I followed Karishal Muritor. I have aided and abetted the Defiants. I continue to do so proudly and openly.
I highlighted the key part.
Quote: MOLDEN HEATH. Questions are finally starting to be answered in relation to The Minmatar Republic's 'Alfhild' Mothership-class vessel that went missing nearly three weeks ago. While initially there was hope that there was no connection between the disappearance of the 'Alfhild' and prominent Republic captain Karishal Muritor, such hope has proven to be in vain. Captain Muritor confirmed his possession of the 'Alfhild' several hours ago. Muritor made his claim by transmitting the following message to The Republic Fleet before disappearing near the Odatrik system: "If you would stand before me and call this state of affairs in which we are held right and true, then I am sure that it is better for me and my men to fight and die without any right than to live in such a lie." Visual data sent with the message confirms that the message was sent from the 'Alfhild'. With no other transmissions received from the captain following his earlier disappearance, The Republic Fleet has attempted to distance it self from their former compatriot. Pressure from the Amarrian Empire is mounting, according to anonymous sources, as Captain Muritor's motives remain unclear. In a statement issued by the Republic Fleet an hour after receiveing the broadcast, a fleet representative declared Karishal Muritor and all of his followers outlaws. The Republic Fleet also vowed to bring Captain Muritor into Republic custody and promptly dispatched a task force headed by Vice-Admiral Kanth Filmir. The loss of the 'Alfhild' and its carrier group consisting of the 'Magni' and 'Modi' along with secondary fleet assets is one of the largest thefts of military hardware in recent memory. The Republic Fleet confirmed today that they are no longer in possession of the mothership and its escorts, and that Captain Muritor is no longer registered as a Republic Captain, but rather has formed a dissident group known as "The Defiants". The Republic refused to comment on the intentions of The Defiants or of Karishal Muritor. However, experts within The Amarr Navy have speculated that they [The Defiants] will attempt to raid and disrupt operations on the border regions of Amarr space. Several key Amarrian commanders have also spoken out and have suggested that Muritor is still acting on behalf of The Republic Fleet despite the declaration made today by The Republic. The Republic continues to deny all allegations of associating with the rebellious Karishal Muritor.
Now, do Electus Matari claim to speak for the Fleet? Do we all now recieve a pardon from her majesty Midular? at the least a letter of marque?
Thought not.
It sounds like you are having fun over there Darius. Perhaps now you will find it easier to overcome your reservations at pacifying Nefanter colonies and return to your Brothers. Our Thukker kin may be hard but at least they are up front.

Originally by: Jacinda Molanth They outlawed the Khumaak [...]
... in specific occassions, not in general. Most of these situations involve diplomatic contact with the Amarr. As any diplomat will attest you it is not very useful to deliberately insult the person you are trying to talk with. But even in diplomatic situations, carrying a Khumaak is perfectly legal as long as it is covered up. You will find that the Amarr rarely if ever bring slaves to diplomatic talks, specifically because they do not want to provoke us, either. This legistlation is the result of political debate in the Tribal Council. You might disagree with the results, but calling a government corrupt just because it does not do exactly what you want it to do strikes me as odd.
As a side remark, the same legislation resulted in the Amarr freeing of a large number of our people.
Quote: I still believe the death of Admiral Karishal was little more than an assassination
An assassination involves killing of the target as the primary goal. In this case, Muritor's death was not the goal, but a regretable course of action made unavoidable by Muritor resisting arrest. And as you bring up the legality of this, he was a deserter to the Fleet, so the death was also perfectly legal. You might disagree with this being the correct decision, but try not to call it an assassination.
Quote: Now slaves can be bought and sold throughout Republic space, is this GOOD for the people of the Republic?
This change in legislation is solely done by the SCC and was in no way related, affected by, or affectable by the Republic. All four nations face this problem, not just the Republic. None of them was able to prevent it, though I guess all of them would have wanted to. Blaming the Republic for this change in SCC regulations strikes me again as odd, as it presumes the Republic has more influence on the SCC than all three other nations together.
And as another side note: Prior to this, slaves usually were left to die in structures as it was very, very difficult for even well-meaning people to get them to proper care. Was that GOOD for the people of the Republic? The change here results in nothing more than existing slaves changing the hangar in which they are kept. Turning free people into slaves and transporting slaves is still illegal within the Republic.
You are free to disagree with any of these decisions - or even any decision at all done by the Republic. But please disagree with what the Republic actually has decided, or was in any way able to affect.

All this talk about doctrine, policy and parsing bores me. As Kald has stated, this is the time to act. The time to bicker, to debate and to deconstruct points of view is over. It is time to act.
What have you done today to free the enslaved Matari, your brothers and sisters, fathers and mothers?
What will you do tomorrow?

Edited by: Elsebeth Rhiannon on 01/01/2008 14:44:52 Yes, Thrace, the Fleet does have an issue with and there is a warranty on "Muritor's followers", by which the statement to my knowledge refers to that personnel of the Fleet that defected with him. They also do consider the Defiants criminals (having stolen a couple of capital ships, broken their oaths and disobeyed direct orders might have something to do with it).
There is however no indication whatsoever that this would have been by now extended to other pilots so that if they chose to stop 'following Muritor' and come home, they would need to face a trial or persecution, or that they would not be welcome on our stations or our space. For gods' sake, the Republic even keeps on paying you all for work!
It's never too late to come home, Telemicus Thrace. We are waiting for you.
Curry, ask us in space, I don't think descriptions of any of our operations are for public forums that the enemy reads.

We have no reason at all to turn our back on the Defiants. To do so would be to abandon not only our Brothers in arms, abandon our entire cause but to also turn our backs on friends. And if I am supposed to be recieving a paycheck from the Republic still please give someone in accounts a kick. I haven't taken a Republic Kredit since I left for Providence.

And that is an honorable choice, given your position.
I have to point out, however, that it is your choice, not the Republic's.

'Reads latest reports,'
'Thinks to self how few actually fight (have fought) for our children. families. Then how FEW actually fight for others families / children'. Damn shame! The thought that somebody can explain away their race based on a government is enough to make one spit
Then there are those that think that if they defend the Republic that they are helping our tribes. keeping the peace, working for the Min. Rep. What has the Republic really given you?
'Why is it, we as Minmatar, are so different? Do we NOT have the same underlying goals? Why does one side say fight, while the others say pacify? For what the Minmatar people have, was it not gained by the blood of your brother / sisters?
Will it not be retained by our sons / daughters? Only by example I say.
For those that may try to question my loyalty, your best served asking around to friends and foes first.
