And for alot they got extra with a free boot from there computer :D.
I gota be honest the gfx level is cute but isn't a large a leap as was implied. That said its early days and more akin to the initial release of SOURCE for the original counterstrike.
What is kinda ironic is soooo many people in the past been after a option to reduce gfx levels and we get a option to increase them - have to smile at that.
Personaly I'm still debating going with the classic as not seeing much of an advantage if any at all with regards to playability and even though I got all the bells and whistles to run it, I cant help but feel that the spasmotic frame hits is something that would need something 4x the power of a GTX8800. I already run eve on a seperate disc to the OS and indeed have seperate disc for my temp/swap (3x raptors at that) so I've got alot of mitigating factors already covered.
Its free, its cute but I probably had more wow factor watching a mining laser first couple of months ingame. But its still very very very early days and I aint seen a mom/capital blow yet with the patch, so I'll reserve final judgement, a judgment that is for me and my tastes and everybody else can do what they like. I know I do :).

I really don't believe you can create a case for removal of a boot file, especially since no data was destroyed. This setback can be fixed, with relative ease. With the amount of time CCP have put into developing this free graphics update, surely dedicating a few minutes to fixing the boot (If you were indeed affected) wouldn't be too much to ask?
CCP have done a top job in developing this free graphics update which you can enable/disable at will. If venting steam on the forum makes you feel better, then by all means go ahead, but don't spoil it for the rest of us. If you're not happy with the update and want to leave due to a minor setback, then go ahead and leave.
And my praises go out to CCP, yes, CCP! Why? Because they've spent over 24 hours adding this update, and additional "overtime" quickly amending any bugs.
And to all those rantaholics - Stop EXAGGERATING. :) I'm sure there will be further amendments to patch up any problems that exist in Trinity - just have a little patience!

Infinity will undoubtedly flop. Eve has had YEARS of experience, and is a solid, widely established game with a massive active player base.

I'm half and half on this subject...at first I was really impressed by the new visuals, then diappointed as some of them do look pretty bad (textures), but then I was impressed again....seeing the sun and light glare off my Hurricane looks awesome! as well as the nebula reflecting in the solar panels (or whatever those are that minny ships have) I'm sure once they add new planets, backgrounds and effects the game is gonna look SICK!! But yeah...some of it looks dope as hell and some of it..eh could be better. I mean ****, its no UT3 or Crysis (but I wasnt expecting that) but it was free and for the most part it looks great!

Kharadran: You make a graphic point. Since I do not feel that the new graphics live up to the expectations and hence do not agree with you, I should naturally be punished by means of violence.
Zinras: Your whole point is moot being as I have not demanded anything in return for my subscription. Even if the Premium content was required neither of us would have any say in the decision-making or direction surrounding EVE apart from what consideration CCP give the feedback from the player base.
That being said and as already stated; IÆm voicing my opinion on the new graphics and I was originally interested in hearing what others thought. From what IÆve heard CCP is a company that takes pride in listening to its player base when it come to changes in the game. This will inevitably likely mean nothing as itÆs easy to see that I am in the minority of players who do not like the new graphics or who do care.
I still withhold that I was disappointed with the new Premium content which I expected would make EVE as visually attractive as it was when it was first released and which was to last another 5 years. However this has sadly proven to not be the case.

Point taken. However I believe your disappointment to be a bit out of proportion. Have you tried adjusting settings in your graphics driver menu? ------

My point was actually that since it's free and because CCP tends to care about their players (as in, no forced download of new gfx and that the new stuff can be viewed on fairly average comps), you shouldn't expect "OMGWTF" graphics, even when seeing a trailer.
Also, EVE really isn't about the graphics anyway.. If it was, people would have left ages ago (just look at the planets etc -- Not exactly bad but the textures could use an update.. Same with background and 'roids).
I do believe they also plan on updating the look of other stuff in later expansions, so at least wait until you have the full package. And who knows? They might add some more detailed textures as an option later on.

I've been really impressed by the graphics update, personally-- particularly the self-shadows. They add a tremendous feeling of weight to the ships when they rotate around, or when they pass a sun in warp and the shadows move around. The stations look amazing as well, especially the Caldari stations and that Gallente station with all the rotating bits.
The only place I've seen a poor texture job is the area right beneath your ship when you dock in a station. If you're in a small ship, the texture looks pixelated because you're up so close. In a big ship you never even see it because you're not in that tight, but in a small one, it looks like ass. They should texture that one small spot with a high res texture of it's own, rather than just letting it be the same resolution as the rest of the ground.
Other than that, I've been having a blast just looking at all the ships and stations.
Are they going to update the planet/asteroid graphics, too?

