Got a mission complete, but I need a unit of reports or something. Anyway I can somehow magically complete this mission? Or am I screwed.

Your options are:
1)Buy the item off market/contracts. you might get lucky.
2) Run the same mission for the L2/3 equivilent to get the item and fail that mission to get a lower hit.
3) fail the mission. The can wont reappear after maintenance since you completed the mission unfortunately.

Ask your Corp/alliance if they have one, you'll be amazed at all the mission junk that people have. Other option is post up in local asking for one.

Just wait for DT and the mission will respawn including the mission item.

Missions do not respawn if they're tagged as "Objective completed" in your journal, which it will be if the mission loot had dropped. |

Could a GM not assist in this?
I filed a petition when I didn't have a certificate that I needed to hand in to my newbie trainer (game crashed during the tutorial and I missed part of it).
As it's not a high value item I don't suppose it would be a huge issue for them to just spawn it in your cargohold...

I wouldn't admit to it being your fault.
Petition it that the can didnt appear
GM will say 'our logs show nothing' and restart the mission for you.

You can get reports from market. Fortunately it was not unique item (like special delivery or damsel) as I understand.
