Man, I hate the jitter. It's the only problem I'm consistently getting in Premium. Goes away when I dock and selecting via overview still works fine, though, so it isn't exactly crippling when it happens in the middle of combat (though it's really irritating to watch). |

I never liked Jita either.
There were some changes related to playing in widescreen mode, is this related to playing with that switched on?

Nope, gotten the jitter does occur in normal window (maybe widescreen but I don't play widescreen). ------- I usually spend some minutes writing a post, usually read it over, decide it doesn't really add anything useful to a conversation and I hit the cancel button. .....This time I didn't hit c |

These screenshots look like issues with the widescreen mode. Any better description of what happens and when it might happen around the "jitter" issue might help us track it back to the cause.

The jitter I have, and I think some others talk about, is that mostly missions structures, icons and the text labeling the selected item blinks in and out of existance at stroboscope speeds. Often with a small relocation effect, ie every other blink is one or two pixels up, then back to original, then up... Some even have their entire screen flicker like this.
I was trying to get it on logserver but I experience it rather rarely.

widescreen mode does something? i've togled it on and off, but couldn't see anything changing. I usually go windowed instead of fullscreen(multiple clients, web browser, and excel work better when windowed) but still at a "widescreen" resolution(1440x900). Would turning widescreen on do anything beneficial?

Someone has sent us an extremely useful fraps video of the jittering bug, and I'll be looking for probable culprits today.
As for widescreen mode - no, there's no real benefit, but it can make it easier to read the UI states for modules etc.

I've seen this, but didn't realize people were calling it "jitter".
I would call it "icon strobing" as jitter is really freaking vague.
Pointless complaining aside, I would like to add, that what seems to be occurring is that the icon for my ship is appearing on top of the target I'm looking at, then switching to the target's icon. Back and forth, very rapidly. Framerate drops to about half while this is going on too. It's pretty much unplayable between not being able to lock anything and getting 20FPS. I was not using widescreen mode. -- Support fixing the EVE UI | Suggest Jita fixes

Running 2 clients also makes the colourful system backrounds on both ship icons and the actual splash backrounds dissapear leaving me with a pure white backround, other people with the same specs as me dont get it, so while this thread is on the go, as to not start ANOTHER one, i'll post the pic here hoping for help.
Only the second booted client throws this error, the primary client remains 100% unnafected (no lag interferance), yet the affected client drops 10x in FPS (in station from 50 to 5)
Using a nVidia Geforce 7600 GS, 1gig ram, Cache set as off on both clients, HDR off, bloom off, Here's an example : Whitescreen Of Dead-Eyes

Not having any problems whatsoever with premium, no "jitter" bugs as you guys seem to have, only issue was overview and fleet interface going missing at times, did a setting reset and 100% working..
Performance is increased ALOT since the patch, much more stable fps, less CPU use, and the game looks WAAAAAAAAAAAY better.
Staying away from AA and high shadow settings is a good way of getting a stable game, and it still looks good unless you zoom in like a maniac, do you really need to do that in the middle of a fight?
Anyway, for all you whiners that keep saying this expansion is crap, remember what they have done here, have ANY other MMO basically remade their entire engine, remoddeled their entire game, and then NOT charge extra money for it? Think about that for a little while before you go shouting "THIS SUCKS!"
Considering the HUGE change in the engine and just stuff in general it's to be expected to have bugs, they did have it bugtested etc etc but would you guys rather wait 6 months for it to be "flawless" (which tbh never will happen, there are things you just can't test without a few thousand people actually playing the game with it)

