The entrance fee is ok. It's 20 million per team ... so 10 million per pilot.
Big thumbs up for this event. Good luck and I hope to see videos of at least the 3 top matches.

Good questions:
Warping within the arena is prohibited.
Warping out or disconnecting is an immediate disqualification of that player, but not the team.
All warp disruption modules are banned from the tournament, but any EW/logistics modules are allowed.
The tournament is eight days long, as the logistics of bringing everyone together on one or two days is nearly impossible since this is not CCP associated (hint, hint). We also have numerous referees in order to accommodate players from across the world. Essentially, we'll try to get the first round in the first two days, the second round the following days, etc.
There is no maximum limit for registered teams ... yet.

This sounds amazing! I would love to enter, but I do have one minor query. The rules state that there cannot be more than a 12-month age gap between players. Is there anyway to overcome this? I was interested in entering with one of my students (likely between 2 and 4 months old), yet I will be...46 months old. I will gladly take the higher seeding as a form of punishment. If not, Midgard will still be entering a team - but I'll just be the most annoying backseat driver ever. One last question: the rules do not state whether or not a single corporation can enter multiple teams. Presuming that the entry fees are paid, can one corporation enter two teams with four different pilots?
Feel free to respond here or via eve-mail, whichever you prefer. Definitely a great event!

Yeah, the earlier frig tournie (details here) was great (despite me going out in the first round ) but I think that the 2 vs 2 cruiser tournie promises to be not only great fun, but will also to be a much more tactical teamwork experiment for most.
Also the bracket split between younger players and veterans makes it very appealing to the newer players who might otherwise not participate. Looking forward to it massively!

kada, that gap is simply too large, sorry. However, there are currently no restrictions on the number of teams eligible for the tournament. A corp or alliance can enter however many they wish, but I do request that each player limit his or herself to one character entered in the event (no alts).

You've a slight problem using character age; I'm a year and a bit old, but I only have 3.4 millions skill points. This is because I only play once in a while during any given year.
Character age is not a reliable indicator of character skill levels.

If your team loses a ship but wins the match and progresses to the next round, the lost ship would need to be replaced. I wasn't explicit on that point. It somewhat falls under the 'you can change your ships and fittings between matches' rule.

I'll try to be there, need to find a mate who likes cruisers...
I just have a question about jetcan flagging and +10 standings, some friends tried to use this method and it seems to fail on +10 standings, concord came and... Anyone knows if it was effectively the +10 standings between them or if it was something else that went wrong? As for +10 standings, this is indeed an issue. If you have an opponent you hold in +10, you will need to adjust it to something lesser before your match.

I'd tend to agree, but wouldn't drone aggression be able to handle a blackbird? My first instinct was the tourney will be dominated by Vexors and Arby's.
Then I remembered ECM. It's just too bad this ends on Superbowl Sunday. It pretty well eliminates me from running, what with parties and such. Scrapheap fun on Bombs: Takahashi: Atm you're essentially "firing the equivalent of a Ferox"

Let me get this straight...no faction ammo, but you can use high grade ______ implants? How is that compatible at all with the goal of "an attempt to ensure the value of a team's skills and strategy moreso than their wallets." Or are you just banking on the fact that the tournament payout is less than the cost of a set of pirate implants to keep people from using them, ignoring that there will be some who have them fitted already.
If the problem is enforcability, pick a system with a medical station, have the participants go to the system in an empty jump clone, and pod all the participants before they are allowed to begin fighting.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Due to public outcry, the twelve month rule has been revised. I will accept a team with two players who are separated by more than a year. As a penalty against this, the team's age will be determined only by the oldest player's age. Therefore, if a 3 month old and a 2 year old enter as a team, their first match will be against a team with an average age of 2 years.
If anyone who has already registered wishes to change their team because of this, EVEmail me.

A few questions
1. Smartbombs are not allowed in empire at all i beleive and will result in being concorded even if you hit nothing. And if it isnt the case, it will still hit that can.
2. are fleets allowed? for example my CEO has a ton in leadership, could he sit as a spectator and set boosters for the guys actually in the fight?
3. FOF missles + spectators + specially if were at war with em = hehe

Smartbombs are allowed in Empire, just don't hit the can (hint hint get to the can if they have smartbombs).
My questions:
How is damage inflicted "equally" on everyone? What if they have a Stabber going 6km/s because of his snakes? And also, will we know what ships the opponent has before we start (any coverage on fights, etc.)? Finally, how do you schedule these? What if we are both asleep at the time you set, and we can't attend?

