Quote: And it is nearly impossible to field a decent tank with this mythical 600+ dps gank fit in the first place.
Lolz etc. again. Armour-tanking BCs have to choose between tank and gank, Sure, a Harby can get ~750 DPS etc, but it doesn't have much tank left after that. Not so the Drake... even with full tackle fitted.
BTW, if there's one ship in EVE that I know how to fly, it's the Drake.

Considering the Drake is generally regarded a noob ship, that doesn't say much.
--- This is a war declaration, issued from your alt corp. It is used to gank people in high sec. |

I would say that it means quite the opposite, actually.

Edited by: Jorbatz Kalidrome on 08/03/2008 13:40:36 Also, there's one thing that I doupt has arised in this discussion (my mom makes better food that yours! - type discussion).
There's *always* the question about style.
Never *ever* underestimate the power of style.
I, for example, know that firing missiles would score more hits than I get from my turrets , it takes ages to get into the optimal range and a split second to move away from it.
But the sound... The thunder of high-caliber projectile weapons spitting death at stounding velocities...
It is intoxicating.
Certainly much better than missile "swoosh" (mega-booooring!), laser "spit" (nber-boring) or even railgun (can't remember what they sounded like) firing sounds.
There are moments when turrets are better, and there are moments where missiles / rockets rock totally. I prefer turrets, but I certainly do not engage hostile ships with something that hits 'em when they come too close for my 425mm turrets to react to their movement.
EDIT: typos, typos...

Originally by: Elhina Novae lmao. I use Turrets and they own Missiles most of the time imo.
Your arguments meens NOTHING since you only takes upsides of one side. Next time please do ups and downs about the 2 sides of a discussion ok?
I use turrets also, as I stated before. Since this is essentially a debate on the relative merits of missiles versus turrets started by a player with a genuine curiosity on the opinion of other players, I chose one side of the debate and attempted to point out what I feel are some of the inequities between missiles and turrets. I know of no rules of logic or debate that would require me to argue both sides of the issue, though that might prove entertaining.
If you would like to see a list of upsides of missile boats versus turret ships, I suggest you try writing one and posting it here to inform the debate. You may find it more difficult to compile than you appear to expect.

The big mistake ccp imo made was to introduce ships which use missiles as their primary weapon. = caldari. Now in order to balance the game eg. ravens with other battleships, we got this f.uck.ed up missile system we all seem to love so much.
Honestly, missiles should be a tactical weapon which they totally fail to be in eve. That what we call missiles should actually be renamed to some sort of "hyper duper always fit a mwd or I gank you weapon"

When I started the post I didn't realise that there would be so many different thoughts about it. I still don't think that I am either way on the issue. I really like my Harbringer, but I am starting to work on getting a TechII cruiser so I can really see if I like missiles or not.
Most of my Corp uses Missiles and we mainly run PvE missions and they do really well. So, coming from my limited experience I wanted to know if I was missing something in my perception. (apparently I was).
I can't speak for PvP because, as of date, I have only had one PvP experience and it was over before it began. I warped in with my Harby and unloaded with my turrets. Beautiful.. Can stealer explosion. :)
For those Missile users, any advice for HAM's? Since that is what my techII cruiser uses?

Since you're a laser user, think of HAM's as pulse lasers that can change damage types. But can't fit longer range crystals, until you get t2 launchers for javelin . . . your range will be very limited until you get the support skills up (missile velocity and flight time) and possibly a rig or two as well.
If you're pve'ing with corp mates, and they are using caldari ships, targets are still gonna be blowing up before you manage to get into range. (I think I had a range of something like 15km when I first hopped into a sac . . . skills help that a lot though. <grin>)

I've started to use Turrets because Missiles have started to bore me. Spamming Scourges from Drake at 60km at rats who can't do **** on me...whoosh...whoosh...yawn.
Got myself a Moa for the fact its barely out there and I have ten times more fun running missions, actually having the rats trying to have a bite at me and 4 Medium Hybrid turrets sound so much cooler then a Missile spamming Drake.
Can't wait till I can use Tracking Computers so I can throw a few on my Mining Rokh and have fun with 8 Turrets and a nasty tank ------------------------
Mining over 4000m3 per cycle...with a Rokh |
