The best ship in terms of usefulness vs cost is still the blackbird in my opinion. Caracals are also great.
Interceptors are great if you need to prevent somebody from getting away, but you need firepower to back it up.
Among battleships, every ship serves a purpose. It depends on what you want to do. Tempest/Typhoon are probably best for fleet battles, Megathron might be the best gate camper(because of the massive close range damage), scorp is the best EW ship, Raven is the best 1v1 ship, and apoc is probably best all around ship becuase it can do anything pretty well even though it isn't the best in any one area(except mining where its clearly the best). Dominix and Geddon are really best left to NPC hunting and mining though.

I ask because I want a PvP ship able to do good in fleet battles yet also perform well in 1 on 1 and NPC scenarios as well.
I just purchased a Moa and I found out it's not good at PvP (although the description made it seem to be the best...).

Edited by: Arcturius II on 07/04/2004 01:06:46 In that case the Tempest is the ship for you.
*edit* not sure about the 1on1 part though. Fleet battle and NPC hunting, thumbs up.

Ya gotta figure out your style, and then go for whatever ship fits it best.
Or go for a ship first, and see if you like its style.
It's a fun process of discovery. The journey in and of itself can be fun as well.

i agree with these comments main thing to consider i think is whether you go EW, tackler (warp scram web stasis), or gunboat. All 3 roles are different but all are needed to make a good fleet. prolly best 1 vs 1 is gunboat with some warp stabs ie megathron with maybe 1 warp scram. But overall you need to find your style. Have fun with it

Actually the Moa rules at cruiser vs cruiser combat, if you have the right gear. However it is a good rule of thumb to just ignore the ship description as they are not updated with nerfs and so are rarely accurate.

My style is the "tank" of MMO's. Sorta like the warrior class for a medieval MMO.
So I guess I would want a ship with the best offensive capabilities in the game and an "in-your-face" approach.
I assume in EVE this means a ship with good firepower and defense with close up weapons, although I don't know if getting close to your enemy before you shoot is right to do in EVE. The more range the better, eh?

Well, that depends.
Most people don't like to go close because they're worried they won't be able to get away if they need to.
But then you'll be doing the most damage if you go close... a Megathron with blasters (aka the Blasterthron) is a terrifying thing up close. Definitely the most "in your face" Bship in the game.
I think the best ship for you is the Tempest, if you have enough skills for it:
- Good offensive capabilities. Can be fitted for extreme long range heavy damage dealing with 1400 Howies, or turned into a close-range gunboat with almost as much damage potential as a Blasterthron if you fit 800 Cannons and lauchers/smartbombs. - Good defensive capabilites too with it's five med slots and plenty of cap for tanking as the guns use almost none.
Some say it's the ugliest ship, I think it's just an acquired taste. Very versatile, thus good if you don't yet know what kind of approach you will prefer.
EDIT: It might be good idea to get a tier 1 Bship first, unless you're rich. Losing a fully insured tier 1 Bship isn't such a big deal (maybe 15-20m depending on the ship and the equipment), while losing a tier 2 Bship is another thing entirely.

PvP in Eve:
Paper, scissors, stone
Ship is irrelevent to a large degree. Most skilled pilots can kill each other in a variety of ships, it all comes down to modules, setup, who you fly with, and luck.

The best PvP ship is the ship you learn to use that suits your tastes and needs after being killed countless times on chaos practicing PvP. If you try to learn PvP on tranquility your mostly going to lose a lot, you need to goto test where equipment is free and start learning to fight. Once you do that you'll probably retract your "best ship" question. You'll learn what you favor and what ship is suited to each fighting situation. So, get over to chaos and start dying : )

I have 11 million ISK right now, and I can probably sell my Moa for around 6 million ISK so I have enough me thinks.
But Battleships are better then Cruisers in general for fighting?