The referees are not looking forward to having to call or 'settle' a draw ... so if you come to the arena with two buffer-tank Vexors fit solely to rep each other, we will not be amused. Simply outlasting your opponents in hopes to out-tank the referee is not a winning strategy. You've been warned.
And again, you will be ganged with the referee after aggression is acquired.
You will not know your opponents' ships beforehand ... unless they are nice enough to tell you. :)
The referees will be on around-the-clock, to the best of our abilities. Scheduling will be very flexible, and all competitors will be contacted about availability prior to the start of the tournament.

Hi Delelia,
1. Smartbombs are fine, albeit risky to use in the Arena. If you concordokken yourself by hitting the can or a spectator, we'll be very sorry but also very amused
2. El Caido's already answered this, but no. You'll be ganged with the ref and he will distribute the participants so that fleet bonuses will not be applied

Hi Mme Kaliear,
No, sadly not. But the T1 + rigless limitation on fitting out your cruiser means that the amount of money you can spend on it is relatively limited, and so I hope you'll be able to put enough together to make it worthwhile participating! Insurance is also worthwhile if you're concerned about your PvP skills.

On a case-by-case basis of course, but intention to participate in an active fight is the key. Similarly, any team that insta-cloaks and doesn't de-cloak for 10 mins will be very unlikely to have a sympathetic referee.

Originally by: Thormbus question on match start.
so 4 pilots and 1 ref gang up,warp to the arena, steal each others cans. then warp out, warp back in, start shooting? need a little clairification on the rules there.
Taking from a gang members' can doesn't transfer aggression.
So the order will be: 1. Everyone warps to the can in the center of the arena. 2. Everyone swaps cans and gets aggro 3. Ref then gangs everyone and distributes them so fleet bonuses aren't applied 4. Ref then asks each team their starting distance 5. Ref then tells team 1 to go to their distance in one direction, team 2 to go to their distance in the other direction 6. When everyone is at distance, the spectators are clear of the arena, everyone has unlocked targets on each other and everyone is flagged and ready, the tournament starts
For the absolute avoidance of doubt, there's no warping once you're in the arena pre-match.
Originally by: Eleana Tomelac I read the rules and I am a bit annoyed by the restriction of finding a partner who is less than one year difference with me...
This rule has been altered, as per:
Originally by: el caido IMPORTANT UPDATE: Due to public outcry, the twelve month rule has been revised.
Hope that clears everything up.
Best wishes,

Fully aware of that. I'm not talking about the weekly show
Despite the fact that the show got axed, I'd wager that the guys who were EVE players before are still EVE players. They don't stop existing just like that, and they might be interested in the event.
Also, there are always breaks during the tournament broadcasts, usually halfway through the day, where spiral stuffs his face with pizza and we usually get to see pre-recorded footage or fanfest recaps. Maybe they would be inclined to put the video material you guys record of your Cruiser tourney in there somewhere? Maybe they could pick up the topic on air while waiting for a match to start, or maybe even devote a few minutes to a concise summary/feature report? I don't know, but they might know! That's what I was suggesting to ask.

I see why the ref has to gang with the participants, to avoid people making a gang of 3 and having someone external to the match toss gang bonii, but I think it disadvantages characters (like myself) who have invested in the leadership tree. We're in cruisers so no gang links but I still think if someone's burned the SP for 10% armor or shield or speed or whatever bonus, they should be allowed to utilize it.
For enforcement purposes, you would need two refs per match, one to form a gang with each team. Each team could specify the gang booster for the match before the match begins and the ref can retain fleet leadership in order to ensure nothing fishy goes on. If a player leaves the gang, they're disqualified.
I think that system is eminently fair to all players involved, the only issue being one of people - could you get two Refs for every match? - and if this isn't possible for the initial round(s), could it be implemented in the later rounds, where there are fewer competitors?

