Keep in mind that WoW was intentionally made from simple graphics to keep it available to every-Joe with his Rent-a-Center Packard Bell. I got a solid 50 FPS in the busiest areas with a six-year old P4.
WoW is accessible to just about everyone with a keyboard. If it doesn't run on your machine, it's because you haven't gotten the latest firmware for your TI-83. ----- TANSTAAFL

WoW has so many flaws in its PvP system I don't even know where to begin. EVE has the best PvP system of any MMOG on the market. And by PvP system I'm talking the macro PvP system not the micro.

It must be the most elaborate macro PvP system, but also the most frustrating when the biggest battles are decided by lag / everyone crashes etc. ... That being the norm, not the exception. :-(

Wow GFX appeal to the 13yr old who wants to strip his night elf and have her dance
I played it briefly and wanted to gouge my eye's out with a rusty spoon... where as my kids liked the cartoonish nature of it I left the acct active for about 3mths, and added the expansion so they could play Blood Elves... but after that I got tired of sharing my pc with a crappy game and they were starting to slip in grades/chores so cancel acct

WoW is a game for people who want to use as much of their brain as they do when they watch television, which if I recall, is less than you use when you're taking a crap.
It has a safety net the size of russia and mitigates player skill by catering to the weakest link (dumb people).
EVE does none of these things, which leads me to the conclusion that the only people who would prefer WoW over EVE are people who are below average in intelligence.
Given the average statistics for people who are average or below average intelligence i would say that the percentage of online gamers who play WoW compared with EVE fit nearly perfectly. _______________________________________________ Minmatar will always go faster than you, get over it. |

Actually youre wrong, play a rogue in high end raids for instance. Alot more brain usage and concentration then pushing F1-F8 and looking at my screen and listening to primaries in TS.
Youre dead wrong, end game wow is alot more skill then end game eve or eve in general.
This is not the reason though that I quit wow and that Im still playing eve. ---------------------------------------------

Endgame WoW was exactly what I had in mind when I wrote that. I played 6 months with 5 of those months at max level doing endgame content. Maybe rogues have to do tricky pulling techniques like oldschool EQ or whatnot, but overall there isn't a lot of tactics that go into it other than making sure you've got the right resists before you walk in the door.
I like how you compared what you probably consider the best of WoW with what everyone considers the most dull part of EVE, though :P _______________________________________________ Minmatar will always go faster than you, get over it. |

oh right yes like eve's pve is SOOOO much better than WOW....
And the pvp of eve is SOOO much better than wow too... just sit at a gate for hours on end and wait for targets to come though. Sit in one spot and shoot at a tower/station for hours. MMM yes, SOOO much fun...
Ok, sarcasm aside, if you ask me why I am still here, it's cause I have fun doing things in this game with other ppl cause so many wacky things happen. Otherwise, I would rather play single player console games cause they are best for "pve". I am going to try a few multiplayer games soon with xlink kai but I imagine they will be fun for 1-2 hours of instant gratification.
The reason to play mmorpgs is to play with ppl, right? Not solo play mindless grind crap.

PvP in WoW sucks for 1 simple reason it doesn't mean anything, the old days of TM/HB zergs were kinda amusing though. But that died with the introduction of BG's.
The other part of WoW that was enjoyable was 40 man raids, expansion killed that both by reducing the number players needed, not having introduction raids like MC at release as well as introducing wellfare epics which are comparable or better then mid end raid items. --- -The only real drug problem is scoring real good drugs |

It's all individual preference. Eve is not better than wow and wow is not better than eve depending on who you ask. If wow was better then eve to me, I'd be playing wow and not eve but I'm not so clearly I think eve is better than wow.
I also think SCI-FI is better then fantasy so again this puts eve ahead of wow in my book.
So you are ok to say you think wow is better than eve, just dont expect people to agree with you.