I can't say that it is tied into the jitter issue. I did have the jitter problem in an ice field. I locked onto a roid, and the name started flashing over and over in rapid succession. When I moved the camera, the flashing name remained, even when the object wasn't the current selection. At one point, the entire screen started to rapidly jitter up and down like 2 pixels.
It was at this point that I went back to classic.
I later went to try the premium again, and the jittering had stoped but now I have that displacement bug in the screenshots. Zoning didn't fix it, nor did reloging, ect.
As far as the displacement, it happens oddly all the time. When I lock an ice roid, the HUD target area is not the center of the roid like it should be, its below it (and I have to target that area with my mouse click to lock lasers onto it.
The disconnection depends on the range and angle of the camera. I took a couple more screens today of it. There is a "point" where if I pan left slightly, the entire billboard including the screen jumps up and away from the HUD location.. whereas a slight pan to the right results in the billboard returning to the HUD location, but the screen remains above it. Here are those screens:
Funky billboard Same billboard, slightly panned to the side
Here are some other shots. The first is of me mining an ice roid. As you can see, my target is not on the roid. The roid I am mining is the large one in the picture nearest to the HUD location. Its a dark system unfortunatly, so a bit hard to tell if I'm BSing or not.
Ice mining
And here is another ship in the belt, same effect. I've "looked at" the ship and tried to manouver it so you can see the ship on the bright nebula background. That's the ship I've selected on my HUD, and yet the HUD is below it.
Hulk in space
As you may notice, I'm very zoomed out. It gets more pronounced the further I am zoomed from my ship/target.
Here's the entire belt, zoomed out.. YOu can see the the zillion GSCs in space, ship HUD icons, ect. and then you see the roids well above them all.
More ice roid fun Another angle
Up close, the cans are all around (top, bottom, sides) of the roids all the way up the field, as they "should" be. Anyway, there you go. =D Hope it helps.

Edited by: Imhothar Xarodit on 10/12/2007 19:32:15 I can also report "jitter" effects.
It always starts after I scroll through a long list of iconized items and it doesn't stop until I close the container.
Happens also sometimes after switching ships in space for a few seconds.
I am not running in the "eidescren" mode of EVE, but my resolution is widescreen.
It feels like if the camera was shaking around at an extremely high frequency and if it happens in asteroid fields, the rocks sometimes switch between 2 LOD levels.

I don't have jitter issues, but I do have the offset HUD issue in widescreen mode.
I almost always play with widescreen on simply because it makes the targeting area and my module list much easier to read, with the main problem being that I have a hard time telling if a module is flashing green or red when there is something bright behind it.
You know, you could give us a way to make just the background immediately behind these UI elements non-transparent so we wouldn't have to use widescreen mode. Eve looks much better using the full vertical resolution of the screen :-)

Aye, I get it too.
I was on my way through the Forge and some gate camping suicide freak targeted my (empty) Bestower. From then on, everything i selected did the "jitter" thing, and worse of all, my FPS dropped to about 20.
Logging out and in was the only way of sorting it. It also happens a lot in missions, could it be something to do with the target animation?

I love how every thread about a trinity bug is all OMGOSH a bug. This is awful, ccps code monkeys suck, im gonna quit eve.
Then if you look back you see the exact same thing after every major patch and it all gets fixed and everyone stays and we end up with lots of new shiny toys.

I stopped using Premium version too.
I didn;t suffer from jitter, but the whole interface seemed laggy. The gfx in missions (like acceleration gates) where awfull, the centerpoint of everything moved close to the object it was for the more you looked closely to it.
My PC isn't spectacular, but I can play 99% of all DX9 games (some at lower resolutions) Classic is the best option for me right now No sacrifice....no victory! |

That caused me a ship with a gatecamp, I couldn't select the warp out.
BTW: anyone at ccp every uses an actual widescreen monitor??? Ever seen any other games using 16:10?? What's with the fricking big black bars on top and bottom?? Never seen any game with them... What?? It causes even more performance decrease?

I am enjoying very much the new client so far. The only, very minor, issue that I have had until now is that, in 1024X760 fullscreen mode, the combat messages "You shot X for 300 damage" go over the range indicator below the target icons.
I don't remember having this before the patch. BTW I will try to make a screenshot for clarity.
