Today we used a new system for deploying small scale client patches. As some of you have noticed, there was an issue that testing failed to uncover on the test servers; the file does not download correctly. The patch itself was designed to fix an issue with the keyboard not working on the login screen.
Due to these issues, we will be removing the patch during downtime tomorrow, 18 January. Having the new file will not affect your install once the fix is removed, and you will still be able to log in normally.
To manually patch:
Please note that these are default locations for English Windows installs only. The programmers are currently working on a tool to resolve this problem for those people with non-default/non-English installs. Download the file here.
You will then need to create the following directory, and place the file in that directory. As before, these are default directories, so if you have a custom install this is unlikely to work.
Win XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\CCP\EVE\dd7d3d04d133729bde20677ec76f5d63
Vista C:\ProgramData\CCP\EVE\dd7d3d04d133729bde20677ec76f5d63
Linux /home//.cedega/EVE Online/c_drive/Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/CCP/EVE/dd7d3d04d133729bde20677ec76f5d63
Mac /Users//Library/Preferences/Eve Online Preferences/p_drive/All Users/Application Data/CCP/EVE/dd7d3d04d133729bde20677ec76f5d63
We apologize for the inconvenience this patch may have caused you, and we wish to assure everyone that we're working hard to resolve these issues.

Is there any way to get my client to stop restarting and installing the patch each time I log in a new char? This is wierd... ---

The real question that needs to be answered is why was there no annoucement before this patch occured?
There are vital steps that we the player base needs to take when a patch is about to be deployed. Sadly we were not given that chance. Long skills werent set, backup of eve sys files were not done, extra rations of booze were not stocked.
Once again as seems to be the common case these recently, CCP thought of their current customer base last.

Does this mean that if we are using Win2k we are going to have to wait until tomorrow to log in?
Or will those programmers have their fix done - and debugged - sooner than that?
I have attempted to use the XP version listed above but - it does not work with Windows 2K.

Some sort of solution for the win 2k users that can¦t get the manual patching to work would be neat _______________________________________________

Accidents happen, we all know it. However, Im running on a norwegian version of win2k OS, and none of your manual fixes applies to win2k. Could you please help us win2k users out?

Well, I needed to study for a test tomorrow anyway....and since it looks like I cant log this character in until tomorrow, I no longer have any excuse. *grumble*
I'm suddenly very glad I decided to train a 26 hour skill before DT started rather than a 5 hour skill.

This is great but I expect most people stopped using the standard install locations after the boot.ini screw up. You have dropped the ball again and so soon after the last time you screwed up.
Reading the forums since this came up don't you get the impression that people don't want this system, they like the download a file and install it that they had up until now. At least then you have an idea of what is going on.
Are you now advising your customers that can't get this working to no longer play the game until your programmers fix what they broke or just wait until tomorrows downtime ?

Good that the 'autopatch' will be removed!
Why? Because the ability to decline a patch is essential! If for example a patch is bugged (boot.ini, anyone?) then people surely NOT want to install that patch and therefore they need to be able to cancel the installation and wait until things are resolved.
The idea might be appealing to quickly and on-the-fly install patches without needing a 'big' patch but from experience these so called 'quick' patches causes lots of more work in the long run. I hope CCP will think about this.

one problem seems to be that win2k uses some sort of different hash. so its looking for
...\CCP\EVE\6d870f9991fec176dd7d4c8723fcee66\compiled.code rather then the stated ...\CCP\EVE\dd7d3d04d133729bde20677ec76f5d63\compiled.code
that however seems to be only part of the problem as fixing this doesnt resolve the issue. hope it helps however.

Do you expect that whining and just stirring up emotions with statements like "Do you advice your players not to play the game untill your programmers can fix it" (I mean, cmon, we CANT play the game no matter what CCP advices us to do) will do any good?
They already said they are working on it, they have provided a short description of what the patch was meant to do (fixing the keyboard error), and how they are working to solve it. Now, I WOULD whine if they did nothing, or gave the impression of doing nothing, but they ARE communicating, so let them work. And keep your emo at home.

I did read exactly what he said, and it is a screw up on their part that deserves a bit of *****ing. Why do I think it deserves some *****ing, because in the last few months these sort of silly little errors have become more the norm than the exception. It is a scary trend, a trend I would like to see stopped. Hopefully my *****ing and others *****ing will get CCP to sit up, take notice and change whatever it is in their internal structure that allows these silly little goofs to slip through.
I hope that is good enough reason for you Bobbism, because that is the one I am sticking with. --

Why after 3 hours of the problem is there still NO announcement on the servers MOTD or the Players News Center informing people of this patch? This forum announcement is the only news about the issue, and most people don't read the forum. As a result many will bother your already very hardworking GM staff with questions about the stealth patch that was initiated, even if they don't have a problem with it.

The most obvious part of the forums to stick this thread would be the "known issues and workarounds", which is where I first looked. I also checked the news section to no avail.

*****ing does you no good. All it does is **** of the other person who is getting *****ed at. So the point I am trying to make is insteed of whining like a little child, grow up go have a life outside the game for a day (OMG SHOCKER) and then come back the next day. **** happens in game and in real life. Sitting around whining and stopping your feet won't help it any more.

I am a bit disapointed.
I have multiply EvE Installs on my PC and I manual Patching for about half of a year or so because the Autopatcher fails to work for me.
So I like to know when a Patch is comming to set on long Skills and get the Patch(also if something goes wrong after the Patch). Im not affected by this one since I have long Skills on my Chars running(switched one 15 Minutes before DT lucky me) but I bet other People are like me unalble to log in and switching or doing something other in the Game because they are unalbe to patch. Personaly I have no problems myself to take a day off, since everything is set and nothing is require me ingame today but I gess others will have problems with this.
Please anounce any form of patching to give players the chance to prepere herself for this(Skillwise and other reasons ingame).
