Those improvements sound useful, to one degree or another.
Now, on to serious matters...
Can someone fix http://myeve.eve-online.com/mb/news.asp so the Dev Blog link DOESN'T force my computer to open my browser app (Firefox, in my case) and send me to http://myeve.eve-online.com/devblog.asp (via the shellexec: in the link)?
It's not very nice to those players whose computers have a hard time switching between full-screen EVE and other apps. Plus, you're taking away our ability to read blogs while flying, etc. I LIKE being able to read news or blogs at warp. I DON'T LIKE not being told that you've changed things so that you're making my computer open other applications without any sort of warning.
The location the link USED to point to (http://myeve.eve-online.com/mb/devblog.asp) still exists and is updated, so this looks like either a simple mistake, or somebody decided to change the way the page links are handled without notifying us. Either way, it's been like this a couple days now, and should be the easiest thing in the world to fix.
Thank you.

Are there plans to include a timer showing your aggression status? So if you get agressed by a war disrupt bubble or a smartbomb or something you can actually see it?

While you are at it, can you make a way so that we can target using a single click withough having to right click, select the target on the overview?
And shouldn't this thread be stickied?

Will it be possible to remove drone brackets, and will this have any affect on grid load times or will it still be waiting to download all of the information (including brackets you aren't interested in) from the server before rendering anything on the grid?

Excellent, simply excellent. Anyone who fleets regularly will know this is one of the simplest and best updates in a long time. Thanks

Please DO make everything exportable or store setting server side. It's really annoying if you have a corrupt personal eve folder and you need to reconfigure your overview.

Well the client still needs information about various stuff as for the stuff that manages brackets then its not getting any updates on stuff its not interested in. There were really two ways to do this, this way where we just throw the brackets we're not interested in or keep everything and just hide the ones we're not interested in. There are pros and cons with both ways.
Biggest benefit of not keeping any information about brackets we're not interested in can actually boost fps (up to over 20% in cases where there are lots of items in your vicinity and you're zoomed out a bit so you have lighter version of the models. Biggest drawback however is that when you load all the brackets back you get a little lag spike that can vary from part of a second up to 2-3 depending on number brackets that need to be added and hardware.
Of course since it can take a while to add the brackets we can't have <alt> showing all brackets like before so we changed it so that <alt>-z toggles [show all brackets]. You however can bind it to what combination you think is fitting. _______________ |

Nice changes, but are you also getting rid of the white lines that go from top to bottom and left to right? I think these lines are a distraction that get in the way of the important things on the HUD. Thanks

Tuxford, while you are messing with overview, could you make it freeze while the "crtl" key is pressed so that we do not target something we do not want or end up warping to a station instead of a gate cause someone just entered your grid? pleeeeeeeeeease!!!!

The EWAR notifications are really good stuff, but is it going to include the bubble notification?
That would be really good going through gatecamps so one could see when it is possible to go to warp. Currently in gatecamps everything goes so fast and if you have the tactic overlay even turned on you don't spot those bobbles too easily.

Great work, this will be really useful.
On the topic of overviews and filters, would it be possible to have a mode for setting filters that would let you use logical expressions? A mode that can be toggled on or off depending who wants to use it.
I ask this because the logic that the filter and overview switches work on seems, well, illogical at times . You enter settings expecting them to act in an AND fashion and you get something like a NOT(OR) list or vice versa. It would also allow more flexibility in the settings. You could have something like
Stargate OR ((Battleship OR Battlecruiser) AND Wartarget) or NOT(Friend) OR (Neutral AND NOT(Noobcorp))
as the display condition.

Please make this extremely high priority.
I run eve on 4 different computers depending on where I am (work, girlfriend, my laptop, my pc) and with multiple characters. After the 3rd time an eve patch decided to screw all my settings I just gave up and now I reconfigure it dynamically as I need to.

Great improvement, but please make the bracket filters also available to the default-tab. Even better would be if we could configure the bracket filter directly.

i realy like the tab thing and being able to see the ewar thingy. and the option of filtering out all the bloody wrecks (not only on overview but also on screen) sounds realy great.
but i wouldnt put ships on there:S, i just smell the bugs coming. 1 error and no ship will show up on your screen but they are there and firing on you. (just like the little bug of some ships no showing up on overview after some small "bugfix")

Sometimes bugs are created and we don't notice them. Yeah I know it sounds unbelievable but sometimes **** happens and things break down but we shouldn't let worst case scenario speculation about what could happen stand in the way of progress. You know of that risk, QA knows of that risk and I know of that risk. That should be sufficient to thwart that bug if it really comes up. _______________ |

About the brackets: would it be possible to filter the wrecks by size? Like keeping only medium and large wrecks shown, for instance? ------------------------------------------

Good idea. At least some possibility to filter in, filter out or 'unaffected'. The current on/off toggle doesn't work very well when it comes to filtering several options at ones. For example when filtering by standings and sec status at once there are several possible options and you currently have to experiment on your own to get to know how it actually works.
Ex: If I only activate "Pilot has security status below -5" and "Pilot has horrible standing", everything else turned off, what will I see? Now there are two alternatives:
- I see pilots that have security status below -5 AND horrible standing
- I see pilots that have security status below -5 OR horrible standing

Since you're working on it, I'd also like to have a way to reduce my overview depending on distance. In fleet battles it would be handy if I could limit my overview to targets near me, for example 10km. Especially if this reduces perceived lag.

Edited by: Hugh Ruka on 07/02/2008 10:10:07 greaaat dev blog, finaly somebody with the right ideas !!! this should have been implemented years ago.
but a few nitpicks:
1. Cap ewar notifications by sensor capabilities. What I mean: if you cannot target the ewar user - no notification. See when I jam a frigate/cruiser with max 60KM targeting range from 100km, he should not be able to see I am jamming him. same with damps, TDs etc.
2. Make ALL overview settings local to selected profile. Currently overview columns are global IIRC, so no matter what profile selected, you have still the same columns.
3. As was said, freeze overview when CTRL pressed, PLEASE.
4. Sub type categories, i.e. small, medium, large wrecks ???
5. New ship type icons ? I hate to see haulers, freighters and barges having the same icon in space, same goes for destroyers and cruisers. The ship class/type should be visible on first look.
over an out
