It's important to name your ships for security reasons, as well. If you rename your ship, scan probes only show the name of the ship, not your name. Not a lot of situations where this is HORRIBLY important, but there are some. ________________

For Example: Crow - Apollo Raven - Thor And so on. Usualy I try to find the ancient god that kinda fits the ship.

Seemingly generic (although the name does have a history) boy's names for Caldari ships, girl's names after people I know for Gallente. I don't know how it all started, but now I can't break the tradition. (in case you're wondering, I don't even have frigate skills for Amarr or Minmatar, so I don't know what I would call them). Named a Megathron Jenny once. It wasn't very good, or maybe I just wasn't very good with her . She popped within days, RL Jenny would probably have punched me if she'd known about it. Reincarnated her in a navy mega (since the original design was pretty sound) that's still with me after almost a year. Now I'm up to Jenny Mk III in my Kronos. As a rule, ship names are final so I can only allow myself to change them once. I'm basically a carebear mission runner btw, so I generally expect to keep most of my ships for a good while. For the ones I don't expect to keep (for whatever reason ) I just assign the first letter of the ship type, a dash and a six digit hex code again based on the ship name plus the current date and time (hashed). So had I named my Kronos right now by that standard it would've been called K-DF4B2E. Not very fitting for her though. Mad Hermit corporation Minding our own business since 2004

My Abaddon was the second PWN MUFFIN DOS, my new hac is called PWN MUFFIN MINI. Anyway most of my ships are called something along those lines.

Myxx Gallente Daughters Of Venus	Posted - 2008.01.26 04:56:00 - [15] my ship names generally refer to good friends of mine either from other mmos or otherwise as a rule of thumb, mostly. sometimes there are exceptions for example, my first ever frigate was named Raessa after a friend of mine from another mmo my first cruiser was named Antross, again, after a friend of mine from another mmo my first BC was Antross II after the same person my first BS was/is named Suzu Elas, again after another friend of mine from another mmo my second cruiser ever was different, named it Azra'dite, a play on aphrodite, the greek goddess my haulers however are an exception and get different names.. for example, my iteron four is named Nosediver, because the front of it faintly resembles a flattened nose my iteron three is named ITS A SNAKE after the eve version of weebles stuff "badger badger badger" my retriever is named Fallen Angel, because with the old graphics, it looked golden and just fit at the time. but yes, I rename my ships.

My current line of PvP ships all have something to do with Rabite's and Whips. Drake: Rabite's Flail Thorax: Rabite's Lash Ferox: Rabite's Whip (this one is so much scattered debris) Otherwise I tend to use the corp ticker and a semi appropriate name. I have an ECM ship named LOSER Frazzler, a Charon named LOSER Freighter, and had a thorax named the LOSER Cruiser. For a bit, I was using hull numbers as I produce most of my own ships. My first ships I really made an effort to name were my three Rokhs, Fury's Form, Fury's Flight, and Fury's Fall. They're all dead. ----------------- What? I just work here.

I have a similar problem, I name my battleship after my girlfriend, then when we split, I always lose it in some freak accident or lag or desync. I want to use Overture for something bigger, like a mega or something. Thoraxs are Broken Sympathy and Dull Sympathy. Salvaging catalyst is "The Janitor" :D Search up 'List of Culture ships' on wikipedia, goes to the names of all the spaceships from Iain Bank's Culture series.

I had names like: My Lil' Mojito Retribution's Blade Confluent Fury Whiskey Tango Fox McNubin Chronic Slowass Quebec Trebek Teknicolor Dreamcoat etc,etc,etc. But when it came time to jump into a ship with a different fit or whatnot, i'd end up forgetting what mods were on it. (I have about 35-40 ships, so keeping track gets difficult) So I started to apply some sort of logic to my ship names. Fleet 1 [CRD-MPSw] would be a name for one. the letters in the brackets all stand for something. CR = close range D = DPS M = MWD P = Point (warp scram/disrupt) Sw = Stasis webber Right off the bat, i'd know around abouts what setup i'd be jumping into. Also, Fleet 2 [MRT-MPTp] would signify MR = medium range T = tank Tp = target painter You get the idea. Helps when you're in a rush

I guess many people are too lazy/in too much of a hurry to check if that person is somewhere on local. In quiet systems it's quite obvious that someone is using a fake name. They still need to find out who it is. And the scanning person might just believe it's yet another one of those plentiful POS parked ships.
