I just installed the new patch and after a reboot I'm not able to log on.
On the login screen, where it usually says the number of players, it just says Incompatible (protocol).
After putting in a username and password and pressing Enter, I get a pop up dialog box saying the same thing, Incompatible (protocol).
Suggestions? First time I've had issue with the client since installing it about a month ago.

I've got the same too - I think we're just a bit early going for the patch. Hopefully devs will spot this and repatch - and hopefully this won;t dump us in a full client reload situation.. |

After I downloaded the patch (automatically), it said I needed to reboot my computer, so I clicked the button that said to do so. My computer did not restart, so I started EVE. At this point I got the error windows saying a pile of files were incompatable. At this point I restarted my computer. Now when I try to start the game, it just closes instantly.

Its the box thingy that changes once every 100 years. Or to be more precise, tells us there is an issue with eve two hours after the forums have exploded and figured out there is an issue ourselfs.

If you didn't changed something: Thats what I did on my linux Client to move from incompatible protocol to the message: player connections aren't accepted currently (its all in german here so its no one-to-one quote):
I moved to my EVE Online/c_drive/Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/CCP/EVE/dd7d3d04d133729bde20677ec76f5d63

mv compiled.code XY

Go to your whatever so called home folder and find "Application Data\CCP\EVE\[whatever here some hex string]"
and rename "compiled.code" into "anything-but-not-compiled.code" and try to restart again. Actually linux "mv" command is the same as windows rename file click-around-or-press-f2 thingy

Same here, and server status shows 6440 people online as I type this. Don't understand how it's working for some people but not the vast majority (I'm assuming the majority of us are affected as that is a small number compared to usual). MOTD now appears to think nothing is wrong. Can we have some kind of update on this to acknowledge there is till an ongoing issue please?

Go to your whatever so called home folder and find "Application Data\CCP\EVE\[whatever here some hex string]"
and rename "compiled.code" into "anything-but-not-compiled.code" and try to restart again.
Since your so ignorant and don't listen. Even if you rename the file. you get this Error.
"You EVE client installation may have been modified, damaged, or corrupt files. Please Re-install the game client file C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\script\compiled.code not found."
it does work, however theres 2 versions of compiled.code , youre doing thr wrong one
put that one back, search for the other one and change that
Thank god, ok.. I'm really going to have to Efin somehow get hidden "hidden" files to show up even though my hidden files do show.. stupid -=-=-=-

You shouldat least try renaming the compiled.code file. The one I renamed was found in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users|Application Data\CCP\EVE\[long hex name] not in a scripts folder. However, I also did not have any other copies elsewhere. If you have had other installations of eve it may be affecting this.. If you go ahead and rename use a standard convention for renamind like .old instead of deleting it or renaming oddly. Do it from the search window and leave the window open then you can always undo what you did. I'm up and running and the client did not create a new copy of the file (did another search to confirm this). Give it a go unless u already have and it's not worked for you. |

For Vista Users:
Its C:\ProgramData\CCP\EVE\dd7d3d04d133729bde20677ec76f5d63\compiled.code"
You can delete or re-name, either works. -=-=-=-

That way works. There are two versions of compiled.code. One in the game directory and one under All Users Application Data. After renaming the one in Application Data. Everything work fine.

Ok, the "compiled.code" you have to rename is not the one in the "C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\script" folder (or whatever folder you installed eve in.
The "compiled.code" you have to rename is located in "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\CCP"
It won't show up (well it didn't for me) on search for files. Also note that this "Documents and Settings" is not the one where Eve usually stores its settings. Eve usually stores its settings in the "C:\Documents and Settings\XXXXUSERNAMEXXX\Application Data\CCP".
So rename the compiled.code in the "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\CCP" subfolder and it will be fine.
Once again, CCP messes up with windows files ... maybe we should buy them a few licences ?

OK finally managed to log in.
Using Windows Vista so I'll share what I did in case it helps anyone else:
Did a search for folders named CCP. Brought up two: One in program files and one in program data. Deleted the one under program data (this is quicker than renaming, you can always rstore from recycle bin if it doesnt work).

If you didn't changed something: Thats what I did on my linux Client to move from incompatible protocol to the message: player connections aren't accepted currently (its all in german here so its no one-to-one quote):
I moved to my EVE Online/c_drive/Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/CCP/EVE/dd7d3d04d133729bde20677ec76f5d63
folder and did
mv compiled.code XY
to move the "compiled.code" file away.
This behaviour is reproducible by doing
mv XY compiled.code ---> giving Protocol Error
hehe, buy me a beer for that !
I'll buy you a beer for that, Davy. It's worked fine for me on 3 machines.
But ffs CCP - this is truly, hilariously pathetic.