RK, great suggestion! If we can gather enough referee overlap, I would love to put it in action.
And Del, each player elects his/her starting distance. Both ships on a team do not need to start from the same spot.

Also, is nanite repair paste allowed? This thing could make some difference in a fight I guess... Overloading can be powerful. (I don't have the skills, but by wingmate may have it)

Would you even need the two refs? Just split each team into a separate squad, set squad boosters, head to starting distance and let 'em rip. makes perfect sense to me. satisfies all three major considerations - team's leadership bonii are applied internally, team does not get the benefit of opponent's bonii, and ref's bonii are applied to no one. any reason this wouldn't work?

*Smacks Head*
That makes a lot more sense then having two gangs. There's a lot less overhead involved and the one ref can keep track of all participants directly. As long as the ref is in a third squad, as you noted, there's no danger of the ref tossing bonii to the participants. This way we don't have to worry about overlapping refs, and folks who have worked for leadership skills can take advantage of those abilities. ------------------------------------------

As the SAK EVEnt crew is not CCP affiliated, we cannot guarantee - though we shall do everything to protect - your safety. Competitors who belong to a warring corp/alliance should be especially wary.
I sincerely hope that no one would take advantage of this tournament in such a way, but not everyone is an honorable as I'd like.

just a side note, plz plz everyone fit a cloak...
would really make my day, because: 1. Cuts down your scan resolution by what... 25%? 2. Cuts down your dps, by quite a lot on some ships. 2. if you cloak, your in a gang with me and All i have to do is spam the warp to member and by merit of me not being cloaked and being faster than you I'll approach you and eventually decloak you in which time I'll probably end up killing you before the 30 seconds of recalibration time is up. and even if you do manage to get a lock on me, did i mention your dps is going to suck?
So please everyone... fit a cloak.

If I can agree with my corpmates on what fits we should use, I will be part of this!
What people would do with a cloak? I am wondering... Anyway, it sounds more like a penalty to have a cloak than a bonus. And as warping is not allowed within the arena (I thought I read this) eveyone being in the same gang just allows everyone to see the other people's HP, and such thing is only useful after lost locks because of ECM or dampeners or getting out of range... Which makes it a quite useless feature for most people, so it would be fine everyone being in a gang with the judge.
Now, good luck to everyone, and I hope to see you in the arena! -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !

what is going on with sec hits is ccp disableing sec hits within the area or not, because last time i looked can aggro gives you a sec hit of like .1% and my partner has like a -1.8 sec standing so he will out of sec really quickly.

and btw one quest: so for example if during the battle lost my ship but my teammate killed both of the opponents, i need to go Jita and buy myself new ship and prepare for the next fight?
and one more: dont u think that 75km max warp in is too big distance? :D even on Ally event max warp in is 50km... such a big distance make advantage for pair of caracals and make it very difficult for closecombat cruisers to compete with them %)) so maybe decrease warpin distance to 30-40km?? Yes, if you lose your ship in a match, but your team is victorious, you will probably want to find a replacement before your next match. XD

Impressively large bracket!
Looking forward to some fun matches.
In response to some of the comments earlier about cloaking, they might offer some tactical possibilities.
-Having one team member cloaked would force the opposing team to primary the team member you'd like to be doing the tanking...
-Would allow cloaked pilot to get into range if dealing with snipers and not fitted to survive a MWD trip to range while being nailed by snipers
-combined with jamming might allow time to cloak, rep back to full health, continue the fight...
The hits to damage output and fittings might not counter-balance these issues, but it will be fun to see how this works if anyone goes with a cloak fit.
See you all for the fighting :)

Correct, Diablo. Because the number of entrants is not a nice round number (like 8, 16, 32, etc), the youngest teams in each bracket - with the exception of the corrections I had to make - have a 'bye' the first round, as explained on the SAK EVEnts website. Keep in mind that they will have to face older teams if they are to progress to the semi-finals, so it is somewhat of a balance.

In order for the leadership tree to be of use, what you really need to do is make the referee the Fleet Commander, and create two wings. Then assign their wing commander of choice so that each team can receive the full benefit of their leadership abilities. Otherwise, you might as well go back to the earlier model of everyone in the same squad.
