Plausable Swap

The only way I can describe this is a flicker.
On my space (not overview) when I try to mouse over anything, nothing comes up when I am on something, instead the icons just flicker and I have to click at least 10-20 times before it actually selects something. When something IS selected, it flickers on the sides of my screen and where it's selected, sometimes near the cursor.
Fixes? ++

I've been out ratting and this has happened 4 times now. I've had to relog the client.
What happens is you warp into a belt or something and as you're targeting one of the ships names ex. "Patriarch Drone" will start to flicker very quickly. The screen shakes as well, up and down and it makes me dizzy as all hell. It makes it near impossible to click things in space, like trying to write a note while having a seizure. ------------------------------------------------ Anyone got a good compression tool for EVE sigs? |

Yeah, this is sort of what I've experienced with it. Kinda makes you sick after a bit
Changing targets worked once or twice for me but usually doesn't.

Yup, same flickering issue here as well, all name tags flicker non-stop, asteroids flicker bigger and smaller, screen is shaking slighlty, havn't figured this one out either. I did close the market and a few other windows and it went away, but that only fixed it one time out of pure luck. Also running premium graphics without any of the other new features on.

Have you checked that you have a graphics card that is valid for the premium graphics and that you have updated the drivers for it?
The shader 3 technology is hardware implemented in the card and if commands are sent to control this and the hardware is not present this could cause problems, and also if the drivers are out of date so it is worth checking for this

Also suffering this issue.
Click an object on OV, object name flickers next to object, but also at nearest edge of screen.
This means that in order to select the item in space (from HUD not OV), I have to mash the left-click.

I have the same problem with the flickering and shaking screen. Here is a 27mb .avi file for your viewing pleasure.
I run 2 accounts, both with premium graphics, and it usually only happens with one of the clients.. Docking cures it, but it's a damn nuisance as it happens again 5-10 minutes later anyway.
My system:
Athlon 64 X2 3800 2GB RAM 256MB GeForce 7800 GS
It happens windowed and fullscreen, at all resolutions up to 1280x1024, with and without AA and AF, HDR, shadows et al.
Be nice to know if there was a fix to this. Tbh it makes the game unplayable.

Galliana. ---------------

I have the same issue. Targeted selection name flickers between the object on the HUD, and the edge of screen. I've also noticed the large collidables flicker at some ranges, as well as the screen seeming to jump slightly. I can live with it (mainly because I play zoomed out a reasonable distance), but a fix would be nice.
System, Intel Pentium IV 3.06 Ghz, 1 Gb Ram, Windows XP sp2, and a GeForce 7600GS card.
I'm just going to try installing new drivers (if there are any). Will report back shortly.

Edited by: Violet Cobra on 08/12/2007 17:00:47 Same thing here. If it happens the framerate drops down to 3fps. After hitting ESC 2 times it works again with normal fps but the flickering selection text is still there. After docking/undocking it's ok again until next fps dropdown. Very strange. Btw, i'm playing with a Radeon HD2600Pro AGP with latest Catalyst 7.11 drivers. So it's not a NVIDIA problem. Seems to be a problem in EVE.

I have had this happen too, not sure you will like my solution but for me it fixed the issue.
What are the effects you will see? When you target or select anything on your screen the selected / targetted items will show their descriptions shortly then "loose" the description where the description appears somewhere on the screen edge. Asteroids, buildings basicly anything will schrink and grow very fast. You will have VERY bad FPS while this happens and relogging only is an temporary fix.
What is the cause? The new trinity grpahics.
How to solve this issue? Go to the escape menu and disable the new trinity graphics at the "display & graphics" tab or if you have an non eve premium 2nd client overwriteing the first one with it *. * Note that you need to backup cache first otherwise you might have to reset all your settings.

I agree that the premium graphics are at fault. I switched back to classic this evening and ran two anomalies and a 4/10 deadspace complex. Performance was excellent from start to finish - no flickering, no lockups, etc.

I'm sure there's a way to fix this problem without reverting to classic. We should all reinstall the eve client (premium) and toy with the settings and see if we can find a solution (changing buffer size, etc)
If you do, don't forget to post it here! (classic is not a solution!)

Edited by: Cyberus on 09/12/2007 17:39:29 Damnit. i just did read that topic 3 hours ago and was happy this is not happence to me. But i was wrong:(. Just 5 minets ago i got exact same experiance with "flikernng" screen. Its seems to me that windowed mod of EVE do very fast swap between desktop and the game window so you cant even get the screen shot of that. + even if you do it will still get picture in game. I did recognize that because i have TRINITY wallp. on my desktop and when i did look much better i saw that ships on the picture.
I suspect it has something to do with windowed mode of EVE. So guys tell if you have that bug only while windowed or also in fullscreen?
And its not only NVIDIA problem i run ATI here.

