe) not taking into account deviation.
For my test I used:
- my amazing exploration Nidhoggur with Expanded Probe Launcher II, vanilla T1 Deep Space Probes and 2x Large Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I
- All three 10% Poteque implants (AP-610, AQ-710, AR-810)
- Astrometric Acquisition and Astrometric Pinpointing 3
- Astrometric Rangefinding 4 and Astrometrics 5
My alt then proceeded to swap ships in and out of the carrier, I'd scan them, activate modules, check fitting window, scan, etc etc. I also warped the alt to the furthest planet (22.8 AU away) and then scanned again. In hindsight I should have just moved the probes instead and toggled multiple DSPs on and off.
The rounding off is annoying (in game fitting tool shows sensor strength rounded to the nearest integer, signal results round off after two decimal places, I should have used LogServ to get the untrunctuated probe strength) so I had to try and recalculate more accurate signal strength results using the MWD-active values (highest value per ship, so the smallest error value from rounding off). Just like sites, they play to the (x * probe str / 512) rule, where 512 is your diameter (in game scanner shows radius, probe strength is http://www.swiftandbitter.com/eve/misc/Probe_Strength.jpg ) and x is the cosmic signature/ship's special little number.
The bad news is that there's a lot more deviation than with sites (+0.06 difference with the ship moving 22.8 AU in one case).
On an interesting note, when jumping my Carrier in, the ships my alt popped into had the following locus IDs:
- Merlin JUY-613
- Cormorant OVY-472
- Caracal LWY-819
- Drake KXY-544
- Raven SXY-056
Also, his capsule's ID (SFC-600) before he boarded a ship and after I blew up said ship changed (AZF-300). Might be worth looking into how locus IDs work and what the patterns are.
The numbers can be found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AgyYH4Hyu_cZdFNhWnlIMjdfMnpCRjJ6UzY2NzNkV3c
I hope you all have a lovely day. Take care. |

Your missing variable is the so called probe multiplier. For 1 probe, this multiplier is 0.25.
This might look a bit odd, but it actually made sense back when only your 4 highest ranking probes were included in determining the outcome. At that time, 4 probes combined had a probe multiplier of 1. With the changes to include all probes in the calculation for the reported signal strength, this is no longer the case.
Good luck with your experiments ;-) |

Glad to see that people managed to make use of that data. Unfortunately now that information is outdated.
With Incarna the scan strength formula has changed quite a lot (even though part of it is still valid). I have a decent grasp on the new system, but there are some odd formulas involved which I haven't been able to nail down yet. |

Well it turns out for site probing the death to the DSP is actually a good thing. With the new scanner you get to know which planet the sig is at and the band that sig is part of without having to use a DSP at all. So in essence everyone got the DSP mechanic for free and automatically |

Except that the default pattern has huge holes where it will miss sigs, and resizing the probes stuffs up the UI, and rescaling the formation doesn't fix the pattern gaps, and now instead of having to adjust my probe box once per system, I now have to adjust my sweep which usually takes LONGER because its not the same for each system, and gives me comparitively poor and innaccurate results compared to a DSP. I trained DSPs to not have to do this! |

You sound confused, you seem to imply that I was refering to the poopy spread formation of probes which will not be used by anyone because of the new sensor overlay. Here have a picture, http://gyazo.com/79ad48214c985c93c8a62337303414d4 |

Yes which is an extremely poor substitute for the DSP, which gives me a list, that I can take a screenshot of, or sort by signal strength.

DSP is a combat probe. ie the overlay only does half what a DSP does, doesn't put the info into the probing window, its not even on the map screen where probing is done, and tells me stuff in the wrong order, and requires me to spin my viewpoint around to find everything. I'm not interested in it till my ship is off the WH or gate and thus safe enough to consider PVE, so its initial scan and sticking stuff up is all visual clutter to me. Its also -effort- to get it to tell me there is nothing in system, and its -effort- to get it to tell me how many things are in system, and it doesn't tell me if there are other active hulls in system.
If I was to take an information design perspective on it, I would have to say that the designer got the timing and location of all the information almost entirely wrong with this. Even from a hunters perspective, if you came in to find someone in an anom, your scan will be filled with clutter from anoms that are out of d-scan range.

I think I know what he might have told you. Whoever thinks that your guide is useless doesn't know the first thing about scanning (although a little bit of work moe might be still required). However remember that at least some signature sizes have changed (I distinclty remmeber finding many signature size of 1% real, not just an approximation of 1.25%, on SISI), you might have to update your list. |

Not sure how trustworthy people consider classic (pre-2007) office file formats from strangers. It can't be done as PDF, and HTML might require skills or resources he doesn't have. As they say in the south, don't look a gift horse in the mouth. If your Office is patched properly there's little risk. As I said in the previous forums, awesome work and thanks for doing this.
Seems like you'd be more aware of the existence of scams and malware as an eve player. Not even specific to this thread. This new learning amazes me sir Bedimere. Tell me again how sheep's bladders may be employed to prevent earthquake. |

WTB guide on getting isk - for free.
Anyway, there once were some pretty clever people, who after investigating why some signatures were harder to scan than others came up with an idea that signatures are actually 'banded together' in certain 'difficulties'. Much scanning and theorycrafting later it was figured out and it was also deemed useful to use the huge range of deep space scanner probes to mitigate the problem of deviation to 'filter' signatures. This was at first used in secrecy, but then made public. With the making it public, there appeared a trend to use this technique to only look for certain sites, and it spread. Soon many people were doing that.
I suppose CCP thought - rightfully in my opinion - that this is not an intended game feature and made some stuff happen, which they thought would make this phenomenon go away. But in their first release of the new 'scanner' a bug crept in, that in the distance column did not actually show the distance, but the disguised signature strength of a signature. Someone clever noticed this and made a thread/guide. CCP fixed this.
There are still (actually pretty easy) ways to look only for certain bands, but i am not of the kind to just relay this to anyone. So i suggest you go do some probing and maybe figure something out.

A Man Divided wrote:Hi, mind explaining how to use the new guide/updated tables/method for see the sig strength of the certain bands?
Its less necessary because of the change to identifying sigs at 25% as combat or WH, and the default scanner sweep gives you some indication of which celestial clusters need checking, which dsps didn't. For me or my alt in a covops I can often identify any 0.1s as combat before I've finished warping to any reasonable distance gate, just by waving the default 4au box over each cluster.
you just have to learn what range on a 4au box for your skills to expect a 0.1 in. 0.025s for those hunting the best relic/datas are also pretty obvious.
I'd be suprised if I was slower on a 50 system sweep to identify all the 0.1 combats.
