Edited by: GM Nova on 03/01/2008 20:26:58 Happy Scrappy New Year dear players.
ItÆs time formally submit the rules for the next Alliance Tournament. After reviewing the rules from the last tournament, we have made some point adjustments and clarifications. The rules are quite similar to last yearÆs tournament as they worked out pretty well for the most part.
The most striking change is disallowing pirate implant sets. This will negate the huge advantage some high grade sets were providing.
Faction battleships have been reduced in price by 5 points. We should now see more faction battleships as well as tech two battleships.
The TotalHellDeath bonus has changed; or rather the requirements have changed, making it harder to get this bonus.
Maximum warp in distance has been shortened to 50km.
Apart from other points adjustments these are the changes that have been made. I hereby submit the 5th Alliance Tournament rules for your review.

Question - will hardwirings be allowed or will everyone simply just jumpclone to the tourney system(eg. no implants whatsoever allowed) ?

Secure containers are not allowed to be dropped, but if someone uses a container inside their own cargo hold, and they pop, the can will jettison, would any tournament pilots then be permitted to loot that container? -

Seriously, could we get an answer as to why this is the case?
Good work getting rid of pirate implants. Also, I'd suggest making the subject of the prizes very clear, as there was a lot of confusion and after such a well run tourney (in my mind) it was disappointing that poor communications with the teams caused some to lose out on quite a large sum of isk. It certainly left a bad taste in my mouth. -----

Allowing no rigs is just silly, as pretty much everyone fits them nowadays, no matter the shiptype (bar T1 cruisers and frigs). Especially when there is an entry fee.

Everyone fits warp scramblers nowadays, yet you won't see them in the tournament. Do you know why? The tournament is not TQ PvP. It is a competition and a form of entertainment within eve.
Rigs have just as great an effect as Pirate Implants do on the defensive capabilities of a ship, removing them and implants, and the reduction of the warpin distance, encourages more offensive setups. More offensive setups means more fun matches and fewer ****ty turtle tank wars.
However, i have one enquiry:
Does the Pirate Implant ban cover the other hardwirings also?
and one request:
Increase point reqs on EAS and recon cruisers. Less EW = Better fights :)

a) Why would anyone want to waste their time when winning or loosing can be determined by drunk devs?
b) Make sure you stock up on enough alcohol for the entire final day of competition, then perhaps you wont have to run of to the liquor store and leave the tournament in the hands of some guy in the shipping department.

T2 BS the same points at a T1??
Should deffinatly cost a bit more, given that the golem alone could easily sit and tank 10 ships for 15mins!
If someone fielded 3 Golems, would make for one boring fight!

I was hoping for bigger changes, but most of the tweaks are decent. Faction BS cost was a gimme, but what's with the unmentioned changes of Logistics cruiser cost?
You might want to rethink having EAS cost the same as normal T2 frigs.
THD change is good. Means you can't just go all out gank and must have a balanced setup. Kudos on that.

Since you cannot turn them off in any manner that's trackable by the referees, I'd be highly surprised if they were forbidden. Not to mention it wouldn't make any sense to start disallowing skills all of a sudden.

Hi. I'm new to this thread, and I was curious for some things :
- are ships provided by players ? what if ship is destroyed - player is eliminated for rest of tournament, or he should bring some replacements with him before next match ?
- pod killing (yuck) ?
- entry fee is 1B. how much you can gain ? and if/when entry fee is back - after you made through some stages, regardless of your rank, or after attaining some level ?

Morning all!
I just wanted to throw my hat in the ring and expand a little bit on just *why* rigs are still not in at this point - as this has been very heavily discussed amongst the team. In short - we like the variation and freedom to specialize afforded by rigs, as it draws teams closer to real pvp.
That said - there are some drawbacks to allowing rigs into the tournament - in most cases, rigs serve to draw out fights and possibly make for less expensive-stuff-blowing-up (and we all love seeing that!). Logistics cruisers can take on a whole new meaning when rigged for cap recharge, and of course, you have some rigs that in a tournament setting can make for extremely strong passive tanking, resulting in potential stalemate fights (which are no fun to watch).
On the subject of Implants - it is only the pirate / lp store "sets" that are not allowed. Hardwirings are still fine to use. -- |

I'm quite surprised of the price of heavy interdictors compared to the heavy assault ships.
In a match where you don't have to scramble people as they have no right to warp, how a HIC is better than a HAC? Or does it mean that a HIC is better at everything a HAC does? -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !

