I have been doing some very secret calculations today.
First, look at the setups below: Moros & Thanatos
The aim of those setups were to create ship that does dps and has two capital remote reppers while being fairly cap stable. Aka the role of a carrier.
To my surprise, Thanatos was completely outclassed in nearly every field by its counterpart dread, Moros.
What is the point of getting Thanatos when you can get ship that has nearly double its dps, tank and cap recharge while still running two capital remotes? You can make moros completely immune to e-war also! Moros can be run in non-sieged mode when there is no incoming dps or ewar, but when the worst happens, it can be made an super tank!
As conclusion, we can clearly see why Thanatos is really obsolate. Moros can do its role better with carrier setup while still being able to transform to pos/capital -killer with another fit!
Discuss.

And now check the range on the moros remote reps...How far do you think ships sit away from each other in fights where you would field capitals? _________________________________________________ Breetime

Maybe also the fact that the Thanatos can delegate out fighters, as well as having multiple waves of pretty much every drone?

Dont you need 4 DCUs(5 with skill at lvl5) to maximise damage? But I agree Moros does seem a bit overpowered..

Um... ok. At the risk of hitting myself in the face repeatedly, I'll attempt to explain. The Moros is a dread, and has nowhere near the drone space of a Carrier. It cannot use fighters. It gets no range bonus to logistics mods. In siege mode it cannot recieve friendly remote effects. A dreads purpose is to attack installations and other cap ships with its capital guns. The Thanatos is a carrier, it is designed to deploy fighters and delegate them, and provide support to a fleet through the use of logistics mods which it gets a bonus to, and through the use of the triage module, which is lik seige mode, but for carriers and does not boost offnsiv capabilities, only support capabilities. In short they are two totally different ships and one cannot substitute the other.

I was going to type a long and coherent post, but that would be pretty much feeding a troll.
bottom line is, you don't use "all skills at 5" to argue with ship balance.
also why are you comparing a CARRIER, wich is first and foremost a fire support/logistic platform, to a DREADNAUGHT, wich is a siege platform? a VERY bad setup siege platform btw.
nevermind oranges here, you're comparing eggs with apples?
oh and deactivate the siege module if you really want to compare both. ---

QFT, disable the seige module. You are comparing a stationary stuck ship to a mobile one. Should we start comparing the tanks of POS against dreadnoughts?
Honestly both those capital ship setups are really bad anyway.

So many morons in this thread, they have completely missed OP's point.
Both the Moros and Thantos are able to provide excellent support. Moros can engage support ships with about 1200dps coming from its drones, and can output even more dps via capital weapons onto other capitals or installations. Whereas Thantos is stuck with drones alone, but does have much better range on its RRs. I personally would go with the Moros, just make sure you don't stray too far from each other.
Level 5 in EFT will show you what the ship is capable off, use it.
And no, i'm not OP's alt, I'm just lazy to log in to my other account.

Ok, looks like too many people is missing the point of this thread.
So I need to represent a new challenge: Moros setup part 2
Make me a carrier (preferably thanatos) setup that is able to perma-run 3*capital remote reps while having a 2800dps+ tank and 1200dps. (2 million effective hp with lg slaves on top of that). Smartbomb is required for drone countering.
(No avatars in gang or gang bonuses, this is calculated without.)
And that is with t2/faction only.

Who cares, you'll never fly either. Hint:- there are other ship stats than dps and tank and dps is generally subject to tracking, sig radius and other things. If you think a carriers only purpose is to tank and dps you have serious problems before you've even started...

There is no point using ogre's. They are way too slow and get smartbombed by every single MS/carrier outthere. Do you really want to sit in space for 10 minutes with a SHOOT ME, SHOOT ME sign while the entire fight is allready over. Triage has the same problem btw.
I do understand youre point. Your point is that the dreadnaught has the same capability as the carrier. Or is even better. I cannot stress this enough: 15 km range is not enough on remote repairs. Im sorry, but its not. _________________________________________________ Breetime

Simply for conviniences sake its assumed that all skills at level 5 will benefit one ship as much as it benefits another so the result can be scaled down to any skill level.
Of course there are individual examples where certain ships require more training to use effectively than others but generally talking about exactly how many skills and at what level a pilot is likely to have just leads to pedantic quibbling much like that in this post and doesnt get much done in the long term (if anything can be said to in a public forum).

Is it just me or is everyone in this thread missing one small but significant point? That being the dread costing like twice what the carrier costs? So even if the Moros is a better support ship than the Thanatos (which without looking at numbers at least at short ranges is fairly likely imho), this probably is not nearly worth the additional cost.
There is no 'n' in turret There is no 'r' in faction There is no 'a' in Scorpion There is no 'e' in Caldari There is no makeup in rogue drones |

Remove this 50% per LEVEL drone bonus to stop 1200dps drones and replace it with a bonus that helps moros turrets. I hear 10% cap use per level is a favorate one. Just saying, thats all...
This was abroken legacy of eve of 2005 and should be fixed now. Be honest - Moros is OVERPOWERED as it can take on any shiptype that light drones can hit, due to its MASSIVE 50% per level drone bonus. This is wrong and there is NO real reason why the Moros should not have its bonus changed to a pos/capital shooting bonus.

