I think this has worked for me - I only get the flickering when I have a window minimised on my screen, close the window or have it open and I think the flickering stops.
Will test more, but try it and see.

same here, happens randomly, not workaround found yet, has an impact on performance, mostly objects like astoroids, especially in deadspace, constant flickering of the names also, like if you click it.

Can you who are experiencing this please send us a bug report on the issue with reproduction steps, screenshots and logs so that we can look into this. That would be very helpful.

Edited by: Cyberus on 09/12/2007 17:39:29 Damnit. i just did read that topic 3 hours ago and was happy this is not happence to me. But i was wrong:(. Just 5 minets ago i got exact same experiance with "flikernng" screen. Its seems to me that windowed mod of EVE do very fast swap between desktop and the game window so you cant even get the screen shot of that. + even if you do it will still get picture in game. I did recognize that because i have TRINITY wallp. on my desktop and when i did look much better i saw that ships on the picture.
I suspect it has something to do with windowed mode of EVE. So guys tell if you have that bug only while windowed or also in fullscreen?
And its not only NVIDIA problem i run ATI here.
Dual core e6600 asus p5w dh 2gig dual ram x1900xt GC
running eve always windowed.

I reported this bug last night and got a response an hour ago - they're aware of the problem and have added my comments to the existing issue in their tracking system.
As others have reported, if you find a workaround, PLEASE post it here. We finally have a good thread that can be tracked.

I have this problem, exept the screen does not flicker, only the text naming the selected item, some NPC icons and some mission structures.
I never encountered it outside of missions either.

I've developed the same flickering problem. I also loose the ability to lock a target for a time. This issue seems to be driver based. I have not had this problem until I upgraded my Nvidia drivers. I would roll them back if I could for a test but I'm not sure which version I had previously.

Edited by: Seth Allasatre on 10/12/2007 07:32:56 Well, I don't know why, but the problem did not occur for me today at all while using the premium graphics. I ratted and ran anomalies that have caused the issue in the past few days, but not a single text/item flicker.
Is it possible that switching to classic for a while and then switching back to premium changed something? Heck if I know, but I hope it stays fixed.

I previously had this issue, but installing the new nvidia forceware drivers that were released very recently for my gf7600 GS r2, fixed the issue.
I would suggest installing the most updated drivers, and if that doesn't work... then file a bug report as CCP has said.

\o/ I'm not alone :D
I've had this problem too since the premium stuff. I had updated the drivers of my old 6800 pro nvidia card beforehand so i have no idea if the problem would've been there with the old drivers.
The thing is... I don't remember having this issue when i was doing lvl 2 missions for my research corp. Only when i started doing lvl 4's again.
I've never submitted a bug report before since i've been lucky enough to have very few problems but i'll try and make a good one for this.

It happened to me too. It's not selection only which is flickering. If you look closer you can see some objects (ships) moving left and right by one pixel.

Yep, happens to me too. Targets flicker and the entire screen is 'shivering', it's mostly noticeable on the star background.
Also I noted my computer starts clicking incessantly whenever I target anything on my HUD, probably from disk activity.
When I start the resource monitor in Vista I get a lot more pagefaults per second on the memory tab (from 0/1 per second to like 5-10/s), and the disk has a lot of loading activity on EVE .stuff files.
I also noticed after a while (few minutes) this stopped, and the flickering dissapeared, so maybe it's an issue of when EVE is seeking around the .stuff files for models etc.

I think I'm experiencing this as well. I'm in space, I select an object and the text begins to flicker constantly, very fast - just in space, not on the overview.

EDIT: Was able to reproduce it. In space I opened the market to Search... typed in a ship name and clicked on it to show the prices... flickering started again.

I'm not able to write down a step by step instruction in order to reproduce this effect. It hits my client at any situation so far. It doesn't matter if I'm on a mission, at jump gates or in front of stations. I even get the dramatically fps drop inside stations (but without flickering, because there are no selections). But logging this effect seems to be hard, because sometimes I can play 3 hours without the problem, sometimes it hits me within several minutes. So far I wasn't able to get a useful logserver output. Still trying

Same issue. Busy scenes seem to cause it. Some of the objects in space flicker, along with their tag. Docking cures it.
I'm going back to the classic client until this is sorted.

I just had this happen when three small NPCs spawned while I was sitting in an asteroid belt.
Docking seemed to fix it for me, though for a lot of people this isn't an option, So I hope CCP can track this one down.

I have the same exact issue with the Trinity graphics.
To the Dev: It's a little hard to come with a good screenshot as the name of the object you currently have selected continually flickers on the side of the window or the corners. I took one screenshot of the problem in question, but the flickering name did not appear in the screenshot.
The problem occurs regardless of graphics settings set for your computer as I have tried as many known combinations possible. It also occurs anywhere from within 10 minutes to 2 hours of playing the game. Many times you would be unable to select the target and would have to be very close to it to even select it. Once you are able to select the object, the name of the object selected would flicker off to the far side or corner.
At that point I would quit the game and restart it. I have tried deleting the cache, turning off the cache, going to 24-bit instead of 32-bit. I have also tried turning off HDR and lowering Shadows. But, whatever I try, nothing would fix it.
Also, another issue I have noticed with Trinity: After an hour to two hours into the game, the game would periodically pause or skip. Example would be while mining or fighting, and the whole scenery pauses for a second or two then the animation returns to normal. After two to three minutes, it pauses again then returns to normal. It does this continually until I shut off EVE and restart it.
I thought the following were the cause of the problems:- Drivers: Latest drivers installed, other 3D games exhibit no problems. - Heat issue with card: Temperature at normal limits, no overheating. NO other 3D games have the same issue. - Insufficient memory: 3GB DDR2 RAM and 6GB paging file. So, it can't be a memory issue. - Fragmented hard drive: Hard drive is not fragmented and has no errors after a thorough scan. If this can be fixed, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