You do realize though that the large pilot numbers and the point format of this (and the last) tournament actively encourages cheap tech1 cruiser gangs, worth barely as much in total as one properly fitted battleship, yes?
I think that was one of the biggest flaws in the previous tournament - the fact that it was always quantity over quality. I see no change in this one's rules that seem to indicate that it'll be any different this time around.
In fact, teams will be able to field the exact same cookie-cutter setups as last time: the gank thorax rush may have less HP or less speed now, but the starting distances will be smaller so that is balanced out. The ten caracal missile spam will still work exactly the same, with the exception that the opposition will only be dampened to 15 km instead of 5 km lockrange. Dito the stealth bomber variant. There will also still be three regular armor-tanking battleships and a logistics cruiser, as you can't afford to bring a logistics ship when you switch one of the battleships out for a tech2 or faction one. And logistics >> faction battleship. Active local shield tanking will be completely unviable now, but it was hardly ever used anyway since remote repping and EW >> local shield tanking and no EW.
It would be much more fun if there was a rule change that actually forced people to think up a few entirely new strategies from scratch: for example, leaving the point values as they are but reducing the number of players on the field to 9 per side. Suddenly a full rack of t1 cruisers doesn't cut it anymore, you'll have to mix in something more expensive. Also, combos that use a smaller number of pilots will be just a little more favorable because the opponent cannot mob them down as well by sheer numbers anymore (which works too well with 10 pilots, that is a fact).

Why not? I rather enjoyed watching the HUN logistic pilots working their behinds off keeping the Manticores alive. Not every match needs instant explosions, sometimes the drawn out fights give the viewer more time to analyze the strats and enjoy trying to pick them apart while watching the match. I can appreciate every single match in the tournament, even if it ends in a stalemate with no explosions.

I guess it's because the heavy dictors have a much greater ability to tank than HACs, yet still give out a great deal of damage. I'm not sure on the weighing up of both, but the ship bonuses play a big part.

Since no one has pointed this one out yet, I'd like to note that the Heavy Interdictor / Logistic ship point value must be a typo. 21 sounds sane, 31 quite doesn't.
The earlier question about the point cost is still valid, just wanted to point out this error in the rules listing.

Sign up procedure, prizes and such have not been announced just yet, but are not far off. Keep an eye on the news and on this forum for more info regarding them.
As per the dev blog here, the dates at this point are the first 2 weekends in March (starting 29th Feb). In past tournaments the final day has been the day of the elimination rounds, and this tournament is not likely to change from that.
Hope that helps -- |

Why ? 1. Because too boring. 2. Ishina Fel "I think that was one of the biggest flaws in the previous tournament - the fact that it was always quantity over quality." I think this is the truth. 3. We hope, we will be watching real ships, and real fight, not just frigates. 4. 7 Stealth bomber = 3.5 Raven firepower but more targets and plus 2 logistic. If anyone try use 3 BS, can't use logistic. Consequently: The frigates setup better then battleships. More firepower, more healing. And Caldari power only one faction who can shoot if EW them. They just use F.o.F. but, which module use the gunners ? This tournament not balanced, same as the previous year tourny. Caldari and frigs overpower. :(