And that is with t2/faction only.
thanatos,i cannot get it up to that dps, however i swapped how much it tanks with dps...
highs:3x capital remote reps,2x true sansha energy vamps. mids:1x capital shield booster,1xDG shield boost amp 2x DG invuls 1x DG photon scattering. lows:6x true sansha power relays. rigs:2x CCCII 1x CCCI(you said tech 2 ). tanks 2723,produces 1250 and runs perma.
Now heres the deal, carriers are much different then dreads, sure you can get a dread more cap stable...But you cannot rep the from the same range, assign your drones, actually hit with max dps, etc.
dude you just fit an amplifier with 6 power relays, thats a waste. Anyway why are you trying to shield tank it? Thanatos slot allotment is ment for armour tanking.
I don't fly capitals yet, so I will not pretend no know how to fit them, but I can say all of the ones I've seen here have been horribly wrong. If we are going to go on about ******** setups, then how about this?
Edit: wow I cannot believe that they star out that word.
This guy asked for that type of setup and i gave him what EFT said as he's obviously playing EFT rather then eve,i would never setup a thanatos like that but in order to follow those before said specifications it called for shield tanking. Hello, I just did a new setup for moros. Moros, 4 remotes
How about perma running FOUR capital remotes while dealing 1100dps+ and tanking 3000?
I think moros is still the winner.

Can't you people see the point in this thread? After I started browsing through this thread in a ferrocolossal boredom, ready to faintly turn into gorridiumcolossal boredom, I realised you people are insufficient to find the point in this thread.
You should spend some time, thinking about the point in here. I personally realised the point, it was crystal clear like a pond in midst of a thick forest, frozen up like the brains of yours.
In the end if you can't understand why this thread is here, you should all go and post something even faintly smart. I should now say something about your mothers, that would be horrible and totally inhuman, but I won't.

If nobody ever realises and points it out in an obvious fashion itll be incredibly traumatic to the OP hence we're all going along with it in a variety of cruel mass conspiracy in the hope that this will incur an epiphany and possibly encourage him to join a nunnery. That you didnt realise this fact shows your personal ineptness and i have to say on cold winter nights there will be a warm place in my heart just for you.

Please explain how thanatos setup is more effective than moros when the fight is happening under 15km range. I see moros beating it in nearly every possible way.

Good luck that you arent my fc, since it looks like you cant use any sensible arguments to back up your opinion. Aggressive beahivour makes me unable to see your point btw.
The thread's point is to compare Moros and Thanatos as a support ship. It also has a great value of surprise to have a moros as support, since none will expect it. Not that it performs bad at all, it actually outperforms thanatos under 15km.

As you know, many remote rep gangs work under this range anyways, so the moros could provide them with excellent support. Under close ranges the Ogre II:s dont have to travel far, so their slower speed isn't a problem.

Thana can be able to run 2*rr with sensible setups, while moros can run 3-4.

My experience shows that in capital gangs, let alone fastmoving support, even the 52km of a carrier is *not* enough oftentimes.

why do u even thing about damage of support ships ? support is not about damage and still carier can repair way more cos they got more hight slots then dreads and special module to boost there logistic abilitys

If the fleet is doing what it should be, no one should be warping out anyways. If you drift because of lag, thats your own fault for not stopping the ship.
And tbh, this setup is more aimed at smaller skirmishes with capital support than a 0.0 lagfestblob-borefights.

The damage is just added bonus of course. Triage module holds you up for 10 minutes. In untriaged/sieged mode, moros repairs 2*more than the thana does. If you want to rep more in carrier, please show me a sensible setup that runs 5* capital remote.

How about a situation when everything is prepared and you sit under 1000m from each other? Plan more and use tactics so you dont have to fail with range.

Lol, guys, are you real? Thanatos in triage has 100% bonust to remote rep amount and -50% to remote rep duration, so it rapairs 4 times more than a moros with the same number of Capital remote rapairs. And haas more DPS, due to the fact that his fighters has more DPS than the bonused ogre IIs and are 3 times faster. And a dread cannot hit anything other than standing still BS. So, is this thread real?

Thantos Fighters do less DPS to enemy fleet than Moros Ogre II's due to something called sig radius and tracking.
Moros can remote rep. Moros can solowtfpwm enemy fleet with drones.
A gang of carriers are spider tanking, and a gang of moros are spider tanking.
Carrier sends fighters, Moros Ogers II massacre fighters, as fighters miss most of their shots on oger II due tracking/sig. Now moros can snipe carriers if they have any turrets fitted. Mor just send orger II to mass assault.
Moros can kill any carrier that uses Triage easaly as Carrer will run out of cap, while moros 1200 dps hits wrecking shots with drones alone on such a big target, so DPS is actually much higher.

