i thought of a teaser trailer yesterday, and could also double as a tv-advert, something along the lines of :
** fade in ** a fleet of 40-ish battleships floating in space in a wall-like formation. camera pans and zooms to a command ship. command ship captain/FC : "recon one this is fleet command, report in"
**plane shifts from one solar system to another, then zooms call-of-duty-4-ish to a lone cloaked recon ship** recon pilot *with static* : "this is recon one, i have 70 hostiles in system, mostly battleships with small cruiser and frigate support, backed up by a Nyx-class mothership"
**camera pans to the nyx to show off fighters and sheer supercap size**
then i guess anything could happen along the same lines. maybe the attackers would get more ships, or even dreads to help nuke the nyx.. regardless it should result in a fleet battle (without desyncs and lag bombs) and plenty of eye candy. Practically, it would look like a Homeworld fleet battle flick with eve ships and terminology.
that woul be so kickass to see on TV methinks

Bwhahahahaaaaaa! *ahem* *composes self* ******s up laughing again* sorry. green/bluescreen is about an order of magnitude cheaper than fully animated content, and about 500 times faster too... Ah, thankyou Rana, that one made me actually gave me a stitch laughing.
for the overall subject, meanwhile: I suspect that eve is about 25 years too late to catch onto the sci-fi epic craze. but were it to be done, then there's no doubt, it'd have to be directed by Ridley Scott.
Edit: thinking about some of the other comments too, I suspect that things like supercaps would in many ways be best either left out of such a film, or be the setting. titans, after all, are just a little too unoriginal a concept, and carriers are a bit too close to it going into BSG style cliche...

How about a prequel? Storyline based around the Eve Gate, like a before and after.

An EVE movie should be based at the start of the game up to early GNW. Should be a trilogy of 4 hour films (I don't mind to come out straight on 12 hour DVD). Or better a series. (B5 style) Hopefully will not forget Ragnar (and his hat)

The best part in an eve movie would be the point where it comes to a massive fleet battle. FREEEEEEEEZE Blackscreen for 10 minutes, then suddenly you see things popping like fireworks what a beautiful scene. And please cast techno viking as the Minmatar hero to safe the universe. M'kay

Originally by: Arthur Frayn World of Warcraft is getting its own movie, why not Eve?
Lets count the reasons, shall we. And you'll see why we dont need a movie.
1)Eve doesnt have 8 million subscribers?
2) Eve's player base doesnt consist of mainly pre-pubescent teens. These companies (Bungie, Blizzard) prey on the fact that these kids have nothing to do on friday and saturday nights (besides play their e-*****), and make movies to get them to pay MORE money to the company.
3) The majority of the player base doesnt really care about a story. MAYBE on a few items its nice to have back story behind, but tbh, I'd say maybe less than 20% of the community Role Plays and would actually understand a movie based on the game. (20% of 1 million is 200,000 people, WORLDWIDE! Sounds like a recipe for succes tbqfh)
4) They dont aggressively advertise on ANY television for their game. Do you think the ad campaign for the movie would be any more aggressive?
5) Leave the movies to the companies who make games that suck, kthx! (Halo, WoW)...Plus, we dont need more "OMG I JUST WTFPWNTBBQ'D YOUR ARSE, I R T3H UBAR 1337 N00B PWNZ children here.
see where im coming from now? if eve sells out like this, ccp will lose all 3 of my accounts tbh. _____________________

Edited by: Tamia Clant on 02/01/2008 16:43:36 To be honest, I can imagine an EVE related movie, if done right, to be awesome.
However, unlike many posters in this thread, I don't agree the story should be based on player alliances. Let's face it, no matter how great you think the history behind the alliances is, there's no way that's going to fit to a successful's movie plotline.
Another thing are pods, that's a big no-no as well. Self-cloning imortal human beings that control their ships from a pod filled with goo leads to a catastrophic failure if made into a movie. Thankfully, in the world of EVE capsuleers are a minority so it's possible to make the movie's storyline avoid the concept of capsuleers entirely.
Like it has been said, EVE's backstory is very rich and there is great potential in it.

Edited by: MasterDecoy on 02/01/2008 18:13:58 it could be very good indeed. the only problem that i see, and it's already been mentioned, is that pods will alienate audiences. which i honestly don't see as a problem since pod pilots are a very rare breed and don't really interfere so much with everyone else.
just keep them in a supporting role or something.
im just certain it can be done, and be done well, it just depends on how well the novel does i think...
just don't give the right to that ******* ****head bolle or whatever the **** is name is.

The pilots being in pods of goo will definately be a problem.
But I disagree that Half Life would make a good movie. Have you played Episode II? A movie would be a non-interactive version - it could add nothing. The games already involve us in more of a richer experience than a movie on the same subject ever could. (This is the only game I can say that about, by the way)

Capsuleers don't have to be repulsive to the audience. You don't have to focus on them. Picture a series of characters whose goal is to become capsuleers, for example. I don't think it would help the movie or game to approach the fluff of the universe differently by removing capsuleers from on screen.
Also how awesome would it be if the entire movie culminates in the destruction of some evil captain only to have it hinted that he's reborn in the epilogue? You could do lots with an eve movie, you could finally have the empires heat up their cold war into a full blwon conflict. You can have corp thieves stealing secrets. Heck you could even have the notion of alts thrown in there, in a universe where you can transfer your conciousness between 2 clones, why not be able to transfer it into a different body? There is potential for a great movie, whether or not it is ever realised is a different story alltogether.

Good question.
Originally by: Arthur Frayn How would you like to see it done? What kind of director could do it justice? And what would the plot of the movie be?
CGI, an unknown director with a background in animation. Essentially, someone who would look at the CCP artwork and appreciate it.
The plot should be a new story, with completely new characters - that has no resemblance to any other EVE related stories. The only thing they should have in common is they are set in the same fictional universe. Go from there. Transitions from one media to another alienate both sides.
Make something new, and original, and people will watch it.
At the end of the day, we the players would have no say over the film anyway and to a certain degree, once the movie rights have been sold, neither will CCP.

Edited by: Aster Deveaux on 03/01/2008 07:43:16 There's plenty of decent backstory to make a trilogy or even more out of.
You could have one about the gallente-caldari war . . . although it would be pretty damn boring when they all say "I've had enough, lets sit down for a nice chat and a cup of tea" at the end.
I'm sure it could work, but I'm also sure that it wouldn't given the pathetic state of the film industry these days.

Eve has way to much content.
-faction vs faction -alliance vs alliance -solo -and why not some stories based on industry part of the game
So i'm thinking at least 10 seasons, with 20+ episodes each.
All it takes its some1 with a lot of free time to browse the forums and get the stories and then some1 to actually write them :P And then LOTS of CGI
PS: its been a while since ive seen a good movie like Serenity or Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars ..etc, Any ideas?

Close up of Heros pod, dramatic music, pod loaded into ship, with lots of fanfare, hero crew boarding ship, pan across bay.
Ship engines roar into thunderous life, ship tear out of bay at colosal speeds into space, hidden inside much larger ship.
Pan around outside station at various glorius ships. After panning around we find hero ship, approching cargo can marked 'Free Kit'....
Brief flash of monumental weapons fire.

Actually if Uwe Boll would to make an Eve movie, it could be done at a budget. CCP only needs to invest a bit of money in the movie and if it is profitable, everyone gains. A bit of fund wouldn't hurt anyone and more people will get to know Eve. I think it is all good. --------- Technica impendi Caldari generis. Pax Caldaria!