hmm, how about making fights more intersting indeed? last tourney was pretty boring only thing making it worth watching was the quite excelent evetv coverage and the fun comments given by the studio audience..
what i would like to see instead of boring ass remote rapping and even worse perma jamming/dampening would be some real "battles"
how about giving predesigned fleet compositions? ie
heavy fleet:
2 battleships , 2 bc, 4 cruisers
Medium fleet:
1 bs, 1 BC, 4 Cruisers, 4 frigates
Light fleet:
1x BC, 3 cruisers, 8 frigates
Now some might say hewavy is overpowered, medium or light is, however, here the fun part, EW and Remote repper points
heavy fleet:
no more than: 2 EW modules of any kind on the entire fleet+ (5x heavy ew drones), 2 heavy remote reppers and 5 heavy remote repper drones
Medium fleet:
no more than: 4 EW modules + 10 medium ew drones, 6 remote medium armor reppers and 15 medium repper drones
light fleet:
no more than: 10 ew modules + 20 light ew drones, unlimited remote repping and unlimited remote repper drones
also for those screaming for more diversity, ie t2/faction ships), id say that there is no difference between faction ships and t1 ships pointswise, t2 ships can be traded for 2x the amount of same clase t1 ships
also, why not give special boni for teams fielding ships from the same faction, ie a pure gallente or a pure amarrian "fleet" would get some 50% extra score for beating a mixed "fleet"
now i know this isnt perfectly balanced yet (lol i did that in less than 5 minutes) but id be willing to create an exact and balanced sheet if there was sufficient encouraging responses

Non combat ships are not allowed? Only non-combat ship in the game that I know of are freighters... and I didn't see a point value for them.
Allowing boosters while not allowing rigs seems quite silly to me. Do boosters not allow for the same level of tanking and thus making 'big expensive things' blow up less?
I urge you to reconsider allowing rigs as they provide an incredible amount of variety to ships and I feel that they would bring so much more to the tourney than they could possibly take away from it with increased tanking abilities. -----

Should deffinatly cost a bit more, given that the golem alone could easily sit and tank 10 ships for 15mins!
If someone fielded 3 Golems, would make for one boring fight!
um... # Battleship, Faction or Tech 2 - 32
# Battleship - 26 ???
Reading stuff at 6am in the morning, and getting no sleep isnt smart lol.
But still, 3 golems, you wouldnt kill them, and im pretty sure they would manage to kill something!
3 spider-tanking golems no less... *shudder*
Edit because I didn't scroll the message field the first time :/

Mining Barges, Exhumers, Industrials and Transports too. There's no point values for the ships that aren't allowed in the tournament.

Quote: Rigs have just as great an effect as Pirate Implants do on the defensive capabilities of a ship, removing them and implants, and the reduction of the warpin distance, encourages more offensive setups. More offensive setups means more fun matches and fewer ****ty turtle tank wars.
The fact that the best thing most ships can do with their rig slots is to improve their tanking capabilities is something that is worth noting for balance issues, but it should not effect their removal from the alliance tournament in my opinion. I feel a more elegant solution to rigging (and to implants for that matter) would be to bring in a points value for these: For the sake of argument, let's say that a filled rig slot costs an extra point, as does a filled implant slot. This would of course be difficult (but not impossible) to enforce, but theoretically it's nice; it would bring the cost value of a rigged T2 battleship flown by a fully implanted pilot up to 44 points and allow for far greater variety.
Note that my comment on implants was on a whim; I am only really interested in rigs.
I also strongly feel that warp outs should be allowed so as to necessitate the fitting of warp disruptors. Warp mechanics are a huge part of real combat, and their exclusion destroys any semblance of tactical combat. Teams should be allowed to use those mechanics to their advantage, such as deployment of interdiction spheres or using a fast ship to get warp-ins for the slower damage dealers.
I'm sorry to say, but the rules here are yet again moving much further away from the combat the game has developed and in my opinion will do nothing to make for better viewing. Personally, I don't watch the alliance tournement to watch ships volley at each other (as per the cookie-cutter-caracal setups that are so common and doubtless will be again) but to enjoy the tactical encounter. The more restrictions placed on the combat, the less tactical and hence less enjoyable each fight will become.

T1 Rigs were allowed in the PVP Tournament at FF'07
Admittedly this was an oversight as when the first teams started playing thy realised the Devs had forgotten to take them off the market. But it did not cause any fights to go on an immeasurable amount of time.
And besides in the Alliance Tournament V they have changed the rules to include a time limit. So wtf is Nova drivelling on about? If the standard rules (no rigs) mean that a fight can last at maximum 15-20 minutes then how is having rigs on each ship going to make that take longer.

