Tweak a bit more and don't go for CCC's only but for 2xCCC T2's and 1xCore Defence Capacitor Sageguard. |

any reason nobody fits passive?
Its base is 3.7/s and the drake is 3.9/s, pretty close, which indicates a nice passive tanking ability -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Because the power of a passive recharge tank comes from Shield Power Relays, which gimp your cap recharge. Gimped cap recharge + lasers = yuck

I fly a passive (- the hardeners)....surprised everyone uses active tbh. Lvl 5/complex have neut's so I don't want to be up the creek when one of them hits me and im warp disrupted. Like cap flux, shield flux is perhaps a viable trade off, or I equip 2x complex class nos's and don't bother with overheating. Thinking this would work fine - havn't got all the mod's to try this out yet. Atm its a ratting machine :D

The more I look at this, the more fun I think it could be. It's just a bugger to get even remotely cap stable though.

2x faction cap power relays 3x faction heat sinks ( or better if you got isk )
1x dg/cn x-large booster ( or a officer/deadspace one like pith x/a/b type and estamel/vepas ) 2x dg/cn invul's ( or better if you got isk ) 1x dg/cn shield boost amp ( or better if you got isk ) 3x cap recharger II
3x tachyonII 1x faction tachyon 2x auto targeting system II ( not active just so I can lock 12 targets :p )
1x ccc2 2x ccc
crystal set ( or lg if your cheap ) slot7: G2-beta (5% reduction in all turret cap need) slot8: CC8 ( +5% capacitor capacity ) slot9: CX-2 ( +5% turret damage ) slot10: G2-Epsilon ( 5% large energy turret damage )
Does about 1150 dps and tanks 1300 overall, versus guristas about 1400 versus sansha's about 1k and versus angels around 1900. I got 3 t2 guns and 1 faction because I want a 100% cap stable ship.
If you overheat everything ( wont last for longer then 2 minutes though ;p ) it does 1.3k dps and tanks around 2k dps overall.

Good luck using some of those setups, nearly all of them are suicide gank bait, specially with the cost of the ship alone, a few expensive mods = death in high sec.

Sure, its risky but its a risk shared by all faction fitted ships. Even if you setup the Nightmare with t2 "only" its still one of the best ships for PvE out there.
Best thing to invest in once you get a Nightmare is a full Crystal set. No extra risk compared to fitting faction mods and makes your tank much better. After that the only way to improve significantly is by faction mods which as Fedor pointed out increases the risk of getting suicide ganked.

Originally by: Morrow Disca It seems that since TrinityÆs release the Nightmare has been turned into a Marauder, minus the ECM gimpage. So IÆve bought one for use as a mission boat and was wondering what suggestions you've all got for setups?
Atm mine is as follows
Highs 4x Amarr Navy Mega Pulse Lasers (Not T2 skilled yet)
Meds Cap Regen II X-large Shield Booster II Shield Boster Amp II 4x Mission Specific Hardner II's
Lows 5x Cap Flux Coil II's
Drones 5x Med II's, 5x Light II's
Rigs 3x CCC
if you don't fit 3 hs on such a ship (nightmare or paladin), you would be better of with a normal amarr bs, imo.

This is my plan at the moment, even with the CPR's it will have a better tank than my abaddon (acording to eft). I realy wish I could test this out on the test server so that I can be sure before getting it on live, while eft is a great tool I dont fully trust it with something this expencive

I will jump into this ship myself in abit and here is my idea so far:
4 x Amarr Navy Tachyon Beam Laser
1 x Large Shield Booster (whatever i can get a hold of first) 3 x Hardener (whatever i can get a hold of first) 1 x Shadow Serpentis Tracking Computer 2 x Cap Recharger II
3 x True Sansha Heat Sink 2 x True Sansha Power Diagnostic System
1 x Capacitor Control Circuit I 2 x Energy Locus Coordinator I
With this setup I would get 44km range with Multi's (51km range with the Optimal Script)
I am aware that the tank kind of sux, but it's not like it will be needed with a ship that can gank at any range it wants on missions?
Idea's and suggestions? Somebody set up us the bomb |

