A megatron owns everything in 1on1 except maybe another megatron.

I suppose both can win depending on setups. I haven't lost to a tempest on chaos yet (except for the one that started at 72km ), 800mm ships included. I'm sure it's possible to get a pretty nice setup with them, though.

Don't forget the Tempest gets also a +RoF bonus, that might compensate the lower damage mod.

No, they are nowhere close to the blasters when it comes to damage. About the same RoF but more than 35% lower damage mod. The tempest bonus doesn't make up for it.

Tempest is a more well rounded ship with better defenses so it has a shot at winning with 800mm.
Plus no cap on your weapons is more power for defenses. ------

I tried a 6 800mm setup for npc hunting. It was able to eat cruisers rapidly - lots of damage in a short time - but chewed ammo very rapidly. Wasn't an efficient npc hunting setup due to the ammount of ammo necessary.
I can see an 800mm tempest gunship as being a viable close range combat vessel with appropriate tanking - limited cap use of the guns allows for more cap for other defensive mods (hardeners, shield boost, armor repairer etc) =============== Killboard: http://www.celeskills.com

6 of 800mms sounds impressive, but 6 of anything all do extremely well, e.g. like 6 (or 7) Megapulse on an Armaggedon. The point is, with 6 800mm, would you like to face something with 6 or even 7 Neutron Blasters?
I would personally prefer the Megathron for one on one battles, but the person asking the question should ask himself first, what type of battles are he most likely to face? If one on one engagement as are going to be more common, the Megathron may be just the thing. But if fleet style engagments are to be expected, the Tempest is a much better firepower support ship, where you can expect to bombard your enemies from a distance.

Projectiles do about half the damage compared to Blasters. Blaster are THE most powerful weapons ingame. Only easy way to really beat a blaster-megathron is to get over 20km away from it, or just use EW against it. ********** Everyone deserves to die. You go first.

Or, my favorite, is to take my tempest with 4x 1400mm and 2x 1200mm and blast away while laughing at the blaster equipped mega trying to survive my 65k range long enough to get within my tracking range :) Don't make me get my flying monkies. |

Then the Megathron pilot you're fighting against is an idiot. You don't try and clear 65km in a blaster thron while under fire. Smarter to simply bookmark, warp past your opponent somewhere, and warp back at 60km, and drop right on top of them.

Exactly. You might win a few times, but starting at 60+ km, probably not (unless your enemy kinda... sucks ). If you're in a blaster-equipped ship and someone at that range attacks, you don't start MWDing there, peroid.

It's not about cap in that situation Siddy. It's about the Tempest having blasted the megathron to bits by the time it get close enough. So unless you equip two MWD's the extra cap will not help in that situation.
And about you typhoon winning from a megathron due to it's speed. Any smart pilot observing you being faster would just warp. The essenco of the blaster mega is to get close fast, web and /or scramble and pound to kingdom come.
As soon as the getting close, webbyfying/scrambling or pounding part is out of the window. The blasterthron should warp. _______________________________________________

I dueld my friend in his Tempest and I in my Megathron. His 1400mm where doing 300+ at 5km and my crappy blasters where doing cruiser dmg around 50. I know I had sucky blasters at the moment and the day after I had reconfigured the ship for 300+ dmg at short range. Theys ships are both outstanding when it comes to killing.

Tempest beats all battleships 1on1 IF you exclude using any ECM because they can focus all their cap on their shilds.
A Tempest setup for closerange will kill a blaster Megatron easy just because of that. The Megathron needs to spend the cap on both guns and shilds, and blasters suck the cap pretty fast with their RoF.

Sure you can focus all your cap to your shields. Cap is not the issue though. Shield hit points recharge per second is.
Tempest can't win Vs Megathron by shield tanking. It can win by out manuevering. Use slightly less range decreasing ammo than EMP, take advantage of the extra falloff and the better speed and focus your cap on MWD instead of shields.
If you manage to stay at a desired range you 'll either run the Thron out of cap, as it tried to keep up with you, or deal better damage than it does, as it fires at maximum falloff.

Tempest shield (base): 4450 @ 2000s Megathron shield (base): 3975 @ 2000s
Tempest has more shields.
Tempest cap (base): 4250 @ 923.9s Megathron cap (base): 4500 @ 923.9s
Megathron has more cap.
BUT: Tempest can use near all cap for shield replenishing and it has 5 Medium slots.
Now show me your point again. --------------

Cap means nothing if your shield recharging can't keep up with the damage being dealt.
That is my point.

OK, an innocent question: R u a n00b ?
Who gives a damn about Shield-recharge, it has NEVER been able to keep up with the kind of fire that Battleships can dish out, not matter what setup you have ! Shieldboost... yes, Shieldrecharge... NO.