Grow some balls Nova and just allow the use of T1 Rigs. To not do so is just being bloody-minded.
as far as i recall rigs were NOT allowed in tournament no. 4
if you end up with 2 passive tank drakes at the end one on each side then the fights just not gonna finish.
nerf the passive drake!! :p
i also dont see why industrials are not allowed in the tournament, look at all those mid slots and you CAN fit a gun, as you can with mining barges exhumers etc. I would like to see a carrier though just for the sheer hell of it say costing 60 points.

Rigs - at least T1 ones should be allowed, more so that your allowing boosters. The pirate implant aspect is done from the point that there xpensive and limiting to alot of corps, boosters as well to some degree. But T1 rigs aint.
That said with changes in game mecanics I see some interesting fights ahead. Wonder if we will see things like turtle tanking drone chains :D, or fights were nearly everybody jammed.
Also any chance of upping the points per team to 109 as I know of at least one alliance out there that would be grateful of that change :).

Same as last time, so my "Medium Nano armour repair" which was a meta T2 module and now a meta T1 which also dosn;t drop anymore and not being of any Faction, from any COSMOS or any dead space or indeed officer is valid still like all previous tournaments :).
I hope so as I have 3 and few billion isk would come in rather handy ;).

seriously, if a team chooses to field some 3x passive tanked drakes with rigs and all its their problem cuz those things will have a mean tank but will have the offense of a wet paper towel...
besides thier tank is far from unbreable... veeeery far from it...
rather than moaning about some imaginary unbreable passive tanks id like the introduction of a points system for EW and Remote Repping...
less EW and less spider tanking will make the tourney much more interesting

This is really, really stupid. All this does is swing the isk advantage back squarely into the hands of those who can afford to buy or train multiple tournament characters. Allow me to present to you how this will work:
Top-Notch Team Five minutes before the fight, each of the six perfect-skills Logistics pilots pops his or her booster. Two gets two penalties, three get one penalty, and one gets none. The pilot with no penalties and the one with the least-important single penalty get placed in the gang for the match, and the other four log off.
Small, Scrappy Team Five minutes before the fight, the two Logistics pilots (one perfect, the other nearly so) pop their boosters. Oh, no! The perfect pilot gets unlucky and gets hit with three side effects, and his buddy gets hit with one.
Now tell me how it's fun to watch a match where the outcome was determined: 1) Months beforehand, when the rich alliance could afford spare characters, and GTC's for them, to train exclusively towards tournament use, and 2) Five minutes before the match, when anybody on the small team could have told you they were doomed the instant they heard that their logistics pilot got his speed, cap amount, and armor amount dropped by 20% or so.
They also pose a logistical nightmare to acquire the boosters and have them available and ready near a place where a wide selection of T1, named, and T2 ships and modules can be acquired (i.e., a high-sec Empire hub).
Please, please reconsider booster legality for the tournament.

In the last tourney you were pulled into the arena 20 mins before the fight and you didnt really know when the fight started. I wouldnt take the chance of popping the booster untill I warped into the fight or something.
I think this can easily be resolved with just pulling teams in 30 mins before the fight minium, therefore you couldnt choose players by the penaltys they get from the boosters.

I completely agree that boosters cause serious issues i agree the point on popping the pills in team and seeing who gets the least side effects prior to the fight is well made. This isnt realistic to PVP either as when you take a gang out you cannot decide to chuck pilots as they have a bad luck with a pill :) it would be better if there was a way to enforce only being able to take the pills DURING the fight as this will allow for mid battle gambles.

I do have to ask why hardwirings and boosters are allowed but pirate implants and rigs arent.
I mean firstly, im very happy pirate implants are now removed, they cost a lot, however a few complex exploiting alliances wouldn't need to worry about that, it only screwed smaller less confident alliances who werent willing to dump 5+bill for a single match.
So yes, Implants gone = good... but seriously why are hardwirings and boosters allowed?
Unless boosters have to be taken AS THE MATCH STARTS, I don't like the idea of including them, even then they and as for hardwirings... we've got the same issue as implants, there are quite a few hardwirings that cost a ton (shaq's for example). Personally I think all implants EXCEPT mindlicks and regular +x's should be removed.
And as for the rigs argument, they're low cost (t1 anyway) and available to pretty much everyone, I don't see why you wouldn't allow them.
Thats just my 2 cents.

