Charity is the best sig maker in Eve... with the possible exception of Riz.
And her new line is amazing...I can't wait for her to roll those sigs out... -------------------------------------------- Dead

One strain of thought could be that there's something very disrespectful to women when a bunch of men get together and roleplay women in what seems to be a very submissive and oppressed way. In fact, there may be cause for extreme offence. If it's all in the name of roleplay it's alright though isn't it... Yes I agree, the artwork is very nice.

fras, there is also something rather offending in being shot in the head. However, in games, it's all right.

Again, do not assume that we are all men. Jericho has female players, and they are worse than the men for innuendo, believe me. -------------------------------------------- Dead

Certain aspects of games are easily detached from reality and others arn't. The social aspect of any game irrespective of setting is the most real of all, it's just a different medium to life outside computers.

No, fras, in fact it is different. That is what roleplaying is about, and from this we we come back to the square one. To roleplay is among other things to detach the social aspect of the game from reality and detach the character from the players. Failing to understand this leads to these flamewars time after time.
Paople do not understand the concept of detaching themselves from the character. It is not required for every one to do so, that is not what I am implying. Not every one needs to roleplay. But to pass judgement without understanding what is being judged is not wise, and it is being pretty generally done with very little understanding in this and other threads in this forum.
As to whether or not it is a roleplaying game or not, I urge people to see what is the forum one above this.
Again, not every one needs to roleplay, but griefing roleplayers is exactly the same as carebears wanting to remove PvP from Eve. Forcing own playstyle on others.
Respect to other players is very underrated in Eve community, I am sad to notice. This too is because people have trouble detaching themselves from their characters.

In a real life setting would that make it ok? If the answer is no, the only other question is is the social aspect of this game detached enough from reality to not make it offensive to women in any way?

I dont think anyone has a problem with males playing females or vice versa. It's just getting to a level now where ppl start to wonder why some of you dont just play Sims Online.

Karol Kei, IC or OOC, maybe someone would feel exactly the same way? I respect roleplay and like it myself, it adds alot to the game. However I don't like it when it touches on aspects of reality in an offensive way for no discernable game reason.

I get offended by stupidity every day. Look a George Bush. What am I to do, call for a tax on stupid people? Lock all stupid up?
I know what you are trying to say, and its all very worthy, but a line has to be drawn somewhere. I do not feel that anything we do in Eve is demeaning to anyone, if it was, I certainly wouldn't be doing it.

Fedmahn, I don't have a naughty sig, I am nice. ;)
Anyway, the game is still the game, roles are just inserted in that game for fun and laughs for all. It is very hard to see how sex maniacs that some play hurt anyone anymore than playing a murdering lunatics, cannibals, orcs or knights in shining armor etc. If you go down that way, you have to consider all the values of every role. For example in case of a prince on a white stallion you would find them rather male chauvinist, wouldn't you? How about those Minmatar rebels? Uh oh. Etc.
So once again it boils down to detaching characters from players, once that is done, it is all in good humour for those who like that sort of stuff.
Well, it would be, if there weren't all these flamefests that take the wub out of the community and divide it into two with no good reason.

Why are you assuming that being submissive is offensive to all women? Many people of both sexes enjoy giving control to another as part of their erotic play. Many people would consider assuming all of any one gender think and feel the same way about anything as offensive.

TBH why should Jericho give a crap what those people think? We play the game they way we want. Anyone who doesn't like it can get bent.

Maud Dib, read the quote again. I was asking the question hence it's my opinion, singular.
I'm not talking for all women and I take your point. However if the number is 50%, 10% or 1% none are acceptable imo if what I was trying to say has any merit. This is what I was trying to discuss.
I now see Miso's point of view and it's fair enough. I differ in opinion but I've said all I wanted to say.

I'm for the sigs, adds some spice :) Lord Zap has a point, if you don't like it, don't look at them. Stop expecting the world to cater to your personal beliefs. This directly relates to the world, women are revealing in movies, TV shows etc. Who is to say what they do is not demeaning? Because they are women it's ok?
JF has women in it too, how do you know which women are making the pretty sigs and which that are men pretending to be women?