This setup can either tank or rep,it has nearly the same cap a second as your own and can tank 3300 dps whilst producing 1250...You should be ashamed, you made me release this basterd child upon the world

Theoretical Bullcrap aside Dreads have 1 weakness - any non-capital ship can tackle them.
With exception of Moros
This weakness that other dreads have is not present in moros. This is unbalanced. Change Moros 50% /level bonus to a turret related one

It should be 10% per level, or turret damage/cap use bonus.
Sure, but only if the moros has some extra flavour. So a +37.5% rep bonus and no ammo usage. Also we we need much, muuuuch more range on the blasters so they can be used till 40-50 km out.
Omg!!11!11 just like amarr. Better tank, better damage (lol you wanna use blasters??) and no logistical nightmare. Woot!

Woot!
You know what! Lets make every THING in the game the SAME and hold hands and have loads of FUN!
Wow, so cool i have a capslock button too. Just like you!
Lol u think he is bad in this thread. Read this Rant This guy is completely stupid and will never allow himself to be wrong.
In reply to the OP, what are u thinking? I fly both a Carrier and a dread on 2 different accounts. They are both good at their niche jobs but why in the name of god would you use a Dread for logistics? The Carrier is far superior to it in this role, even with out using the triage mod.(which most carrier pilots don't, use speaking from experience)
And just one more question, have u ever flown either of these 2 ships?

Edited by: Paulo Damarr on 10/01/2008 05:04:44 50% per level Drone damage? wtf that's a little excessive considering the other dreads all have bonuses related to their capitol weapons, so the Moros can spew uber damaging drones out that can wtfbbqpwn much smaller ships? The Moros looks like some kind of super Dominix or something. ----------------------------------------------- My new years resolution is to give up nonconstructive posting |

Im not saying it should be nerfed I know squat about Dreads, all I was saying is that if you look at all the other dread bonuses the Moros 50% per level seems excessive.
50% per level with 500m3 Drone bay makes it look like some kind of super mutated Dominix with a uber tank. But like I said I know nothing so it could very well be crap in the field. ----------------------------------------------- My new years resolution is to give up nonconstructive posting |

This weakness that other dreads have is not present in moros. This is unbalanced.
You know, when you're in a situation like that where you have to bail out your Dread on your own you're dead. You shouldn't be in such a situation at all. If you still manage to get there something went horribly wrong. No drone bonus is going to help you there. ---- Sarmaul's crosstrainorgtfo |

Now that they got their colors changed and the Gallente whines have quieted down for a bit, it's a good time to nerf the Moros Drone bonus and bring it in line with the other Dreads...

I hope you are joking.
If not, hint: it's called racial diversity. If you "bring moros in line" for being different, you can just as well ban all recons, cause each of them is so much out of line with any other.

I think a better nerf for the moros would be to remove a highslot rather than the drone bonus. Nerfed the ship, kept it different.
There is no 'n' in turret There is no 'r' in faction There is no 'a' in Scorpion There is no 'e' in Caldari There is no makeup in rogue drones |

The moros is the only Dread that can survive that situation. This is because of 50% per level drone bonus. The fact that the dread shold not be in that situation is invalid because a dread will get tackled eventually if the pilot has the balls to use it. With capital warfare happining on a scale never seen in eve before, this is a real consideration.
Moros was designed in the days where a Dread was originally designed as a BS killer. However, that never happened and eve is different, therefore this bonus is of no use today. Remove it and give it some turret related bonus.

Geeze what a bunch of whiners.
The Moros is NOT going to get beaten over the head with the nerfbat like the Thanatos did so long ago.
LIVE WITH THE FACT that droneships get SUPER AWESOME DRONE BONUSES. DEAL WITH IT.
They also get some guns too. Three guns are perfectly in line with the standard drone-type setup. Lots of drones, not lots of guns. Also please realize it is honestly not hard to pop 5 stupid Ogres.
Please, please, please deal with it. _________________ Burn. |

OH, OH My GOD..
Ok Without mentioning the Complete Error in logic in this statement Alone lets move on... . . . . . . Look at the Damned Triage mode, iirc It doubles Rep Ammount and Halfs Rep Cycle.
That is FOUR HUNDRED PERCENT more rep to Time
200% more rep for your cap.
The Same Tank as a Morii In siege, With WAY more fitting Left over.
and 3 hi-slots ready to rock.
Since your own smart bomb will be killing your drones... other ships in your own fleet, will be killing your drones... lets just pretend you're not using drones.. because rly you wont be..
PS triage gives you.. a) faster locking then a interceptor. b) +4 max locked targets. c) Siege mode tank. d) Siege mode EW Emmunity. e) half cycle time on remotes + double Rep ammount.(accels @ repping small OR Large Ships.)