My current fitting:
Highs:
4 x True Sansha Mega Beam Laser & Amarr Crystals
Mids:
1 x CN X-Large Shield Booster 2 x CN Shield Boost Amplifier 2 x Faction Specific Hardeners 2 x Cap Recharger II
Lows:
1 x DCU II 3 x Heat Sink II 1 x Tracking Enhancer II
No rigs.
- obviously, I've stressed "current" where written above as it clearly needs some more work. I only started flying it today, and it worked quite nicely in Pirate Invasion L4 v.s. Sansha, as long as I managed my group aggression carefully I burnt through it fairly fast and noticeably faster than with my CNR.
On the to do list is (generally) replacing all the T2 gear for faction (where possible) and doing something productive with those last two high slots. Maybe a faction Nos and a drone range extender. I'd also like to upgrade the Mega Beam set for TS Tachyon Beam at some point.
I'm also looking at losing a Cap Recharger II for something else. I'm tossing up between another Hardener or even a Heavy Capacitor Booster. I'm also weighing up dropping a CN SBA for the same as I do have a clone with a full set of low-grade Crystals ... somewhere!
I'm undecided about _-Type X-Large Shield Boosters. They're a lot of money to drop, even on this and for now my CN is still workable.
As for the DCU II, I would love to lose it in favor of another tracking enhancer, or anything really, but I can't help but feel I'd be tempting fate - a friend laughed at me having one on my CNR and the very next day I got taken into low structure when my connection went all pear shaped on me.
I'd hate to be in the same situation with my Nightmare, without it.
And finally, rigs: I'm still tossing up between the +15% cap recharge (CCC, right?) and the +15% cap capacity.

Actually mine tanks fine with just a Pith B Large. Of course I only do the correctÖ missions with it and the others with a Golem (that also tanks fine with that same Pith B Large though, even EA 5).
Make suicide ganking more difficult!

4 x Megapulse II (Scorch + Navy crystals) Drone link Tractorbeam
Thon's modified Large SB Kaikka's Boost Amp 4x Hardeners Heavy Cap Booster II
3x Navy Heatsink Suitcase II Tracking Enhancer II
2 x CCC, 1 x Energy Locus
Just finished Angel Extravaganza is this including the bonus room. Time to complete was a little faster than using CNR. Had to warpout immediately in bonus room since I forgot my damn Valkyries in the last pocket (brackets are a boon but have cost me more drones than I care to admit)
Thinking of switching back to Tachyons but the pulses track the close cruisers saving me time overall.

Does it really make any difference you don't perma run either and XL is nice for tanking initial dps you sometimes get. Also I'm running locater agents on you right now.

Never had an issue with not being able to track cruisers, tachs track like megapulse with good skills and as long as you start shooting the small stuff first you should never have issues.

Was playing in EFT for when mine arrives.
Highs 4 Amarr Navy Tachyon/Tachyon Modulated Energy Beam with faction Crystals 2 Heavy Named Nosferatu or 2 Drone Link Augmentors
Mids 3 Cap Recharger II 1 Invulernability Field II 1 Heat Dissipation Field II 1 Ballistic Deflection Field II 1 X-Large Shield Booster II
Lows 3 Amarr Navy Heatsink 2 Power Diagnostic Unit II
Rigs 3 Capacitor Control Circuit 1
Capacitor Power Relays gimp the shield booster and as I never need to perma tank for longer than three minutes I think they are more welcome. Plus with the three heatsinks I have even less reason to need more of a tank, this thing hurts.
Mids, the idea of a Capacitor Booster to free up the space for a Tracking Computer and an AB sounds good, but sometimes I get a funny connection and the extra cap' regen might save my ass. I fight a lot of Kin/Therm heavy NPCs so I went for the specific hardeners.
Two named Heavy Nosferatu are there for overloading, though i'm not actually sure what is best for this, as well as how long I could actually overload my guns for. Any ideas?
I know this is a cheap setup for such a beast of a ship, but I would rather enjoy flying the ship more than worrying if someone is going to suicide it. Of course if no one is around...

no need to put faction or officer stuff on a nightmare t2 all the way.
4 t2 tachs 1 tractor 1 drone link or 1 nos ( i use nos as it helps kill small ships !!)
1 t2 xl booster 2 t2 hield boost amps 3 t2 inv fields
cap flux in lows / switch these for t2 heat sinks as your skills permit for perma tanking
3 ccc rigs
easy fit no uicide ganks as its all cheap gear abd murders missions at a far better rate than anything else. |