Even if they had absolutely no other advantages, they do at least as much damage, if not more, than their T1 (though not necessarily faction, but that's moot) counterparts, and they have additional bonuses versus T1. Agenda-motivated, trollish question answered, let's move on.

You must replace your losses, except for pods and their implants, which are reimbursed should they be accidentally destroyed.

A booster with Biology V (not unreasonable; it a Rank 1 skill and would take me under four days to train to V) lasts 60 minutes. By the time you're putting people in the arena 60 minutes before the fight, you're going to have people lose connection, or not be able to get home from work in time, or whatever. It's just not realistic.
As an additional downside, if these rules persist, the non-NPC-seeded booster skills (nanite control and neutoxin recovery) will bloom from 100m or more to many, many times that. At least 10 pilots per alliance, forty alliances... you're probably talking about doubling of the volume of these skills currently traded, and there's no real way to accelerate the supply to cope, so prices will go up and up....
At the end of the day, I don't like the idea that matches will be decided by a roll of the die. If I use a T1 shield boost amp but luck out with my Blue Pill and get no side effects, that shouldn't offset the skill, training, and preparation advantage of someone with 5% hardwirings and a T2 amp who gets spectacularly unlucky and gets hit with -30% explosion velocity, -30% shield HP, -30% optimal range, and -30% capacitor capacity. At that point, why not just flip a coin before each match?

Originally by: Ishina Fel I don't see the problem with booster drawbacks.

You use Synth Exile and get a 3% armor rep bonus. I'll use Improved Exile on two characters and choose the one who got no side effects, thus receiving a 25% armor rep bonus with no drawbacks.
If you're unsure who will win that fight, you're an idiot.
Each additional participant is, absolute minimum, 750m in hardwirings. More commonly, if you're really speccing them out with the COSMOS ones, you're going to spend at least a billion, and sometimes as much as two, just on hardwirings (a maxed-out Amarr BS pilot with both Pashan's implants, an Ogdin, a Numon, and a 5%). By comparison, a full HG pirate implant set is between one and two billion isk.
Old Way: Buy a HG set and a set of hardwirings for each "slot" == about 3b isk per slot
New Way: Buy a set of hardwirings for each of two pilots so you can choose the one with the fewest side effects to fight for you == about 3b isk per slot
So, remind me how removing pirate implant sets is saving me isk and letting smaller, poorer alliances compete? At least before, I could put the expensive implants in my own head; now I have to give them out to alliance members who may or may not be around for the next tournament. At least before, I could take time off from work, or arrange a babysitter, to fulfill my role in a match; now I have to block off the time, but have no guarantee that I will actually get to fight.
Boosters are bad, bad, bad. Allow synth boosters if you wish, but allowing the real thing is very, very counterproductive.

This is silly...
Tournaments are suppose to be a contest to see which team has the best people/tactics/ships and teamwork to win.
Why would you allow boosters which give boosts but also give huge random drawbacks? Those who use boostes and get no drawbacks will be able to crush another team with equals skills and ships.

i have changed Nova's post to state boosters are not allowed, but were thinking about allowing them once th fight starts then it's allowed to use boosters. this is still not decided, but open for talk.
as regards penalties.
last year there was a few people who had modules that was not allowed. in that case we simply convo'ed the player and gave him 2 choices. have us remove the module and allow him/her to continue or leave the fight. once we remove the module you will not be given it back. the same applies this year, anyone caught with an illegal module will either lose the module or be removed from the fight, the choice is upto the player.
because were not allowing some implants and boosters this year, i will also be scanning for them. anyone with an illegal implant or a booster installed will be removed from the fight, no options given as removing implants or boosters from people can cause delays and work we do not need. if a player is removed, no replacement will be allowed.
now for disqualifications. last time a few alliances was disqualified and we don't really want to do that, so were going be more harsh with the point penalties. but we will disqualify if needed or people continue to break rules. this time there is a group that will handle punishments and make any decisions needed, they are the following people :
- Me
- GM Nova
- GM Xamother
- Mindstar
and as we like to keep local free of chat, unless you are answering a question from a CCP employee you are not allowed to speak in local. you will face a 5 point per line penality. i have a small chat window, so 2 letters is 1 line...
this time there will be no changing times of fights. it was mainly our fault last time, but we have corrected that and we will not need to this time. any player requests to move times will be denied sry.
i will start to follow this tpic, so please ask if there is any questions

