Winner of the thread.
Not really, since all that stuff about the human eye only being able to see 25 fps is complete nonsense...
Probably stick with classic myself, mostly unimpressed with what I've seen of Trinity so far.

Interesting.
Those who CAN'T upgrade, would so even with a loss of FPS.
Those who can, don't because of a loss of FPS.
Partly atleast.

Edited by: Plutoinum on 04/12/2007 08:27:31 I'll be switching between the modes. So far I haven't tried the classic content on Sisi, because I had enough fps to play there with the new content. I don't use shadows, don't care much about them in a space game. Hdr has not really a noticable performance hit for me, bloom drags the fps down a bit more though. If I can't get decent fps in blobby situations, then I'll just restart the client in classic mode, before I join a fleet.

I tried upgrading my card from a x800 to a 8600GT, but my PC was having none of it, just beeped at me whenever I tried to boot up (although my mobo is good enough to support it, sent the card back) and now my HD is on the fritz with windows claiming that sometimes it doesn't exist.. also the boot up sequence is different (when it decides to boot), displaying a new screen... sooo, no I won't be upgrading :P but I will be buying a new computer as soon as my ****e job will pay for it.

Once get new pc will run the new one look at how sexy my nyx is.. then go back to the classic, unless the better graphic one handles better in laggy fleet fights etc, cant really see that being the case tho.

I hate upgrading. I don't see the point, it's so stupid. I play eve on my 486 and sometimes I play my favorite game on my atari, pit fall. But all the new consoles out there and all the new computer equipment, why?
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY UPGRADING IT'S POINTLESS.
486 ftw atari > all consoles
ps, don't upgrade because of some game or software, legacy hardware is best. Always.
macs are cool too.

I'm going to have 2 clients, on premium and one not until I get a good feel for how my pc performs. With the premium graphics my pc seemed to run it fine unless I had a caldari stargate in view as then my fps dropped with an almost audible clunk .

my machine's well above the required curve for the new graphics, and I've noticed a substantial increase in my average FPS when running the Trinity premium client, so I'll most definitely be upgrading. -

They are wrong... how ?
Anything above frame per 9 per second is already enough to create the illusion of continuous moment, and gaining 0.02 seconds when firing on your opponent in eve doesn't give you an edge. Eve isn't an reflex-based FPS. Actually, even in FPS, it doesn't give you an edge either.
Besides, the continual server lag present in Eve prevents client from reacting faster than 20 or 30 FPS can show (about 30 - 80 ms is standard in eve, AFAIK).
So getting more than 20 FPS is more than enough to play properly.

I haven't had a decent computer in over a decade, so this is as good a reason as any to upgrade. I just have to get the money to buy a new Laptop or build a powerful tower to run the premium content.

I'll upgrade eventually, but not at first. Frankly some of my favorite ships are gonna be bleedin' fugly with the new content, and I'd rather stick with lower polygon count and paint schemes that don't make me want to smash my head on my desk. _________________ [SAK] Alumnus--And Proud Of It! -- aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

Edited by: Fire Born on 04/12/2007 15:25:31 CPU : AMD Duron 1.4GHz O.C to 1.65 GPU : XFX Nvidia 7900 GS ( APG ) Memory : 3x 512MB Kingston Value Select SFX : Creative X-Fi Extreme ( To hear the awesome effects of Guns going off )
Everything else is no name brand mods...I had no idea what I was doing when I bought the Memory ( 2 or 3 years ago) I know it bad now. I now relize how bad my CPU sucks, but no cash atm to upgrade.
When I first started I had a Mx/Mx 400 Nvidia , 15 FPS in Station, 7 outside, 2 in PVP. I loved eve so much I droped 175 on that card ;_;. I get 30FPS in Station, and 17ish in PVP. Problem is CPU still sucks, theres no CPU's for Socket A Mobo's and I dont have the cash for c2d as of yet.
I tried the new patch on the testy serv, I got 0.8 in PVP Given it was like 15 people on the field, but Im in an Alliance and PVP comes with it on bigger scales then that .
Conclusion : Safe to say I WILL NOT be upgrading to the new Graphic Engine anytime soon.

Most of the lag in Jita and .. well in the game as a whole, is a bug created by design. You never, ever tie in the networking engine with the graphics engine .. programming 101 ;) Graphics should be done on it's own thread separate from the rest of the game, at a minimum.
Can someone confirm if CCP fixed this basic design bug yet?

I build a whole new computer the other day, and it can run the trinity engine. So I will be upgrading (66.4% download complete). However, my old laptop cannot. It's being delegated to the task of running my cyno alt in classic mode --------------------------------------------------------------------

A quick test (Read: opening the market window) indicates that they have not. Screen-freeze until data is available still seems to be the norm.