Yep, happens to me too. Targets flicker and the entire screen is 'shivering', it's mostly noticeable on the star background.
Also I noted my computer starts clicking incessantly whenever I target anything on my HUD, probably from disk activity.
When I start the resource monitor in Vista I get a lot more pagefaults per second on the memory tab (from 0/1 per second to like 5-10/s), and the disk has a lot of loading activity on EVE .stuff files.
I also noticed after a while (few minutes) this stopped, and the flickering dissapeared, so maybe it's an issue of when EVE is seeking around the .stuff files for models etc.

I'm not able to write down a step by step instruction in order to reproduce this effect. It hits my client at any situation so far. It doesn't matter if I'm on a mission, at jump gates or in front of stations. I even get the dramatically fps drop inside stations (but without flickering, because there are no selections). But logging this effect seems to be hard, because sometimes I can play 3 hours without the problem, sometimes it hits me within several minutes. So far I wasn't able to get a useful logserver output. I have the same exact issue with the Trinity graphics.
To the Dev: It's a little hard to come with a good screenshot as the name of the object you currently have selected continually flickers on the side of the window or the corners. I took one screenshot of the problem in question, but the flickering name did not appear in the screenshot.
The problem occurs regardless of graphics settings set for your computer as I have tried as many known combinations possible. It also occurs anywhere from within 10 minutes to 2 hours of playing the game. Many times you would be unable to select the target and would have to be very close to it to even select it. Once you are able to select the object, the name of the object selected would flicker off to the far side or corner.
At that point I would quit the game and restart it. I have tried deleting the cache, turning off the cache, going to 24-bit instead of 32-bit. I have also tried turning off HDR and lowering Shadows. But, whatever I try, nothing would fix it.
Also, another issue I have noticed with Trinity: After an hour to two hours into the game, the game would periodically pause or skip. Example would be while mining or fighting, and the whole scenery pauses for a second or two then the animation returns to normal. After two to three minutes, it pauses again then returns to normal. It does this continually until I shut off EVE and restart it.
I thought the following were the cause of the problems:- Drivers: Latest drivers installed, other 3D games exhibit no problems. - Heat issue with card: Temperature at normal limits, no overheating. NO other 3D games have the same issue. - Insufficient memory: 3GB DDR2 RAM and 6GB paging file. So, it can't be a memory issue. - Fragmented hard drive: Hard drive is not fragmented and has no errors after a thorough scan. If this can be fixed, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

The only thing I have found so far is logging. _______________________________________________ RuntimeError: ChainEvent is blocking by design, but you're block trapped. I was having this problem as well. I updated my video drivers and haven't seen the problem for 2 days. (http://laptopvideo2go.com/ for INF files that allow you to install the latest unified driver with your mobile card. ) I also lowered my cache setting on the client to Low. (I am usually running multiple clients).

So far, clearing the cache has fixed it for me. I played for about 4 hours and nothing happened. If it happens again, I will get new drivers. _______________________________________________ RuntimeError: ChainEvent is blocking by design, but you're block trapped. This bug not on the patch notes makes me sad :(
Interesting note: I can only reproduce this bug (without a blob appearing) by searching for an item that is not found in the market. So it may be due to some infinite database query loop thing of doom that forces everything to continuously refresh? Who knows... FEEEKS EEET

Yeah.... sad i did not seen in patch notes about this as well. The client keep hammering hard drives while this problem appers. But its seems to me it helps if i dock in station its stop to do. After i undock sometimes it come back very shortly or dont bother me for hours. Thats is what is most confusing thing aboutthis.
Also i have noticed it do not matter if you are in blob or travel alone in empty systems this problem appers everywhere and start shaking my ass out of chair. [/url] |

I have had this behavior occur and then disappear recently. Never at state change (warp/dock/jump). I thought it might change at zoom (F10), or "look at" (specific target), but these do not affect.
Jitter for a few seconds to many minutes, then stops - sometimes.

Is this still present after the 1.0.1?

Hmm, strange.... since setting shadows to "off" AND cache size from "high" to "normal" the effect almost disappeared. In very rare circumstances I still get the FPS drops (mostly inside of stations when opening IG browser or market).
If this has anything to do with my new settings or with Patch 1.0.1, I cannot say.

I gotta believe this has something to do with the way certain cards cache the data. Though I'm not 100% certain of this. I have a laptop with Vista and an 8600 GT running EVE Trin with high end output and don't see this problem (or if its there, I rarely notice it).
Yet, my 7800GT on my tower system I see this almost constantly. Its VERY annoying, and trying to change settings does nothing for it. Its puzzling. I will try and test with it some as I'd love to see it fixed, but its a pain.

You know, one thing for me that gets the flicker going on my tower is clicking the mouse. Anywhere in the application window. I can be out in a roid belt mining and left clicking anywhere in space a single time with roids in view causes em to flicker.
Its hard as all get out to screen cap, but its easy enough to recreate.