I'm happy to see boosters where removed for the time being, and there use shouldn't be allowed, its to much of a risk vs reward for the possible side effects. On one hand if the booster has little or no side effect then that team gets a much better chance of winning, but if the boosters have bad side effects then they have a much better chance of losing.
Allowing the power of the battle to sway with just the use of a booster is crazy. Add to this that boosters are a lot harder to come by then most other things like implants, (no I don't want pirate implants) or rigs of that matter.
Allow the use of only t1 rigs, every alliance that can front 1 bil isk to even be in this should be able to afford to fit there ships with t1 rigs, and rigs are a lot more balanced in terms of being fair towards everyone in the fight. They are also much easier to get, and there bonus while still effecting the battle wont be random.
Saying that, can't wait to see this start up, just my .02 isk.

Originally by: Syberbolt8 I'm happy to see boosters where removed for the time being, and there use shouldn't be allowed, its to much of a risk vs reward for the possible side effects.
Saying that, can't wait to see this start up, just my .02 isk.
i agree on the boosters. i also wanted to see T1 rigs in only, but we had a meeting about this today and they managed to talk me out of them. we don't want to see all tanks and long boring fights, we want to see fight with lots of pew pew, i hate your mother, die ***** etc etc. not anything upto 20 ships sitting tanking for the duration of the fight hoping that the other side will get bored and leave.
i personally liked the tournament last year without rigs and i enjoyed watching the fights. i want to keep it the same this year :)
I understand the reasons, but rigs allow for a lot more flexibility, so disallow the use of Shield defense purger rigs, and polycarbs, those are the only two rigs witch would end up making the fight a stale mate, or stopping normal pew pew.
As far as cap rigs, though they do help logistic cruisers a lot I wouldn't think they would be a major effect on the battle.
Just an Idea but still one I would be very happy to see.

The solution offered by your colleagues is not really a solution at all, so I'll say it again:
Please simply fix rigs!
The fact of the matter is that a trimark pumped 45k armor battleship in a remote rep gang is almost unbeatable when faced with even numbers, and as such even in live combat is a fearsome sight. Likewise, a field purger Drake (and to a lesser extent Rokh) are similarly unimaginative ships that require overwhelming numbers to defeat in live combat. The same can be said for polycarb interceptors, hacs and so on - they outperform any other rig setup in their class and as such are a "no-brainer" choice. So I'll say it again:
Please simply fix rigs!
Removing rigs from the alliance tournament is simply turning a blind eye to a flaw in the entire implementation of rigs: that the tanking rigs are in the vast majority of situations superior to any other in ships that can tank, and that polycarbon rigs are superior to all on ships designed to go zoom. A slight reduction in their abilities (or a stacking penalty on these rigs) would solve the issue entirely, and we could finally see variety in rigged ships, which would render them viable for inclusion in the alliance tournament.
Thank you for your time, and sorry for the rant. Suffice to say, it bugs the hell out of me!

I think the rules considering no rigs are good. If rigs were allowed it would mean heavy financial burden for smaller participants. Since if you can fit them surely you better fit every and each ship with them.