I've tried to defend players in most of these posts, but this one is too funny.
Sure, the upgrade wasn't nearly what I expected. The ships and items DO look marginally better in all cases, and quite a bit better for things like stations, and old ships like the vex that used to just suck.
But, give me a break. A lawsuit because the upgrade wasn't all we expected?
If they also upgrade planet affects, star and general space entity effects - then it will be a force to be reckoned with for sure.
If they let us walk around stations and see each other, look out windows, it will be amazing.
If we can land on planets, flow over their surfaces, that will be epic.
At that point, this game will be untouchable in its complexity and depth of environment and quality.
I don't care if Crysis looks better. They don't have 30,000 people logged into it.

hope this is true. I like what they have done sofar i know the graphics are not the best but i mainly play eve for the fun of the game not what it looks like. If i wanted decent graphics i would play COD4 or Crysis all day
should i create a mirror backup of comp before next patch though lol never know what they might try to delete next

I am glad to see the influx of constructive posts in this thread over the last few hours. My interest in hearing what others thought about the subject was what made me post in the first place.
Kharadran Sullath: You are right; my disappointment will undoubtfully seem bigger than it really is seeing as how I chose to only point out the negative aspects that I have found with the new Premium content. The screenshots in my original post are central to all my statements.
The textures that I feel look horrible up close in general look much better from afar as the extra detail is no longer perceptible. The models are improved but less complex than what could be expected from something being released at the end of 2007; again only evident from not too far off.
The shaders on the ships and interiors of stations that IÆve seen are the least pleasing of the lot. Metal surfaces that are supposed to appear smooth such as engine casings and station panels are bumpmapped to oblivion.

This is an MMORPG, which usually have low texture resolutions. Just look at Hellgate London, World of Warcraft and Warhammer Online. I believe MMO's have low textures to make it easy on the memory, as to not create a choppy experience. Shaders, lightning and shadows *****your processor, and only affects the FPS.

I think she was taking a ****. Her lawyer is Jack Thompson, the in-game screenshot of Need For Speed Pro Street was an actual photograph of a car, and one of her posts said 'TROLL' if you took the first letter of every line.

Originally by: Yun Mishara Edited by: Yun Mishara on 06/12/2007 12:16:45 I downloaded the Trinity patch and the premium content last night after the servers came back up and proceeded to boot up the game. My first impressions were sadly very disappointing; I was expecting exceptional quality and "future proof" graphics having seen the trailers from CCP but instead all models/texturing turned out to be less than average quality for a game released at this point in time.
Below is an album containing a few screenshots showing of some horrible texturing, so horrid in fact that I'm unsure as to if it is supposed to look this way. The screenshots can be downloaded to view them at the full 2560x1600 resolution they were captured in.
http://picasaweb.google.com/tsebring/EVETrinity/
Apart from the overall low-quality texturing and awful shaders the new ship models also have noticeably low polygon count which makes all curved surfaces look edgy and unsmooth when viewed up close.
The screenshots were captured on my computer running Windows XP on a C2D E6600, GeForce 8800GTX (Forceware 163.71), 2GB DDR2 at 2560x1600 (4xFSAA/16xAF/HDR-off/Normal shadows).
Edit. Fixed link
Basically, STFU..i think CCP has done a fantastic job considering this is only Direct x9 which, afaik is the same DX that Battlefield 2/2142 and half life 2 run on. now look at the textures of half life 2 and battlefield2...DO THEY LOOK EVEN HALF AS GOOD AS THE TRINITY TEXTURES?!?!? No! they dont..if you want awe inspiring textures go play crysis or wait till next november for the DX10 version of EVE and ambulation or whenever it comes out. Otherwise i suggest u shut up and put up .. i for one am extrememly impressed with the improvements made by CCP specially considering that i am a 3d artist myself.

As always, the more vocal part of the EVE-community show how little attention they are worth.
Show me ANY MMO that can rival the graphics of the new EVE-engine. Show me ANY MMO that does that and has such a complex world and supports 40,000 simultaneous players connected to the one same server.
As for the boot.ini-file, that's pretty a pretty damn stupid thing that shouldn't have passed through testing. But it did, and if it caused you a lot of harm - then you probably would be better off with an XBOX.
It's amazing how spoilt, whiny, self-important, thoughtless and generally unappreciative some people are. Just shut your spoilt traps and go cry in mommy's laps instead of here. Kthxbye.

Couldn't have said it better myself I cannot believe that all the time and effort that has been put into this from a relatively small game developers company over the last 2 years is being ignored by a small minority of the EVE Community. Overall i think people like the new graphics dispite the numerous and humourous glitches in the game atm
This is the last you will hear from me ont his matter as i agree with Tobias entirely...some people in the eve community really aren't worth the attention they crave... ------------------------
