For example, how can you delete a file by mistake. Already explained quite clearly here:
Originally by: El'essar Viocragh There comes a time in one's life where one learns why using relative paths in scripts is bad.
Sometimes you delete half your harddrive, sometimes other peoples boot.ini.
Your installer asks for the installation directory. Save that as $BASEPATH
Do not cd into $BASEPATH and work with relative paths from there. Bad things happen along that road.
Prefix all you relative paths with $BASEPATH.
- BAD!
- cd C:\Games\Eve
- del \boot.ini
- del otherfile.txt
- ...
- GOOD!
- del C:\Games\Eve\\boot.ini
- del C:\Games\Eve\otherfile.txt
- ...
Safe-guards for those typos were put into realpath libraries long ago. Use them.
If that's too hard for you to understand then stop asking anyway because you aren't going to under the answer.
Another great example is FHPhantom and his "I lost data doing a system restore" whining. Once again, reading things would saved his data by allowing a recovery by typing a few lines of text into notepad with no nothing else on the system changed.
The only people who have a case for claiming compensation are those with access to only one PC who have little choice but to get it repaired professionally.
But then they won't be on the forum whining because they don't have access to the internet!

Try, x:\Windows\PSS
Wait for the "Drive X: not found" message!

I suspect that you didn't follow all of the instructions. Make sure you did the "Check All Boot paths" step and say yes to remove the ones that don't exist.
You should also set the default entry and if you have more than 1 boot partition set the timeout value to 5 seconds. This should mean that you don't get the menu at all if you have one partition and the menu will only hang around for 5 seconds before booting the default config if you have more than one.

ARE YOU NUTS???? I'M SORRY, SIR, ARE YOU STILL LIVING IN 1990???
FYI: 1) I'm replying from my office computer 2) Also I (and others) can use mobile devices (like mobile phones, PDAs, etc) or PS3 (or other consoles) for browsing internet 3) I could go and ask my neighbour for an access to internet- just to find what's going on 4) Internet coffees? 5) 1000+ other ways to access internet.
WAKE UP! THAT'S XXI CENTURY!
Which was my point. If you can get on the internet then you can access the many many ways to sort this out that are listed in this thread.
btw, where can I get an internet coffee and is it better than a real one?
btw, internet cafes still incur expense.