Are you kidding?, Rigs are by far much cheaper then any other forum of boosting ship stats, aside from skilling. You might have to pony up a 100 mil isk or so in some cases, but most of those cases would be removed by disallowing Polycarbs, Shield Purger rigs.
I would think, correct me if I'm wrong that the 1 bil isk entry fee is a huge way to keep out the alliances that are not willing to sink the isk into this, out of it. It doesn't make for a good show to have people showing up in all frigs, and crusiers even if that was the plan last year.
With rigs at least there might be some diversity because of the added flexibility. At this point I'm expecting to see the same setups as last year but a lot more jamming instead of damping since the ECM is the old new you can hit me item of the day.
This of course will mean more missiles, for the FoF, and drone swarms, Where have we seen that before, though allowing rigs wont stop that, it might allow some people to think outside the box from last years setups.
Just my .02 isk

Sharkbait is right. The captain is our contact to the team. If it absolutely essential, a team may announce a new captain and needs to do so 24 hours in advance, at least.

Quote: If it absolutely essential, a team may announce a new captain and needs to do so 24 hours in advance, at least.
I'd like this to be heavily revised, there should be 1 captain, and a vice captain or 2.
Lets say I'm captain, and 12 hours before the match, my computer goes fubar and dies, does my team lose because you didn't receive warning my computer was going to fail and I couldn't make the match? It doesn't seem fair at all. At least with 2 vice captains, 3 computers wont break at the same time (unlikely at least) and it'll allow for acts of god.
=
I'm personally glad to see rigs aren't allowed, it discourages nano setups, super tanked battleships etc.
It'll really make the matches faster paced, and more intense without the extra buffers.

This is a PvP tournie right? So you'd use what seems best to win the situation wouldn't you, if that's 10 caracals spamming missiles/fofs, and that wins, then so be it, you put the thought into what it could/couldn't win against and then fitted them according to covering all bases at once as best they could.
It makes for VERY interesting teams to see how a cruiser swarm fares against rooks, guardians, command ships, spider tanking hac groups and what not. And even more-so the ingenuity of it, if they win. There are small changes on setups that can dictate a win, deciding to go with Sensor boosters or ECCM, or maybe to put a damp on, dropping that stasis webifier there. You never know until you really do test them to death.

Right, but in my opinion its kinda lame to see 10 t1 cruisers swarming around in an alliance tournament final. Seriously, its just not fun to watch 10 caracals vs. 7 bombers, but thats just me.

The signups for the fifth Alliance Tournament will be opened on monday 14. January 2008, at downtime, 1100 hours(Zulu time).
Only the Alliance executor can sign up a team. Once he has done so, he is to donate one billion ISK to GM Nova within 24 hours of signing up. The donation MUST have the name of the Alliance as reason, AND NOTHING ELSE.
Alliances are signed up on a first come first served basis. If you signup a team and do not pay the entry deposit within 24 hours, the signup is removed.
Remember to put the Alliance name as reason for the donation and absolutely nothing else. Failure to do so will invalidate the signup.

As per the rules: "Alliances can field up to ten pilots on the battlefield. The team captain has to be announced beforehand. Any alliance member can fight at any time."
So, in the signups, just the team captain. -- |

The closing date of the signups is not decided at this point, and will most likely be announced when the signup page is up. At this point we just want to give as much warning as possible to those who want to be assured a spot - instead of just saying "Oh hi, by the way, signups are open!".
Regarding the announcement of groups and such - we fully understand that there is scheduling involved on the part of teams who wish to compete (especially those who may be fighting on either of the Fridays), and will make sure that the tournament schedule will be made available as soon as we can feasibly get it ready. -- |

Trying this for the third time now:
Do we have to field a team worth 100 points to be able to get a T+TALHELLDEATH or if we field say 99 points will the one point "lost" mean we wont be able to get it? This is very important when trying to work out a team so I would appriciate a response.