The comparison between PvP in WoW and EvE is like comparing quake to eve.
WoW PvP is fast paced with no consequence, exactly the right target to get all those 1st person players involved, battlegrounds/arenas are an expansion upon that which force fair numbers, leaving the victor down to the most organized/skilled/gearred people.
EvE is obviously not fair pvp, it has consequences and that is what i love about EvE PvP - the fact that when you blow up someones CNR or capital ship, you know you've dealt him at the very least a bloody nose.
On the other side, WoW is an attractive game as it is something you can just pick up, do a few quests and put back down. There is no wait for pvp (ala gate camps). You can just jump straight into it - its an excellent business model, even though i'd expect most eve players dislike it because most eve pvp players want consequence, want 'real' - wow pvp is certainly not that.
I guess i'm a little disillusioned with eve pvp, in that any 'large' engagment always ends in a lag fest, so while i prefer the eve ethos when it comes to pvp, i can't help but feel i've not been sold what was advertised on the box, and been short changed...
when it comes to pve, wow is just simply a better game, EvE npc's are terribly basic in their AI and 'ez mode' doesn't begin to describe how easy it is to overcome missions...
And then of course there is the economy, and that is an area Eve shines in - its complexity, its diversity and the fact you don't have 'no drop/soul bound' items make everything available to all (isk permitting). From mining & industry to research the scope is huge and imo at least is where eve is light years ahead of competition.

I have played both and enjoy both for entirely different reasons. Both Eve and WoW have their strengths and weakness.
For me WoW was it's simplicity and accessibility. It was easy to pick up an and put down in an evenings session. Eve is somewhat more demanding and less tolerant for the player that likes to dip in and out. Eve however has the best PvP aspect IMO.
Either way the numpty who said that people who played WoW were of below average intelligence really doesn't understand the mechanics of either game. I spent 20 years of my life in the armed forces and enjoyed WoW. Does that make me below average intelligence?
To me both games are great in a different way. Like someone said earlier it's apple and oranges.

You can log off for 2 days and still advance your char. If you want, you can switch from ganking to ratting to transporting just by switching your ship. In WoW if you want to switch your role, you will most likely need to make an alt and grind to higher levels, get gear which is mostly bind on pickup so you need instances to get it, or if you are hybrid char you need to pay to reset talents to be able to actually do something else (do it well at least) which will result in being crap at doing what you did before.

I played rogue, hunter, druid (feral and resto), warrior and mage in raids, and none of them really need a lot of skill. Go to any strategy site, read up, test a little and when fight comes all you need to do is DPS and move when your addons tell you. Of course, those that can't read inch high red flashing warning in the middle of the screen that says 'Whirlwind incoming in 3...2...1' are a different story.

in WoW you need to lvl to lvl 60 (70 now ???) to be able to GRIND your self the best equipment... after that.... nothing.. just grind.. grind.. grind... more grind.
battleground pvp sucks and if a lvl 60 player comes and kills your lvl 20.. you cant do **** all about it.. even whit 10 lvl 20 friends.
where as in eve... you are smart.. you canme huge ammount of isk in few months of play... get a gang of 10 friends whit 2m sp and go kill players whit 50mil sp.
you dont have to grind your ass of to get isk even if ur smart.... like trade. if u know what ur doing.. you can make lots of isk by doing something for a hour a day or so.
pvp is non consensual what is great.. the day we get battlegrounds in eve is probably the day i leave :P ---------------------------------- Seems that there's a new game that seems to be very popular whit whiners these days. Its called EFT Online.

I used to play WoW everyday of the week in a hardcore raiding guild, and I noticed 3 things:
1) Although the end content is well written and the game lore has a good background to it, doing instances is an epic bore, since it involves the same strategies all the time and the same skills, i.e. as a tank, Heroic Strike, Sunder Armour etc etc.
Also, after doing an instance about 2000 times more than you should for an ultra rare drop for crafting gets very, very old very fast.
2) Hardcore raiding destroys your social life, and not just yours like 40/50 other peoples.
3) The items are much and much the same, different graphics with some different writing. Everything in WoW is rock, paper, scissors. No class excells above the others, hell they even gave alliance Shamans and horde Paladins, I mean they were hanging by a thread on the differences between the Alliance & Horde but they just destroyed any form of difference (apart from physical appearence) right there.
WoW is one of those games where you can mull along quietly doing quests and never run the risk of getting killed (unless you're on a PvP server), its a game for carebears, by carebears.
Sure EVE has its problems, but honestly I like the casual play of EVE, I can logon when I want and go PvP/rat/whatever and not have to abide by strict deadlines everyday of the week. I do agree though that I think the empire guys could use some more interesting missions, not that I run missions myself but when I did for a short time I found them very linear and just crammed full of bad guys, instead of having some real purpose or goal.
