So I was AFK hauling through empire...

Xaen Caldari Caldari Provisions	Posted - 2007.11.30 15:57:00 - [1] I know, I know AFK hauling is risky, so I took several precautions. 1) I was using a T1 frigate, not a hauler. 2) I had three WCS fitted 3) I even had a medium shield extender stuck on (a t1 frigate!) 4) I had fitted an afterburner and had something heavy on the activation key for it I came back in from my living room to check on things and just barely happened to notice that I was being targeted. I thought little of it, since I was in high sec, in a t1 frigate etc etc. But I sat down anyway just to keep an eye on things. And I notice that it's a manticore. Mild trepidation. Frigates are the optimal target for bombers. Usually takes 1 volley. And then the lil bastard fired on me! Wiped out half my shield. What was shocking is I didn't 'splode. Before he got off the second volley CONCORD got him. Yay! So I thought, what the heck I'll go see if he dropped anything good. I putter over to his wreck and he dropped a bunch of t1 crap. Shouldn't have surprised me since he was suicide ganking. I didn't touch anything IN the wreck, but I noticed some sort of "you did something vaguely criminal or aggressive or something" message. Not sure exactly what it said thanks to the CCP's brillant design of the notification tool tips I missed the whole message. But the next thing I know someone ELSE is shooting at me. So I assumed I had done something naughty, though I hadn't a clue what since I didn't take anything from the can, and what made even less sense was that someone else seemed to have gotten kill rights on me. So I slam the jump button and hop right through. Escape first, and ask questions later. And I figured that was enough AFK hauling for one day so I docked. I was only about half done with my sojourn, but I decided I'd taken enough risks for the day. Analysis of the game log shows what happened... Looks like mafutero hit me with a CN Paradise cruise, some small turret, and two CN Devastators. 40 seconds later later his buddy Soulr3aper in a Ferox hit me with four CN Havoc missiles. It also turns out the tool tip I thought was directed at me was actually directed at Soulr3aper. Which makes sense in retrospect, though it sure would have been nice to be able to read it before it disappeared. This isn't a whine, I knew the risks I was taking when I decided to AFK haul, just thought it was an interesting story to share. -- Support fixing the EVE UI \| Suggest Jita fixes

Not a T1 frigate. 2) I had three WCS fitted Won't help, if you are to be exploded it will be when afk flying toward the gate and now when warping after jump 3) I even had a medium shield extender stuck on (a t1 frigate!) Good idea with the shield extender however. Did you also fit passive shield hardeners? 4) I had fitted an afterburner and had something heavy on the activation key for it The key needs to be pressed (KeyDown 'message'), simply holding it will not work. Or does it? A wolf with shield extender, passive shield resist and overdrives would be much better _and_ faster. - Vanlade

Minimum required cargo capacity, fast align & warp, readily available ship, slapped on a couple on-hand modules. I spent maybe 2 minutes preparing. Now if I was hauling 51 copies of Capital Ships skillbooks like that one fool in a shuttle, I'd put more effort into it, but I was moving <100M. -- Support fixing the EVE UI \| Suggest Jita fixes

OP: you might try a bigger ship and fitting extenders / plates (and resists if you want). A battleship works well, a passive drake even better. You'll go slower but you're bargaining CONCORD time by adding HP, effectively increasing the ISK value and skillpoints in ships needed to attack your cargo, making the payoff to the attackers less profitable and much more risky.
