Salvaging is so intensely painful, because of the poor range of my Small Tractor Beam module, at a paltry 20 km. In every single of the last 20-30 missions I've flown, enemy wrecks have been dispersed over a very wide area, making salvage a true pain in the butt.
Even a tiny increase of 5 km would be hugely wonderful, and make the game much more fun, and an increase of 10 km would be warmly welcomed.
I am also very willing to pay dearly for this boost.
For instance a module that increases tractor beam range by 50%, with the ship being able to benefit from no more than one such module. Even if the module takes up one of my precious HIGH slots I'd be willing to go for it.
Or a rig. I haven't used rigs yet, at all, but I'd be willing to pay 50M or 100M ISK for a rig that gives me a +50% tractor beam range bonus.
Or a skill that gives a +5% tractor ange bonus per level. I'd be willing to spend 3, 4, even 5 weeks of training time to train such a skill to level 5, just to increase my tractor range from 20 km to 25 km.
Or introduce tech II small tractors with a base range of 25 or 27.5 km.
Or medium tractors with a base range of 25 km or 30 km. That'd motivate me to replace my salvage destroyer with a cruiser or even a battleship (if mediums won't fit on a destroyer).
That's how painful salvaging currently is. That's how desperate I am. I don't care if I have to bleed a lot of ISK, or a lot of training time, to increase my tractor range. I want and need that increase. Badly.
I know that there's this extremely expensive tech II battleship out there with a +100% bonus to tractor beam range, and that's good for them. They need tb e able to salvage very quickly, since they often do it in 0.0 or at least very low-sec.
But I see no reason why their bonus shouldn't stack with either one of the ones I've proposed. If I get my 25 km, I won't begrudge them a 50 km range. Or if I get my 27.5 or 30 km, I'm fine with the marauder guys and girls getting 55 km or 60 km.
Just please give me better range. I'm very willing to pay dearly for it.
This is the number one frustration in the game. Being willing and able to spend money, time and rig slots, to boost tractor range, but not being allowed to do so.

That was actually one of my suggestions, in my original post. But if introducing those, they should be scaled for ship size, in terms of power grid usage and CPU usage, so that a medium tractor beam "suits" a Cruiser, and a large tractor beam "suits" a Battleship.

Medium and heavy tractor beams have been a topic since day 1 when we got basic tractors beams. But due technical reasons all other type of tractor beams are totally impossible to make or produce and they cause gigantic explosion that eat time and space and collapse whole universum if that ever happen.
But dont worry. We have new tractor beam special battleship class in game. Cost only 700 mil isk to get.

Use a faster ship, like a MWD-fitted destroyer.
Or get a Maurauder.
Or a Rorqual, if that fits your application. (I doubt it.)

a medium and large veriant of the tractor beam would be nice. named and t2 would be nice too. and a salvage drone should be implemented there was a skill for them a while.

While I generally agree that there should be a longer range tractor beam, I'd like to ask what type of ship and fitout you are using for salvaging?
I use a Condor with a cold arc jet afterburner, a nano-fiber hull module and three salvagers. I can clean up a level II Blockade mission in 15 minutes. Fitting a small capacitor booster can help a little too.
Tractor beam velocity, as I understand, is 500m/s.
That condor setup does over 1000m/s.

Script have been introduced, tight, so why not a script that increase tractor range for more capacitor use or slower speed?
Another needed fix for tractor beam: correct the annoying bug where, if you are using a AB, even if the speed is way less than 500 ms/, when the wreck/can reach 1500 meters it stop approaching and star going back and forth around the 1500 meters limit.

You salvage because there's money in it. There's money in it because it's a pain to salvage.
Increasing the tractorbeam range is a good change to lower the price of rigs. It isn't a good change if you want to keep your salvage income.
I'd rather see lower price rigs though.