He hasn't answered because it's already answered in the rules, and hasn't changed since last tournament:

Quote: 3. Unused points will be added to the opponents score.
I'm really wondering about this as well. Will the opposition team get this point even if they don't kill a single ship?
An even more interesting situation, you have two teams in the elimination brackets, with team one having brushed through the group stage with 600 points, and team two obviously having less. In this match team one fields a single point less than team two, and when time is up both teams have killed an equal amount of shippoints. Like a battleship on each side or something.
Now, what will be the tiemaker? Team ones higher pointscore from the group stages, or Team twos single free point from having fielded for instance 100pts vs 99pts.
To circumvent the entire problem however, free points should not be triggered before all of the oppositions ships are killed. Either way, the rules need to be clear on this.
Also, when either team one or team two advance from this match to the next, will their new tiebreaker score be from this match only, or will it get tacked onto the score they already have from the groupstages? "If you were experiencing a lag, it was not server related." |

Pilk is correct. If (for example) you field 99 points worth of ships, you can still get the 150 points by killing the entire enemy team for no ship loss.

It doesn't apply to me, but it might apply to one of my teammates--what if someone doesn't have a clone without a pirate set in it, (and, optionally, already has the JC skill at V)? Can we get a generalized ruling for those situations, please; i.e., the person can pod themselves, after securing explicit GM approval, and you'll reimburse the implants and clone cost?
There's two levels to this, and only the first one definitely needs solving, but it'd be nice to solve both:
- In the first level, I have a teammate who will very likely otherwise have to destroy a HG pirate set in order to participate in the tournament.
- At the second level, I have two sets of hardwirings from two tournaments on my tournament character, both of which are coupled with HG sets. It would suck to have to buy a fresh set of hardwirings when I've got a perfectly good set right there!
Thanks!, --P

We will have to pick a ship for what it is and not what it can be : - you want speed : use a bonused ship or a ship meant to be fast (no Nanos ...) - you want tank : use a bonused ship (no passive shield tank Myrm ) - you want gank : you know the drill
More "We play EvE the way it was designed", less "I win button"/"I have a big wallet" = win.
See you all in the tourney.

Now, what will be the tiebreaker? Team ones higher pointscore from the group stages, or Team twos single free point from having fielded for instance 100pts vs 99pts.
I take it this wasn't read, as it was certainly not answerred. "If you were experiencing a lag, it was not server related." |

I'm sorry if someone else has asked already. Pirate implant sets are not allowed.
What of the other "named" implants, like Zor's, akemon's etc? Please resize image to a maximum of 400 x 120, not exceeding 24000 bytes, ty. ... - Cortes honestly now... the sig is 25k :S |

I imagine they're either 6 points or not allowed. (probly the latter)
That said, I dunno why you'd want one at that price, can get two merlins or griffins instead with a combined 8 med slots instead of a buzzard's 5, and more HP

Covert Ops Frigates are allowed, and cost the same as Interceptors & Assault frigates - 6 points.
The covert ops cloak module (or any cloak for that matter) is not allowed. -- |

"The arena will measure a 125 km radius." means the distence between 2 farest ponts will be 250? or 125?

diameter = 2xradius. The diameter will be the distance between the 2 farthest points, which is 250.

Why are covert ops listed as green, do you get bonus points if winning a fight with one of them fielded?

What is the procedure for staging in readiness for a fight? Do we need to be ganged or in a particular system?

last year you just had to have everybody in gang. Preferably in the same system, but I seem to recall the gm moving a couple of our pilots from other systems as well. I'm guessing the same procedure will be followed this year.
A gm will convo you, or just pop into your gang.

I trust it that fielding a team with less than 100 points still mean you can achieve totalhelldeath.

BTW.. If you don't field the full 100pts and then go out and get a THD on the opposite team, do you still get 150p or just 125p? Don't think this has been fully clarified yet.

You do, the other team just get awarded the missing points as well.
Still I'm not seeing the prizes here.

gday all, great tourney so far will be looking forward to the rest of it.
just wondering about one thing tho, i read the rules as this THD (Total Hell Death) = 150 points for the winning team. A win without a THD = total points killed * 1.25 for the winning team.
Now since only 4 days have been hosted on the replay thingy, i can only look at them for now, but here's my question.
Tri so far have gotten 3 x THD (450 points) and a win with 73 points in ships destroyed, yet they only have 498 total points, shouldn't they have 541.25 points, or did something happen that gave them a 43 point deduction on day 5?

I think one TRI-ship moved before the start of a match or something and got point reduction and was denied a THD. ------------------------------ Yaarrr? |
