I always rename my ships because if you are in a war, and someone scans for you, they will find "Shogun Archers Thorax". Depending on if you want to be found or not...

I have a similar problem, I name my battleship after my girlfriend, then when we split, I always lose it in some freak accident or lag or desync.

I do name them. Not always tho..
Some are very good some others are not-so-good. I generally suck at naming stuffs.
My Armageddon is named "Law of Talisman"
My Coercer is named "Wreckin' Gunman'
My Omen is named "Nemo" <-- clever, heh?
I also have a zippy Sigil hauler outfitted with nanos and a MWD named "Haula Type-R"

I name all my ships after ships from the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic War. So i currently have ships called Orion, Agammemnon, Temeraire, Vigilant.

I like for my primary front line ship to have a serious name.
My Drake, therefore, is Glaurung. I wonder if there's a ship registry anywhere, because I can't imagine I'm the first to name his Drake for the Father of All Dragons.
As my ships of the line fall into disuse, they're generally renamed to something more cheeky, but no less apt.

Myrms have something to do with empathy, two I have now are Sullen Empathy and Forlorn Empathy
Haven't decided on a naming convention for the brutix, but one I have now is called Ending Overture. I want to use Overture for something bigger, like a mega or something.
Thoraxs are Broken Sympathy and Dull Sympathy.
Salvaging catalyst is "The Janitor" :D
Search up 'List of Culture ships' on wikipedia, goes to the names of all the spaceships from Iain Bank's Culture series.

I use a ship name generator. Or a pirate ship name generator. I like 15th century names on my modern spaceships. I won't give you the link because it would be advertising. :)
